Well, my SiS says on the box directx9 t&l... but thats besides the point. I guess it just wont work. As far as being a slow computer?? what ever my dad owns a computer store. he brought me home a chaintech geforce fx 5200. we will see how that works.

I do have a pentium 4 processor with 512mg ram.

The fx5200 should work. I don't know how well it performs in HL2 but it should be decent.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the fx series of GeForces were the first to be able to run dx9 right?

The 9700Pro was the first DX9 card, about a year ahead of the FX5900. But yes, a FX5200 would work for HL2. It's about 80$ in a retail store.

so did the 9550 come after it because thats a dx9 card

I tested HL2 with a 1.6ghz CPU, 256mb RAM, a 16mb video card and it worked fairly well with the lowest settings possible. (20 fps average)

9600 also has DX9 support. 9550 (which I have) is basically a 9600 with reduced core and memory speeds. You can easily bring them up to R9600 level anyway.

the video card i got works great now. i think that they just didnt like the SiS cards. Screen is a bit laggy.

good to hear you got it working, but dont expect super smoothness, my computer, 2.26ghz ati 9800 pro, doesnt seem to run half life 2 at the greatest speed, and yes i know my processor is crap.

It also depends what kind of CPU. Athlon is the best CPU for gaming!
