I feel that our generation hasn't struggled enough. We're getting soft and we need something ****ing epic to happen to us. AM I RITE? Where's our great depression? Where's our WWII?

We got Global Warming. That's a decent challange, but not perfect.

I think I like it as it is. I don't really want anything to happen, I kind of just want it all to end. Anything that affects a generation negatively is bound to be bad for us, but then again it might help the world learn from its own mistakes.

:|

Oh I suppose. Could we at least encounter some sort of bad ass space monkeys to hold us over till peak oil?

Trust me, some epic shit is going to go down in the next fifty years. Patience.

That's one of the most non-specific and near-guaranteed predictions I've ever read :p

17 years will be the downfall of the US society.

Oh there are many different struggles, we just avoid them as a generation. We seem at ease just to let things "go". To let things "happen".

We are still waiting for another major war.
1800s - Napoleon
1914-1945 - World War 1 and 2
2000? - Where is the war coming from - China? Russia? US?

China and the USA, along with two dozen other countries, initiate World War III. Nukes are used. 120 million Chinese dead and 30 million Americans dead. USA wins the war but finds itself exhausted and unable to garrison the land occupied by still a 1/5 of the world's entire population (the insurgencies that follow are a whole new war unto itself); the USA withdraws its troops and China falls into yet another civil war.

With China devastated and the USA eonomically and militarily weakened, India steps up its game to become the new global superpower -- that is, if the newly-empowered European Alliance allows it to be.

What India? Pakistan will nuke them when China and America decide to duke it out.

FALLOUT WOOooOOooo!

Kidding.

I dunno, do we really need to struggle? Can't we just lie around and pick our toenails or whatever?

we need a damned zombie outbreak or something. Call of Duty 4 isn't going to cut it anymore come 4 months.

What's with all this kind of profound topics cropping up recently? I'd have a field day if I could think of anything to say on this one.

Surely it's nostalgia talking when you claim that this particular generation has nothing to fight for. Or perhaps it's your own failure to fight? Are you out there at protests against ID cards and Guantanamo Bay? Are you involved in charities or group organisation or are you writing for newspapers or are you doing anything that tries to help the world?

It seems to me that if you believe your generation has no cause, that it has no struggle, that is only because you are not involved in one.

Ultimately, one builds one's own cause. The only reason not to do so is if everything is perfect. Is it?

Go live in Iraq. Problem solved :P

But seriously, just because bad stuff isn't happening to your country, doesn't mean it isn't happening at all...

Ooh, hey, yeah, watch out, the oil crash might still happen. Then you won't be complaining about not having a struggle.

Agreed. By that time, we'll <(U.S. citizens) be using dollar bills with Mao Tung on them instead of George Washington since China basically owns the U.S. now since it's been in trillions of dollars of debt with China for years due to poor trade practices.

In the meantime, our generation here in the U.S. has outsourcing to deal with, which sucks enough thank you very much. :P

I'm a right selfish git, so I'm too wrapped up in my own problems and triumphs to care a great deal about the shit state of the world.

If disaster is coming, or toil and conflict, it'll have to pull down my trousers and give me a prostate exam before I start noticing or caring.

Selfishness is what caused outsourcing here in the U.S. :( Corporate and state leaders who think with the notion, "How can I make a quick buck here and now? Screw our grandchildren and great-grandchildren btw, as we won't be alive to care about the mess we make anyways". Fu***ing old greedy bastards. :hmph:

you have the struggle against injustice and persecution by your own government

you have the struggle against injustice and persecution by your own government
I wouldn't say that. It's more like the struggle against, "I don't give a s*** about any of you as long as we can make our billions" government. :P

Man, I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

The greatest struggle is universal peace. Something which has been struggled for all of mankind, but never accomplished.

That is the greatest struggle.

Very pissed off my ass, most of us are still lounging around on internet forums.

I think an equivalent struggle for our generation is along the lines of someones ipod breaking.

50 years ago: "MOM, Johnny has polio!"

Today: "MOM, Johnny's blog is barely getting any views, lol!!!1111"

Kids stay inside to play their portable gaming systems now. lololololol

It's nice knowing I was one of the last people to be raised in a respectable world. 3 channels on tv, a gameboy nowhere in sight, reasons to go outside all day, etc, etc.

I think in coming years we'll probably face the greatest struggles in history, ironically I can't think of a worse prepared generation for it.

We'll have the economic breakdown of the world, global warming...
we're screwed.

you guys are describing mostly western society. In europe, most of it is still like the old days..at least when i visited relatives there. We never stayed inside, we all were outside every day playing soccer, talking, or just taking a walk until late at night.

It's western society that's gotten "bad"..but whatever im not locked in my house, i still go outside and enjoy playing sports/hanging out with my friends.
