When you spend 4 hours to get the first challenge with the least ammount of used portals, and actually use less then the physically possible way.

Yeah that's right. Took me 4 hours straight but I got it using 3 portals.

What was that portal on the wall for though? You have 2 portals in the first room, but how do you get to them to be able to use the third portal?

*confusion*.

EDIT: Ah I know what it's for now. Nevermind.
 
There's a camera on the wall there. Had to use an extra portal to get it off. That was my last chance to get up onto the last platform. Just jump on it enough while you spam the use-key on it, and it'll boost you up there eventually.
 
...Less than physically possible?

ALERTING THE INTERNETS:

I am the first person IN THE WORLD to complete the Test Chamber 17 challenge in ZERO portals.
That's right, I did the impossible. The least number VALVe ever put as a high score was 2 (Gold on this challenge is 2 portals).
In fact, VALVe so didn't prepare for it, that in the scorer at the end, the number 0 doesn't show up!

I did the one you did in 4 hours in about an hour or less.
and rofl at the 0 portals, tried bouncing that ball there but it got boring,got the achievement anyway.

I only raised the first platform because I was thinking of a way to do it in 0 and got bored. Used the block to bounce the plasma ball at 90 degrees.

Other than that, I didn't do the other puzzles on that map.
 
Brick, was that for 14? If so, how'd you do it? I've been trying for the past half hour. My best is 13 secs.
 
I have no idea how you people are doing this.

EDIT: ooh, it's dawning. NO portals is ridiculous though.
 
I would, but demos work like crap, so I would have to do it with fraps while I'm playing. What do you want to see. Chamber 14? Coming up.


edit: Ok got it in 7 seconds with fraps running (that made it even harder than it already was). It's the same when I got it in 6 seconds, but the ending was smoother, I just flew towards the door instead of against the wall etc.. Youtube is processing it.. few mins.
 
In the meantime, I finished all the Advanced Chambers. Vanilla Crazy Cake ftw!

omg, you're using exactly the same method as I tried, except lag and me being shit at aiming make it extremely frustrating. :p
 
I'd record chamber 13 using only 2 portals, but the first time took me almost 5 hours, so I dunno.

Anything else you want to see?

God damn man, I just finished the game and I feel dizzy. The shit you pulled in that video is MADNESS!
 
Alright lol, in a VERY lucky attempt at doing chamber 13 using only 2 portals, I did it haha. I'll have to edit the video and compress it, then upload it.

I can just see Portal becoming the stunt-gamer's arena of choice. Think of all the mad skills you could pull if you were good enough...think of the custom stunt maps!

I did 14 ('androids') with only two portals, but that wasn't really difficult - just a matter of having the patience to build huge cratewalls.

Haha yeah, me too, it's quite easy. Vid of chamber13 using 2 portals is coming along, won't be too long.
 
How do you do that 0 portal thing? Run around like mad with the companion cube trying to bounce the energy balls where you need them?

It's a tad simpler than that. Let's just say... you don't really have to raise those lifts :D

Yes Pessy it's pretty easy once you know how to do it, but I did it first, so I win :E
 
Well, I've managed to get gold for least portals in all but 18... My best is 25 (silver) while gold is 16 o.O

Absolutely, I used to play Defrag, a mod for quake3, that was specifically about trickjumping. I love this, and love the challenges of it. I feel the same addictive challenge in portal. That quick run is a good example. I love doing this stuff.
 
Bah ha! I just figured it out. Gold on all least portals used. Now to tackle least footsteps...

I tried to do it for ages and I can't. Awesome skills Brick.

As for people doing it in 0 portals, I guess ya'll using the old grab and jump with the crates bug?
