Truthfully it's like a bucket wheel excavator. Instead of one or a series of bucket crane things out there it has a constantly moving one that it just buckets the material into the shovels and loads it on a conveyor belt that distribute it to different areas via the rig.

it's an HDR shot with a shit load of tone-mapping. It's nothing you can't do with any digital camera, a tripod, and photomatix.
