Noooo!!

A fixed date? I never remember Valve saying a fixed date. They said it should be out in 4Q 2006 and then 1Q 2007. To think that Valve would stick to their original release schedual is beyond naive.

I was hoping it would be released for my birthday :(

This summer release is kinda O.o wtf? but I could see a Spring release since its near my Birthday April 13, 1988; but common Summer. You know what, Im not going to assume Valve is going for a summer release; I strongly expect either a Fall 2007 release or a Q1 2008 release for Ep2. Episode 3 will release in 2010 in the summer & HL3 will release in 2025 in the fall. Guarenteed.

Just so you know the episodes are HL3 this was said in an interview with Gabe (I don't have the link unfortunately).

Not really, because the episode's just expand & give a conclusion to the HL2 story arc'. You can kinda think of it as HL3, but it isn't; they're episode's.

Also we will get a HL3, the next full HL. ;)

hope that clears things up for ya.

okay but Gabe said Hl episodes=Hl3

But you see, its nice to think of them as yet they're not; but don't forget we are having another HL & its will be definately be called HL3, you can't name it HL4. They just give a conclusion to the HL2 story arc. Also people used to think the episode's where the end of the HL story as a whole, after that interview your talking about. :P

Cheers,

Interesting stuff. Judging from the gameplay videos they've already got the gameplay and art assets nailed, but I'm guessing in typical Valve fashion they feel they want to tune it up to another level. The good news is that Episode 2 is going to be of pretty damn high quality; the bad news is the longer the wait.

Still, safe bet to say I'll have nothing on in the Summer time.

I'm not surprised by this latest development, and I'm really not bothered.

I could've sworn that said living in a crate the first time I read it.

So much gameplay has changed from the videos it's unbelievable.

There have been multiple levels that have been scraped and redone... They are working hard to make sure Ep2 is better in every aspect than Ep1, and it just takes time...

Trust me, it's worth it.

I hope they don't scrap that cave.

If Valve was a student in High School, Valve would fail & drop out because of the too many absences & latenesses.

Release date comes, and I find out it isn't true... I'll slap you with beef, but please don't eat it.

In my mind, episodes are about realeasing a shorter game faster than if they made a completely huge game. The whole point being to get feedback for the next episode. Which they have been doing.

Took over a year for episode 1, and as it is now it seems to be a year for episode 2. But then episode 2 comes with TF2, Portal, and it's said to be somewhat longer. So who gives a shit.

And everyone needs to fix there sense of time ("Episode 1 was 2 hours long, and took two years to come out").

If it was released in 2023...?

Patience fellow gamers, patience is the keyword :P

Nah I don't like to wait either but good games have to take as long as it takes to get done imo.

I thought the whole idea behind these episodic releases was to get the new games to us faster :|

This is most ironic.

I admit I was looking forward to play Ep Two somewhere in February or so... yet I never get upset at news of a game being delayed. Games need time, and I know that from first-hand experience. If it's delayed, that's more time to work on it and to polish it. I can just be glad that Valve is one of the few companies that actually has control over its release dates, and can push it back a few months - many, many companies in a similar situation just get forced by their publisher to release a game that badly needs another month or two of development.

Still, this is ironic given how Gabe repeatedly said he likes the episode concept as it allows Valve to give new games faster, months apart. If Ep Two comes out a year after Ep One, then the concept of fast releases is sort of lost.

Funny how every Valve game, starting with HL1, had been delayed :). Again, though, this is great stuff, as it means more polish.

Heh, this will give me time to save up for a new computer. Then I'll be able to play Ep2 the way it's meant to be played, and Portal, and TF2....

The release may not be fast, but it's most certainly faster than waiting for HL3 (whoever says "Gabe said the episodes are HL3" gets a virus for not getting the damn point and taking a quote out of context)

Funnily enough, I won't need a new PC for Ep2, which gets delayed. But Episode One, which got released on time, I didn't play for a few months after release until I upgraded. Meh.

Valve should learn from Epic games and say "When it's done" :D

They have. They always go back on it and give estimated dates. The only time they stuck with "when it's done" was with TF2; it had that date for eight years.

Absuletly, definitely, exactly true. Please folks, episodes are HL3? Do you really believe that?

or i think Valve should quote "hl2 episode 2 release 2010" then everyone would be pleasently suprised when i came out sooner :D

No wonder my computer has been slow recently.
