What kind of gameplay/content are you hoping for?

I could imagine this episode being really eerie and weird if they do it right.

Although, I have to admit, if we come across a little shack in the snow, and there is some half frozen zombie that wakes up, as sweet as that will be, it will be a blatant rip off from the thing.

I can't imagine what kind of creatures will be in the enviroment. Maybe even a new type of combine soldier?

I want one of the soldier vortigaunt things, You know the ones with the hive hands, to have an epic battle with a ant-lion queen. I also want one of those walk-y toxic waste grabby robot things that we see in the begging of Half-life 1 to wreak some havok :D

If halo wouldn't of stold this I would of loved to have a turret on the car manned by alyx, So we both go around kicking ass.

Use gravity gun against advisor kthxbai

There also need to be stormy weather effects. Imagine having your vision obscured by a snowstorm, your pace slowed down by the snow in your feet. Imagine fighting in such a situation, your only view of the Combine soldiers their glowing goggles in the distance.

PS zombieturtle your sig is from 1984 please add an acknowledgement for the people who are wondering why it is so hauntingly familiar

I think...

There will be a new synth, because in the commentary, one of the makers said 'So we're going to use this technique in new monsters in episode 3' during the strider vs. dog battle

Alyx will get her hands on GLaDOS or the ASHPD and kill and advisor, being angry about Eli, or attempt to kill one and possibly get eaten or just stabbed in the back, eaten if the advisors know about gman, or they will attempt to and Gman appears angry and disintergrates the advisor, that would be so cool, then he explains to alyx about his 'investment'

And I think Magnusson will sort of take over Eli's spot, as scientist, but instead of being best friends with Kleiner, is always argueing etc.

I hoping to fight new types (or old HL1 types) of Xen life.

I wonder if there will be snow-esque aliens.

Episode 3 hopefuls

The EP3 ?Wish List?:

? Sniper rifle, like in the original Half-Life1. Preferably with 2 or three types of ammo, armor piercing, HEI, and hollow points.

? Laser Trip Mines, like in the original HL1. Add a couple yield settings, small for closed spaces, max for open areas. The current mines could be modified to attach to walls with the same capability, auto-detect vertical mounting produces laser trip beam, instant no delay explode.

? More secret places to find Easter Eggs and supplies, cubby holes, vents, behind lockers, etc etc.

? Alaskan Snow Borers, cousins to Ant Lions.

? Dogg could be completely immune to Advisor controls and can take them apart, the ?secret weapon?. Want to see more bloody "beating up" of the Advisors, like he did on the Strider in EP2.

? No doubt there will be a copter crash (I see this one coming), Alyx and Gordon will have to battle the final miles through harsh conditions to the Borealis. No doubt the Combine have also had discovered the Borealis data and are racing to it as well. More battles ensue. Amazing new particle weapons are found there, something like the old Gauss Gun of HL1.

? Hoping Eli has an unexpected return, patched together by the Vorts as they did Alyx in EP2.

? Alternative method, Alyx finds a recording her Dad left her in the event of his death with explanations for both Alyx and Gordon.

? The Borealis could somehow be used for the final defeat of the Combine once they get there and discover it's secrets.

? G-man will have some history and motives exposed. Maybe a "Temporal Agent" as found in the popular series "Enterprise" (Star Trek)

Thatd be so unoriginal.

Funny thing is that alyx actually died for about ten seconds :O

I'd like to see Overwatch, and maybe some new Synth.

TBH I hope no portal gun.

...new Synths.

Also:

- A Vortigaunt in a parka.

As for completely far fetched and pipe dream-ish wishes...

- No pre-rendered shadows, everything is dynamic.

- Vary the physics gibs from breakable objects like boxes. Also it be cool if metal objects could deform too - like when the adviser crushes that barrel in EP2.

- Higher resolution textures.

- More realistic ragdolls - bodies don't go flying back 20 feet when shot, it completely defies Newtons Third Law of Motion.

- Gibs - it's been done with Antlions and with TF2, I don't see why it can't be done in EP3. Who wouldn't want to blow apart some combine soldiers with a grenade or an RPG round.

Alyx gets so pissed off at the combine, that she gets bionic implants for her arms, legs, eyes and ears. She upgrades dog with rocket launchers, and laser guns and programs him to be super agressive, They both go on a combine killing spree :D

what yiou mean by synth?

in ep3 id like to see new forms of life, or other ones from HL1... i.e big momma, gargantua? possibly once at the borealis... since it is apature science... maybe not the portal gun, but perhaps a portal taht leads to the overwatch?

