I seriously want to bash someones head in. I recently got infected with a horrible piece of adware called vundo and conhook. Bitch of a virus kept popping up advertisements every minute, and the anti-spyware programs I had couldn't do shit except spot it. Firefox couldn't block the pop ups, but for some reason IE could, so I was stuck with that temporarily. Then the stupid virus messed up search engines and kept redirecting me to useless websites. I found a program called vundofix, but that didn't find anything, so I used an alternate program virtubegone and it managed to get rid of much of it by purposely blue screening and deleting shit.

Then when I restarted my computer it wouldn't start up correctly. After hours of continuously restarting I managed to get in, and all seemed fine. Until a couple hours later I started getting pop ups and my search engine kept rerouting again (thankfully the start up problem dissapeared). So I was thoroughly pissed when virtubegone didn't work. To add insult to the injury websites that helped get rid of Vundo were unable to load. So I was left a broken computer unable to download any programs from websites that would help fix the problem. I did manage to download a couple programs through mirrors that would help such as a registry back-up and a little program called combofix.

Combofix was a little scary since it could have possibly broke my computer, but it seems to have worked. I have yet to restart my computer since the virus reloads at restart if one of its files is missing. So I'm hoping I got all of them.

Anyone else have to deal with spyware like mine? This whole ordeal really makes me despise humanity.

People who make spyware have nothing better to do than sit on their asses and make things that make other people miserable. We as humans don't care about it unless it affects us. Spyware is no big deal until you get it, then you have to get rid of it immediately.

I get spyware on my laptop all the time just from doing my goddamn JOB, and I find it only a minor nuisance since I know what to do. However, there are hundreds of thousands who don't know what to do, and end up spending their valuable money on a useless fix, programs that don't work.

People market software that contains spyware and adware. Virus removing software often comes with a virus whether you download it or pay for it. It all depends on who you get it from, and most people just want it to go away, so they make the problem worse by trying to fix it.

All in all, spyware creators are lowlifes, who only serve to destroy humanity. Even Macs that run Linux, one of the safest things out there, has developed a game-breaking virus. Eventually these things will be used for terrorism in national computers.

The downfall of humanity so far has been through the internet, spawning things like 4Chan and worse. Us humans are getting dumber, and we can do nothing about it but sit and watch the generations go by. Computers are widely used by nearly every single person who can afford it, and eventually someone "evil" is going to get ahold of the technology used by keyloggers.

tl;dr, shit is bad and it's going to get worse. Much worse.

i had a trojan jan 1st and it took me about 2 weeks to get my PC back to normal. what really sucks is i lost a lot of data in the process and some items were meant for 1 PC and by installing Vista it really ****ed me over big time

Fortunately, I've never been infected with spyware/adware/viruses. But seriously, that sucks. Make a bomb, it can help relieve the stress. Just don't kill anyone and go into the country to set it off.

He'll just get another virus when googling for bomb instructions. And then he has to make two bombs.

I've only seen two viruses in the wild, both macro viruses in Word documents that floated around the computer lab when I was in college.

What antivirus package are you using?

Once I got a virus on my laptop and I figured out how to send it back to the guy without doing any real damage to my computer.

Funny how computers that make spyware don't usually have spyware protection.

Well I think I got rid of it now. Ran Malwarebytes, (The virus prevented me from running this earlier), and it picked up some Vundo Registry entries along with other minor malwares. And it successfully deleted them.

I know how you feel. My computer was infeced with a nasty trojan last summer, but I managed to remove it.

I was forced to do many of the things you had such as running Hijackthis and deleting recent system32 files. Thing is, I didn't receive any personal help. And was basically running blind. Glad I didn't screw anything up.

^Wut?

Outta intrest, do you use spybot? What Major anti-virus software do you use (ala Trend/Norton etc)?

A terrible Portal reference.

I personally used Norton for a while, but now I use something else. can't remember what it's called, haven't ran it in a while.

