Illegal downloaders 'face UK ban'

Meh. As long as I have a copy of 3DSMax and Photoshop without having to shell out ridiculous amounts of money just to produce non-commercial work, then I'm fine.

I doubt this'll get through, and even if it does then we just encrypt all our P2P actions.

nope, if they've stayed in the game this long, they won't quit by that.

Just goes to show what an oppressive society the UK is becoming. And also:
Six million people a year are estimated to download files illegally in the UK.
Now I'd even say that was a conservative estimate, but how could ISP's possibly be happy about potentially having to ditch 6 million users?

Good point. Business always wins (edit) over these kinds of moral feel good bills.

I think some ISPs have said it would be almost impossible to regulate.

Which is correct.

Peerguardian, TOR, proxy server. The FBI could find me, but my ISP sure as hell won't if it hasn't got a reason to think i'm using P2P illegally.

it would back up the courts for years if they even prosecuted 1% of those that file share ..sounds like a scare tactic ..besides how much jurisdiction do they have in forcing isps into complying?

Well since it's a crime to be doing piracy, the government probably has as much as it needs to get the people it wants. Thing is, it's quite the population.

I'm normally in favour of draconian punishments but that's awful.

Never gunna happen. Not in a million years.

New NEW NEW NEW Prisons for the P2Pers! We won't dirty our normal prisons for these wastes of life! We'll lock 'em up for a minimum for 15 years!!! Conjugal Visits? NO WAY!! They'll learn that stealing isn't good, especially hundreds of thousands of dollars worth! Come down on Saturdays for "PIN THE TAIL ON THE INMATE".

It will be a cold day in hell when they do this.

Hell will have already been distributed across the internet well before then as a free download and had the temperature modified to be below zero by a creative individual with a fun personality.

Haha, thats like a million more then the population of Scotland, my end of the country, LOL.

Yeaaaah....the ISP's will cave before that TBH. Impractical, and even if thy could effectively ban every single file sharer, folk wouldn't put up with it, and the ISP's would put themselves out of business, just from the loss of customers alone.

It really says something when redistribution of data in this world is more controversial and dare I say more actively pursued when trying to regulate it than the redistribution of illegal firearms.

Of course that could be completely bogus(and probably is), but it's a fun statement to say, and at times it's how I feel.

I read that out like it was the POWERTHIRST! video.
