Particle Effects

Recently I've started planning for a mod called The Battle of Evermore. There will be wizards, witches, warlocks, and all sorts of other magical hoodlums. I intend to have extremely detailed spell animations with hardcore particle effects. How suitable is the Source engine for this sort of game? What sort of modules are already in place to handle these type of special effects?
 
Well, you can make your own entities, you can easily put in textures and lighting,... The Source engine seems highly suitable for this. Just don't make the maps too large and the textures too big and your FPS will be fine :p

Still, I'd wait for a more proficient person to come along and (probably) correct me :p
 
Particle effects are easily done using the temporary entity system.