I doubt we'll be seeing many new synths, wasn't the whole point of Episode Two to stop them from getting here?

Maybe from the other Citadels though... what's been going on over there? Like City 14.

I imagine there will be reinforcements from 14 and other local citadels, seeing as we have pretty much destroyed most of the remaining C17 forces trying to get to White Forest.

We actually know from a bit of concept art (I think it was in PC Gamer) that we will be seeing a place with combine architecture a la another citadel or the overworld.

Episode 2 Spoilers Ahead...

(not sure how to hide Spoilers, so consider yourself warned)

I'm hoping, HOPING there will be a complete and total absence of zombies. Given that the adventure is moving toward colder climes, a place where the Combine and their headcrab-bombs have yet to tread, I cannot see how zombies would be about. Nothing against our crabby friends, but after Ravenholm, Lowlife, and those occasions in Ep 2, I've had enough. ;)

More over, I'm looking forward to seeing how Alyx deals with her depression after losing her father. Will her rage turn outward to the Combine, and if so will she use it as more a weapon or will it result in recklessness? Strong character development there. Or will it turn inward, with her blaming herself or perhaps Gordon, Barney, Kleiner and crew for not being capable of saving Eli?

And, directly related to Eli's death, I can't wait to squash the Advisors!

And with the Borealis, bring on GLaDOS. I imagine the interior of the ship being under her control, and you're yet another puppet to experiment on...

Headcrabs are the symbol of Half life itself, and i dont think we'll get rid of them in EP3, they can survive in really cold climates too, with the proof that lots of headcrabs were found in that huge fridge level in HL1

Ohhh la la, if valve uses the same gameplay mechanics from the older Borealis levels, expect many, many, many zombies.

older borealis levels? huh? we have never been in the borealis?

I'm hoping there is another big crane on the Borealis. Funny stuff.

I think...
Gordon and Alyx (and hopefully Barney if Valve have any sense) fly to the Borealis, maybe get in an awesome chase with a few gunships on the way and find that, due to the Advisors sucking out all that Eli knows, the ship is occupied by the Combine and a few Advisors. Alyx goes ape-shit and attempts to kill an Advisor to avenge her daddie. Maybe G-man comes in for one of his speeches at this point (would be awesome if he made the advisor Alyx was after explode or something to make himself useful). Then they find whatever it is that's so special about the ship and fly back to White Forest. Maybe we'll get to see Eli's funeral or something.

The rest? Well, a epic battle with the entire remaining Combine army Vs the remaining resistance plus Barney, Gordon and Alyx would be awesome. The final battle in EP2 was a bit.. dissapointing. More info on the G-man would also be good, but I doubt they'll reveal that much, because it would be a bit dissapointing as a series ender if all the loose ends were tied up.

More zombies, more headcrabs, more Xenian fauna, less combine, less antlions (preferably none)

In the new 'GMod Beta 2007', you can spawn an early prop of the borealis, the one we see in ep2, which is coloured at one end and largely blank grey at the other, which gives me sort of a perspective of what to expect the ship to be like, screenys before me would be nice

I have a speculation. I'm not so sure that Alyx is in the right state to go on the Borealis mission with you. Perhaps Barney will be your partner for a while. Not to long because much of the plot for Ep3 will likely deeply involve Alyx. Maybe just the first 20% of the game.

Thats not how the Gman works...he doesnt arbitrarily change events for no real reason...he may nudge is in the right direction to change events, but he is not an active participant...

I am pretty content with the game-play. The guns and weapons already available are fun to use, the only possible addition to the list, that would fit into this story arc and be dynamic, could be the ASHPD. The game-play is also pretty streamlined, but use of DX10 would be nice as well as perhaps increasing the quality of those textures a little. Oh and less placeholders... Don't be lazy now Valve! :p

What I mainly want to see, besides minor improvements on already developed aspects of the game is more plot revelations. I want to know how Portal ties into the HL universe, have a few new, unseen before, Xen creatures (Well we are changing climate!) and with this being the last in this particular story arc please, please, please... Tell me a little more about my favourite character, the G-Man.

