Portal's voice in ep2? *spoliers*

you can hear the same voice from portal (glados) in various parts of ep2.

any ideas on what this means?

i dont really have one theory but i was thinking that the combine might have hijacked glados or something and now use it to their own good. but that also means that the combine must have discovered the portal technology developed by aparture. that also raises the question why we havent seen any portal tech in ep2 at least, since in ep1 and hl2 the developing team (of the games that is) didnt even know or thought about portal.

Are you sure you're hearing her voice. There's the Overwatch announcer, but I'm not sold on it being the voice of GLaDOS or some other variant. They're just similar, what with both being deadpan female voices.

I almost thought the Overwatch announcer got replaced by the Portal voice when I first played through EP2, but listening to the EP2 sound files without any interfering noise proves it's the same Overwatch announcer as before.

Is the same voice actress. She also did the voice overs for the TF2 announcer. Really a stunning job across the board.

to be more specific - its kinda at the beginning, when you're with alyx talking to eli and he tells you to get to white forest (if memory serves). you also hear it when you see all of the combine forces move on the bridge (great scene btw) and a few other times before or while you get attacked.

and im convinced its the portal voice. its kinda... broken... just like portals (reminds me of the way gman talks also...).

and black op, if you could upload those sound files for us to hear - that would be awesome, because i cant seem to find them... :x

Speaking of voice actors, is there a way to look up which voice actor did what? One of the new rebels is insanely familiar-sounding. The not-medic one when you're with the vorts, and the commander of the white forest defenses,and a few other rebels too.

EDIT: Nm, it does say who they play in the credits. The voice I thought familiar was Adam Baldwin (Jayne from Firefly/Serenity).

And more on topic: She really did do a fantastic job on the orange box games . I adore the TF2 announcer, and now GLaDOS especially.

Yeah, Ellen McLaine is brilliant. Overwatch voice in HL2 made the C17 levels incredibly atmospheric; the unnamed TF2 announcer gives a great style to the basic gameplay mechanics; GLaDOS is basically ****ing awesome, period.

I don't think there is a story tie between the voices. Just using the same voice actors. Like the same voice actor for Gman and Barney.

One of the things I really liked hearing in the Portal commentary was Ellen Mclaine switching between her natural voice and GLaDOS to make an example (it was pretty uncanny even without all the digital alterations). I was so shocked to learn that the same guy who voiced Barney also did G-Man.

I would *love* that. Voice-acting is something I'm deeply interested in, and I'd love to hear Shapiro switch to his g-man voice mid-sentence.

All the voice actors in HL2 are just brilliant. They fit the characters they play perfectly. Ellen Mclane is amazing, even though you usually dont hear her much in HL2. Loved Portal though.
