Hello. I'm getting an error message about halfway through the installation process saying that theres an error reading from the file: c:\program files\valve\halflife2\hl2\materials\concrete\concretefloor028c_normal.vtf
It also says to verify that the file exists and that I can access it.
I dont know if my cd is scratched or what. Can someone please help me find this missing file? It sure would be a waste if I cant play this game because of one little file.

Thanks.

I thought that it was supposed to install in the steam folder...... hmmm.....

Maybe someone could send me this file via email and I could put it in the correct folder...would that work?

What are you installing from, a bootlegged disk? The installation program is only supposed to copy several huge gfc files, not all those specific little files.

yes, it's bootlegged. this disk has worked before but I was unable to play it then because of a low-end graphics card. I got a new card now and am ready to play. any suggestions?

You better **** off and take your crappy pirated copy with you then.

If it's bootlegged, it most probably wouldn't run anyway. HL2 requires Steam, and even a full HL2 folder with all the files wouldn't make it run - it would give an error after 60 seconds.

The best thing for you to do is, go and buy the game. Seriously, it's really, really worth the money it costs.

You can try and get your game running like this, which is possible, but: you will experience some problems with it, not be able to play online, and it won't be easy to find people willing to help you.

I bought the game when it came out, first day of release actually. My computers graphics card couldnt handle it so I sold it on ebay. A friend of mine got this pirated version a while back. It has an option to play 'offline', which is what I want because I don't have the internet at my house.

HL2 has the option to be played offline only after you install it for the first time, which needs Internet. You're supposed to install, register your CD-key with a Steam account, download updates, and then you can check the offline mode and play with that. HL2 is NOT installable without Internet - so you'll need to bring your home computer somewhere with net access after you get a new copy.

Believe me, getting the pirated version to work will be problematic. As said, you'll lose a good part of the functionality, and it won't be that easy to do anyway.