Yeah, i had one nasty spyware too. I tried to clean it, but it got scared and invited some cool friends like Win.32.Xdame and Trojan called Pornmaker and i had to reinstall my windows. >8(

I like how the Trojan virus multiplies like bunnies. you'll scan and there'll be Trojan.exe, then you'll scan again five minutes later and you'll have 500 of it.

Then you scan after a week and your GODDAMN COMPUTER LOCKS UP FOR THE FIFTIETH TIME ON YOU GOD DAMMIT AAAARGH

Indeed. That's basically computer malware in a nutshell

Well I'm glad I managed to get rid of it in two days. I was scared I would have to reboot windows, since I have a bajillion photos on this computer.

oh god, I got a really one awhile ago, where it kept minimizing everything I had, and wasn't allowing me too open anything up afterwards. D:

I caught a virus not too long ago that signed me up for a free e-magazine for hentai. That was about two years ago.

And I still get spam to this day. OH GAWD I HATE THE FURRIES MAKE THEM GO AWAY

oh god, I got a really BAD one awhile ago, where it kept minimizing everything I had OPEN, and wasn't allowing me too open anything up afterwards. :frown:

corrected:). I have never personally had a bad attack, but it does annoy me when I have to reinstall windows

Vundo has infected millions of people recently. There have even been some news articles about the seriousness of it. The one that's got you is most likely the same thing that infected 2 people I know and someone else who posted a thread in hardware not long ago. I read it's a slightly modified version of the Vundo that's been around for ages and it's highly sophisticated.

I managed to clean it off my girlfriend's PC, but I wasn't able to help my other friend before it corrupted their Windows install and they had to reformat.

Also@delusional: I don't mean to be a prophet of doom but I wouldn't bet on the fact that you've got rid of it yet, if you haven't even restarted to see. If it turns out you haven't, try scanning in safe mode with Malwarebytes (I've read reports on other forums about its efficacy in this situation) and Superantispyware (which is what more or less fixed my gf's comp).

Quit lying and admit that you are furry-fag. You signed yourself up and then your girlfriend/parents/whomever found out and now you're attempting to cement the story in you own mind as reality by saying it enough times.

:frown:

:cheese:

That's not true! My girlfriend's not asleep on the couch right now! Why do you ask? (SHUT UP SHUT UP DO YOU WANT HER TO FIND OUT)

But yeah, that's bullhockey nonsense.

A virus that signs you up to furry e-zines. That my friend is nonsense.

This thread should probably be quarantined in case it tries and infect the rest of us with Delusional's STD.

I haven't gotten a single trojan/spyware/virus in months. Probably because I don't ever visit any pornography sites or YouTube.
Yeah, spyware sucks balls and the makers of these unscrupulous programs should be hung by their mouse cords.

ProTip: If you ever need to visit any of these highly infected sites, use your friend's/neighbor's/school's computer.

I get the impression that myspace is pretty bad. Youtube though...?? Never heard of people getting hijacked through a Youtube page.
Format, only way out.
Rarely true.

tl;dr

Antivirus and Anti-Spyware. They are two different programs; Use both. "Safe" users shouldn't get malware often. You people are obviously doing something wrong.

I recommend avast! and Ad-Aware (I haven't tried the new one). They are the ones I have primarily used in the past. I've tried others like AVG, BitDefender (bad experience), and Windows Defender, but I've always gone back to my original favorites. NoScript for Firefox should prevent most browser installed malware, but for the extremely lazy (and stupid) this might be too much of a hassle.

I had to reformat my computer because of vundo. ****ing thing.

I've never had any problems with or because of it.

You go on YouPorn?

Dear god. I thought I'd never hear those words again. Now I have to go put on my tinfoil hat and crawl under the sheets and wait for the apocalypse.

But seriously. YouPorn? Filth. Filth filth filth.

Vortigaunts have a word for people who create malware: Dickfarts.

That sentence made my day because I have never heard anyone say "dickfarts" ever.

Dickfarts: A phrase used to describe those who fart dicks.

I have actually heard that before, but it cracks me up every time I hear it.
