Natural Selection 2 engine preview

It's probably my favorite multiplayer game ever. I played in a fun clan for over two years and had the best time I've ever had online with those people.

Hopefully, the old team will get back together, but I'm afraid that's not possible... (damn you, WoW!)

Yeah, going to pre-order the special edition as well. I never did the Constellation/donation, and I'm thinking of doing it at the same time.

What does this mean:
Pre-order is stand-alone and will auto-update, but doesn't include Steam version.
Does it mean that the alpha is non-Steam or the game as well?

Yes?

YES!

YEEEEESSSSS

*EDIT* I'm going to be getting the special edition. Then again, I was also a Constellation member...so I'm a sucker for them.

I loved what I played of the HL mod, but didn't get too into it, just a few games with someone from hl2.net (can't remember who unfortunately).

Will be ordering the special edition.
EDIT: Ordered. I'm a sucker for cool extras.

I can't wait for this game. And I'll have a computer that'll be able to play it in its full glory!

Oh raz, I forgot to mention. I re-routed all your shipments to my address. Thanks for the new components.

I always wanted to play the first, but I never got around to it.

So this is worth a buy?

System Requirements:

1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows Vista/2000/XP, mouse, keyboard and an internet connection. Pre-order is stand-alone and will auto-update, but assume it doesn't include the Steam version.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but these seem awfully optimistic to me.

I'm also a bit skeptical about the release being in the fall. Even if they make it I can't help but feel it'll be rushed. For it to be ready by fall I would think it would have to be a beta in the balancing and bug-fixing phase, but from the twitter comments on their site it sounds like they are still finalizing gameplay ideas, which I would classify as pre-alpha.

That being said I do think they have a very talented and capable team working on this, so we'll see how it goes.

I've been a Constie (Constellation member, donator) since 2004... so I feel a bit entitled to get the "Special Edition" for the price of the "Standard Edition".... but screw it, I'll drop $40 on the Special Edition anyway. :D

I'll be happy if they just have Beta instead of full release by Fall of this year.

EDIT: Damn PayPal is delaying my bank transfer for the PreOrder until Monday... goddamn, I better not miss out on Alpha stuff if it is launched this weekend (unlikely).

Wow, its really coming out! ****ing hell ya!

I didn't like the addition of Combat, because it split the community in half. It was also bad when severs had both map types in their rotation.

Really been looking forward to this, i hope the game is close to the original in gameplay and atmosphere, one worry I have is that once it becomes a mainstream commercial game, it may lose the generaly mature community that the original enjoyed. There are certain elements to the game that were highly griefable, and most open game communities tend to be full of annoying tossers.

The devs seem to be interested in smart game design tho, so I have my hopes.

Combat mode was really meant to be more of a "Fill the server" mode, so that normal NS maps would kick in once enough players were on (Thats why you could set map rotation based on player count).

However, a lot of people liked it. Which would have been fine, but it meant that finding a decent game of vanilla NS became tricky overnight.

My favorite version was 1.04, after that it got weird to me. :(

I started at 2.0, so I really can't say much there. I do see how the game evolved and turned a lot of people off. If I didn't take so many breaks, I'd be playing the game pretty religiously still. It sucks, because when you take a break, you lose almost everything that you were good at with the game, and you just get stomped. Although, I was never good as a Skulk. Fkn little dogs. I could never shoot them or kill with them. It's sad.

I'm thinking about jumping on NS sometime this week(end)...if anybody is up for some fun, we could get a little group and raid some servers.

I'm definitely up for it.
Just send a PM whenever you want to play. :D

wow, this is exciting. NS1 was my favourite game for at least 3 years! It's still the best gameplay idea there ever was.

This one speaks the truth!

I thought I was the only one. For some reason I would always get killed as a Skulk, but I could never kill them that fast.

Ooooh, I just watched the trailer again and noticed some hidden Skulk(s) :D

0.17 under the grate on the left and 0.41-0.42 climbing the wall behind the Onos

Ohhh, bad-ass, I didnt notice the one on the wall. :D

Man, I remember why I haven't played regular NS for the longest time. The community is filled with elitist assholes.

You make one mistake *drop a defense chamber in the wrong spot* and they will rip your ass the entire game. I swear, I hope they hate NS2 because it's deviating too much from the original and just stay there, like the CS 1.6 people.

I loved commanding, I was pretty good at it.
I was a crappy foot soldier though, couldn't hit any of the skulks... ended up just nade spamming like a bastard.

I was great at setting up defenses and stuff as both sides though.

I wonder if the Onos can still devour people. The way it worked in NS1 would look pretty lame in comparison to how amazing the game looks now.

When is this coming out, god dammit!?

I want a game to play with my new beastly computer! One I can afford... and 20 bucks isn't that bad!

Get Killing Floor then, just came out a couple weeks ago.
It's basically an even scarier and more British L4D.

I could never swallow people as Onos, everyone could get me fine though.

Is it worth buying then?

I guess so.
I've only ever played UT2k4 mod and it was pretty fun.

I'd imagine that the retail version is better in every way though.

The trick was not to aim with your mouth, but aim with the middle of your screen (where your crosshair would be). It took me a while to get the hang of it, but after a while you can even catch the bunnyhopping ones (<3 cloak).

Yeah, I always aim the mouth towards their feat. Eaten every time!