Other than minor graphical tweaks, all I need would be some new wildlife and a few more revelations, I will then be content. :D

In no real order

  • As others have said, higher rez textures.
  • Dynamic shadows for the entire enviroment.
  • No more antlions. Period.
  • No more or atleast fewer zombies.
  • Barney back in some context.
  • An insane speech from a Borealis bound copy of GLADOS.
  • A dock or coast based section. (i don't know why but i just enjoy these)
  • Another reference or two to Halflife 1.
  • NO MORE ANTLIONS.
  • New foes, be it xen wildlife, combine synths or even seaguls.
  • Developer c- ommmentary (hopefully this is a given).
  • To be able to see an interesting area out of the helicopter window and go down to explore, no chance of this though.

-GLaDOS
-Quiet, reserved Alyx at the beginning leading to an angry, vengeful climax as you near the advisors- and not "I HATE THEM" as seen with the hunters as much as "DIE YOU SON OF A BITCH"
-Portals (no handheld gun, though)

That's things that are likely. Things that are not going to happen but god it would be so cool:
-Get split off from Alyx for an hour, because that'll make things a hell of a lot spookier
-The ship is unstable space-time-wise when you near a core or something similar, and some fancy effects are constantly sending you through space and time (glimpses of the Combine homeworld, Xen, or Black Mesa? How about a scene with G-Man and Eli talking for more exposition?)

I've been thinking of a dream Episode 3 plot summary for a while,, and these are just a few ideas that I might use for it.

? Sniper rifle, like in the original Half-Life1. Preferably with 2 or three types of ammo, armor piercing, HEI, and hollow points.

? Laser Trip Mines, like in the original HL1.
The Sniper in Half-Life 1 was a Crossbow. The Opposing Force Sniper is the level of bland suitable to illustrate why it is a good thing that Half-Life has always gone with something different. Laser Trip Mines are a horrible, horrible idea, because they're dependent on making the AI stupid enough to ignore and waltz into them, lowering people's impressions of what they're up against. They're effective in Deathmatch type games because people are willing to believe that Internet gamers are stupid enough to walk into them. In the fiction of a game though, people are less likely to forgive armed super soldiers for ignoring red lasers.
? More secret places to find Easter Eggs and supplies, cubby holes, vents, behind lockers, etc etc.
Amen... but I can see why Valve avoid this. The driving chapters in Half-Life 2 are a good illustration: You only go inside most of the houses to gather health and ammunition, but 9 times out f 10, you don't actually need the damned stuff. So you go in simply for the sake of going in, fighting some zombies and replacing the supplies you expended in going inside the house.

I liked how in Episode Two, it was optional to get the Rocket Launcher, right until the very last battle where you stumble across it. However, there was barely any ammunition for it once you found it, and nothing really worthwhile to use it on...
? Alaskan Snow Borers, cousins to Ant Lions.
If something is remotely antlion like in Episode Three, I will scream :P
? Hoping Eli has an unexpected return, patched together by the Vorts as they did Alyx in EP2.

? Alternative method, Alyx finds a recording her Dad left her in the event of his death with explanations for both Alyx and Gordon.
First point; NO! Second point, as much as I love Robert Guillaume's voice, having Eli leave a message is just rather lame. If he had something to say, he should have damn well said it already. Sure, the character didn't know he was going to die in the context, but that doesn't make doing this any less forced on the developer's part.

I personally want to see some kind of high-powered weapon like the Tau or Gluon gun, a foil to the Gravity Gun / Portal Gun (Which i'm all but certain we will get). Something that is a traditional, valid alternative to Valve's more inventive guns wouldn't be unwelcome. Any new gun would be welcome now, since the Portal Gun isn't really 'new' in any way...

edit: Also, invisible enemies that you have to 'Paint' with the Paint-can props - either with the Gravity Gun or a Physics puzzle - so that you can see and kill them.

Did Valve say Chell would make an appearance in Episode 3?

If yes, then bring it on!

I believe in the commentary they said something along the lines of running into her again...

The Sniper in Half-Life 1 was a Crossbow. The Opposing Force Sniper is the level of bland suitable to illustrate why it is a good thing that Half-Life has always gone with something different.

Agreed, the rifle in op4 was bland. It was also actually useful. It helps that the combine sniper rifle which already exists is not bland...

Same armed super soldiers who seem to think that mines with bright red lasers are effective weapons against the player...

Any new gun would be welcome now, since the Portal Gun isn't really 'new' in any way...

yes. this.
