On the Edge of Blade Runner

I ought to watch that, I did a critical analysis of Blade Runner for school a few months ago.

Just finished watching it, great documentary. Unfortunately things haven't changed much and original films still are likely not to be box office hits, but oh well.

Change that. Seriously.

It's an amazing sci-fi classic.

Just read this on Wiki

Among the folklore that has grown up around the film over the years has been the belief that the film was a curse[20] to the companies whose logos were displayed prominently in some scenes. While they were market leaders at the time, many of them experienced disastrous setbacks over the next decade and hardly exist today:

* Atari, which dominated the home video game market when the film came out, never recovered from the next year's downturn in the industry, and by the 1990s had ceased to exist as anything more than a brand, a back catalog of games and some legacy computers. The Atari of today is an entirely different firm, using the former company's name.
* The Bell System monopoly was broken up that same year, and all of the resulting Regional Bell operating companies have since changed their names and merged with each other or other companies.
* Pan Am suffered the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103 and went bankrupt in 1991, after a decade of mounting losses.
* Cuisinart similarly went bankrupt in 1989, though it lives on under new ownership.

Coca-Cola almost joined this list in the wake of its failed introduction of New Coke three years later, but has since experienced a thirtyfold increase in share price.

I thought it was pretty interesting. If anything, this will ensure those scenes timelessness for years to come, as the bulk of future generations will likely be unfamiliar with with those brands( making them seem exclusive to the film).

Make sure you only see the Director's Cut.
I dunno - whenever I show the director's cut to someone who hasn't seen it yet, there are way more questions about what's going on. After having seen the stock film, the director's cut was a welcome viewing, because it showed me something I didn't notice about the characters before - kind of like the ending of the Usual Suspects, but spread out over two fairly identical movies. However, had I not had the dialog explaining a lot of things previously, I would have left the movie with a pile of questions.

The theatrical release is a bit easier to follow... the director's cut is good as a watch afterwards.

...there are way more questions about what's going on. After having seen the stock film...

Exactly. It makes you think, some of the best films make you think like that and raise more questions than they answer, like 2001 for instance. Director's Cut is slightly darker too and besides, it's originally what Ridley Scott intended.

To this day I haven't seen the theatrical cut but consider the directors cut to be one of my favorite movies. I want to see the original though, just to compare.

A lot of people hate the directors cut, becauase they believe it ruined the mystery, I can understand that standpoint.

But I still like the directors cut more, because I believe it did a better job at focusing on whats the most important and raising the right questions and the unicorn dream was just such a wonderful edition imo, not only does it tie in the story better, it just looks so amazing and provides a nice contrast to the rest of the movie's atmosphere.

I like the ambiguity of the Director's Cut, as far as Deckard's humanity is concerned.

Just finished it, very well done.

Good post Stern.

Yeah, I've been meaning to see this for the longest time, but for some reason haven't gotten around to it. Hmph.

what? please fill me in ..what hints do they have to deckard being a replicant; it's been awhile since I've seen the dirctors cut

-They inserted a scene where he dreams of a unicorn.
-After Roy Batty's demise, Olmos' character comments that Deckard did a "man's job."
-Origami found in the ending.

I thought the origami was a sign that Gaff was going to come after deckard and Rachael because he knew about rachel ..hmmmm

what's the significance of the unicorn?

shit I have to watch it again, guess it's been awhile

Well yeah it's basically that. They made some Blade-Runner 2 novel not by Phil but by some other guy. People say it's bad but I never read it. Now if they made a pre-quel to BR or a BR2 that follows closely to the actual novel, omg. The way they describes the T-4834 something war (WW3) was awesome. They had a scene in which "Dekard" was supposed to meet a cop from Russia. He goes out to some remote area and this bombshell just lands right there. This guy gets out and it's there way of fast travelling. Turns out he is an assasin and tries to kill Dekard! An assasin android, simply amazing stuff. There is also a strange fascination with religion in the novel. The war also basically wiped out Earth and poor people constantly live in trash and radioactive fall-outs regularly occur.

Rish people get androids, the military, etc and live on off-world or Mars. Some go rogue though and escape to Earth. Also in a very weird part is Deckard has sex with a minor (Ashley) but he's human and she's a robot. Later she kills Deckards pet goat (living animals are SOOO precious after the fall-outs from WW3). Seriously just get your butt out there and read, watch this! Over the years movies have come close to BR like A.I, etc. A good tip for you people is to watch people's eyes including Deckard. When androids get angry their pupils turn red. Deckards turn red in one scene and some odd music starts playing. Think it was when Ashley saved Deckards life and they are in the apartment. The music is just ****ing fan-tastic too. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Blade-Runner&search=Search
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Androids_Dream_of_Electric_Sheep? *Even the opening is awesome. The skyline with major corporations belching fire from chiminy stacks while the city buzzes below. An eye is shown showing the flames and watching the Tyrell corp (probably an androids eye): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue1S3FvKWxo So amazing. **The black mamba from the Kill Bill series, yeah she played as a military android in BR too. She gets shot and killed though. She was Roy's GF.
