I think you all know that VALVe never intended Gordon to be seen by the player h(er)imself.

So i noticed a little thing...where are the goddam mirrors in this game!
No house, no bathroom, no nothing or anything has a mirror.:dozey:

Did Valve do this on purpose?
To keep us from seeing ourself?
Is this like HALO!!?

ps:sorry IF this has already been discussed.

No mirrors anywhere.

Not even the water. It reflects land, but no objects (including yourself).

Same at Black mesa, bathrooms had no mirrors, just a shelf where a mirror should be.

In this world without mirrors
I constantly wonder
How male_09 gets a shave.

I think you can turn on the water reflecting objects in the options menu (But it still doesn't reflect the player.

technology wasnt good enough to do that anyways lol

Well it is, but it's more trouble than it's worth. In fact I watched a video a long time ago of Sven Co-op 2 having achieved a perfect mirror reflection technology with player models as well.

well, did you know that reflectivity of certain objects increases as the light shining on the object drops. anyway, it the gd freeman model does not even exist within the gcf files, only the suit does, his head model is not there at all.

now, I wonder if valve even modeled hl2 freemans head..

They modelled his head.

It's just not in the game.

Barneys' helmets reflected in HL1 :P

They didn't actualy reflect anything.
They just shined and stuff.
Same with the handguns bullethole thing.
When an idle or reloading animation comes, it reflects(nothing).
Otherwise it's still.
And Ginat384...whatcha talkin' aboot. Have you played Redneck Rampage?
It has shitty graphics but the mirrors reflect (somewhat), and it's a damn fine game.

They did. It's in HL1 and you can see another one in Raising the Bar.

source engine 1.0 has reflections as part of features but without post-processing effects like blur, bump mapping, hdr (duh) ect.

Can we all accept the fact that Source has no reflections but for unknown reasons you don't reflect?

I played again HL2 ep1, and in the beginning, before the van ride, just after D0g holds the crashed gunship for you and Alyx, to get throu, you can see the sunset (or sunrise, whatever, dont want to argue) and Alyx has a nice long shadow, as she should have... and I find it a bit disturbing that Gordon has no shadow... or anything... I dont want a complete player model, but it would be nice to see that you are actually in the game, not just a shadowless, bodyless something with guns :)

*shrug*

Their game, their rules.

Whatcha gonna do.

We could always pretend that his jaunt to Xen and back means that he doesn't block the light or something. > <

Gordon has so many unusual qualitys that i've seen.
He doesn't cast a shadow.
He is actually just an HEV suit without a head.
...
He doesn't talk.
Things like the talking issue make me wonder how he got through the dark and twisted world of Half-Life.

Half-Life1:
Barney:"Hey Gordon...Catch me later! I'll buy ya' a beer."
Gordon: "..."

Half-Life2:
Rebel: "Ok doctor.Freeman we're waiting for your command to move out"
Gordon: "..."
Rebel: "Freeman?"
Gordon: *looks at him* "..."
Rebel: "Are you ok, Doct-aaaughhhz!"
Rebel#2: "Oh my god! They killed Rebel_09! You bastards!
Gordon: "..."

Ps: I think i actually saw his model once in Gmod.
I'm not sure it was him but it was an orange Hev suit with the helmet on and it looked like it had textures from HL1.
Pss: About not casting a shadow...this is what i mean>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItsHNyEel38

Gordon obviously talks. How's he supposed to command the Rebels otherwise? We just don't hear him. Freeman's voice is supposed to be the player's own, all it takes is a little imagination.

There are many Gordon-models for gmod.

What...you mean downloadables?
If yes then i saw the model without DLing anything.
It was the first model after spawning(creating my game).
After that my model changed.

Oh the player model from HL1, right.

On my games Gordon's figure is just a colorless texturless shadow of his HL1 model. He doesn't even hold the guns. If you take out the pistol in the third person view it looks like he's turtle necking it. If you take out the gravity gun, Humungoid orange pen-is that moves up and down of it's own free will... :o

I heard there was a command line for the console, that allows you to see in 3rd person view.

Yeah, it's "thirdperson" if I remember correctly. Strangly, in HL2 I see no player model when I use it, but I see the grey one in EP1.

Ummm... I don't know maybe mod the game, and add a player model, mirrors etc.

PS: Valve's design decision is effing stupid

actually i do not want a player model to reflect. i really want it to feel like i am gordan freeman and if i say my face, i'll say, dam thats not me. valve wants us to make us feel that way, like we are speaking as part of him, thinking, ect..

Gordon's UNmodelled head is similar to Halo.
Where you never see MC's face...or head.(It's in the helmet)

And to anyone who has read "Concerned"(A damn good comic!). What model was used when you could see some parts of Gordon? The part for example where Frohman sees Gordon holding "his" gravity gun. Freeman's hand can be seen. Is it the same model i saw in Gmod?

I disagree. The first time I stepped in front of a mirror in Doom 3 my first thought was "Who's this ugly dickhead?" or something along those lines. When I looked into a puddle and saw my reflection if FEAR I though "Why am I in such a stupid-looking and awkward stance?". In Deus Ex and Duke Nukem 3D when I saw my reflection I thought "Why is my reflection of the way I'm holding a weapon completely different from my first-person view?". Seeing yourself distracts from the game and ruins immersion.

Plus, I think you can get away with picking up items and having them floating in front of player, but if you see that in a reflection it just looks utterly stupid.

He looks at where he wants them to go. Pretty amazing that it works, actually!

I agree wit j00 riomhaire.. Mirrors in games sucks a bit..
Myes especially in Doom3.

Speaking of which, I wish they implemented a simple animation for commanding the rebels.

Military gesture of forward when you order them to go somewhere and a military gesture of regroup.

But that would mean that you would have to stop shooting while you gave orders!

And it wouldn't be a simple animation because they'd have to have an animation for each weapon the player may be holding while giving orders.
