PC gaming

I like a slow, tense build up to sudden action and then prolonged action leading to a resolution.

That's what she said.

Couldn't resist.

But seriously, I think Eejit had a case of speaking before thinking; happens to everyone, it's just better to know when to quit.

Sure is butthurt in here. I guess Veggie isn't the only Mr Overly Defensive about their pet game - please don't shoot me bros. I guess abrasive negative subjective impressions must be stamped out at all costs.
Oh, and lol, it's a bit rich some of you complaining about me misinterpreting things with all the words you're putting in my mouth.

a game for yankee gun-wanks

A couple of sentences about the teamwork being great then 1000 words about guns. 'nuff said.

Not everyone is into slowly pleasuring themselves with a .357 round

This gameplay appeals to those who value the realism of the weapon mechanics which cause it... gun-wanks.

Gun-fetishists are more forgiving of this. Also sounds like the devs are gun-wanks.

Nobody needs to put words in your mouth. You're just being an insufferable cock.

Good one playing the 'lol guys dont get so defensive about your pet game' card. It's not like you repeatedly made the same dumbass attack on the game that was totally incorrect despite how much we tried to convince you otherwise. I guess you can't pull your head out of your ass after all.

Arma2 is not necessarily a game solely for gun-nuts, even if it is a gun-wankery kind of a game. I maintain that gameplay resulting from realistic firearms and damage systems tends towards too much insta-killing after often slow build-up. Gun-fetishists are more forgiving of this.

Great thanks for that amazingly generous concession. I guess you read my post and others and figured we were just the exception to the rule? I really have no clue where you're pulling these assumptions from but they do have a distinctive brown hue on the way out.

Sure is butthurt in here.

I hate this word more than anything.

I guess abrasive negative subjective impressions must be stamped out at all costs.

Except they're no longer subjective once they start being wroooooooooong. I tried to correct your impression of the game before without being a dick about it, I even conceded to your qualms about the game's realism, but I guess you're more concerned with trolling Veg (it is pretty easy, lol). Really though, the gun nut thing is completely baseless, and only a small facet of the game. Is there some overlap between military/gun enthusiasts and Arma players? Most probably, but that's not all there is to the game. When you talk about gun nuts being "forgiving" of certain aspects of the game, please realise that you're not actually pointing out flaws, you're just (wrongfully) describing a certain kind of gameplay that some people actually happen to enjoy, regardless of the military theme or proliferance of guns. It's not a perfect game, there are certain things I do have to overlook to enjoy it, but they're incidental things and mostly down to the game engine. As far as what I get out of it, I don't see that the actual fundamentals of gameplay are inherently flawed in any way. That's a subjective judgement, to be sure, but at least it's based on more than a passing impression of the game's reputation.

Anyway, it doesn't seem like the game is going to be your cup of tea anyway, and there's no way all of us speaking up to defend it is going to be perceived as anything but a fanboy pile-on, so I don't see any point in continuing this derail.

The only time insta-death ever really occurs is when we get fired on by anti-aircraft flak guns we didn't notice, and then thats entirely our fault for not surveying the area better.

Be honest though, those flak guns are ****ing death machines, it can be a pretty big pain sometimes. Slowly cresting a hill with no immediate line of sight to the guns is suicide most of the time, and there aren't always different vantage points that won't be fired upon as well. Granted, this is a pretty specific complaint, but those guns are really unforgiving.

Eejit please stop living up to your username.

I've read through this thread and I must say, I really want to join you guys in playing Arma. It looks like a lot of fun.

I'm a little surprised that anyone could read through that shit and end up wanting to play. Awestruck, even.

We'd be glad to have you along, Schweppe.

Something good came out of that shit, can anyone believe this?

Yeah that Arma game sounds awesome, I'd be up for playing that.

I can't get my microphone to work though and I can't for the life of me figure out why. It's incredibly annoying.

YOU'RE ALL GUN FETISHISTS!!1
but mostly veg

Shogun 2 Total War is on Steam sale this weekend, definitely worth checking out.

YOU'RE ALL GUN FETISHISTS!!1
but mostly veg
Not a single one of the sentences in my post about what guns to pick contains useless gun porn information. Everything I said has a direct tie to the gameplay, which is why I ****ing said it. Can you point me to what in this thread exactly makes me a gun fetishist? Is it because I'm naming actual weapon names or calibres? You can replace the calibre designations with 'small, medium, and large' and the weapon names with famous actors for all I care. It doesn't affect a god damn thing.

Everything I said there is a result of my experience with the game. Not based on or reliant on any knowledge of real life firearms.

Yeah, I think my post got lost among the shit a few pages back, but I'm also interested in giving the free version a try with you guys. I'm free most weekends, so let me know if you guys want to have a quick session.

Wow, it is really easy to troll you Vegeta. I put way too much effort into it when I troll you apparently.

What a landfill of hilarity and stereotype this thread is. Props to Eejit, hahaha

Gunwanks, hahaha

so true.

Here's an idea, maybe the mods can make an Arma section where you guys can discuss everything related to that game. Maybe then other general gaming threads wont degenerate like this. Ah **** it, who am I kidding.

We kind of do need a GunWank forum, it would sit great next to our AspieCraft forum.

It would make more sense than the Bioshock forum at least.

Arguably I stopped worrying about guns once I started playing and really only used the mk17 rifle and sometimes switched to the sniper version.

also dragon erry day

ACOG'd mk17, god tier assault rifle.

Okay look maybe I am a little gun wanky as a result of Arma 2 but I didn't ask for this.

What are the ironsights like on the ACOG'd mk17? If I remember correctly they're a bit hard to use in close quarters, they take up a lot of the screen when you have them up.

I mainly just choose the red dot version because it's still pretty effective at medium-long ranges, and of course great in close quarters too.
