Post your latest music tracks/WIP's and comment!

the release for my album went tits up, and since winter's ending soon, and it being winter themed and all, gives me no reason to hold onto it anymore. enjoy!

Very chill. Nice pads in staden sover.

In the meantime, here's a remix of Roygbiv by BoC I've been working on today. Very WIP.

!!! Love the drums/percussion stuff.

I want to try me some remixes now...

As I was working, I couldn't properly listen to all the songs, but 'Vodka Keeps Me Warm' was very enjoyable! Will be keeping hold of these tracks. What went wrong with the launch?

Cheers! :) I really enjoy that track too, it was fun working with it.
My approach was in general just keeping it simple, abusing 808 samples, partly because I don't get my tracks done if they are jazzy drillfests, but mostly because my computer doesn't handle big tracks that well. I'm finding some good workarounds for that though, and I'm getting more comfortable with finishing my tracks.

The guy handling the label basically disappeared, the last I heard from him was that they were having hosting issues, and it would take a month for it to get fixed, which they never did, the site is down and everything. My timing was bad, pretty much.

Ah, sorry to hear that man. I've downloaded it, I'll give it a listen on my proper speakers in a bit.

Thanks! Speaking of remixes, the last track on the album is a remix/cover of a medieval swedish christmas carol, that was really fun to do. :)

Site is down atm, I'll make sure to check your tune out.

Thanks brah. Post some music!

k...
Out of all my WIPs, this one is the closest to being 'finished' right now. It kind of works as it is, though.
That song is great. You should add more variation in the staticy sustain of the keyboard, mod wheel or a shaper or something like that. But aside from that, ace.

This song is a WIP. The bass reminds me of pre-2000 Nine Inch Nails, and the piano is mostly placeholder. Also I'm on my laptop, so equalization and mastering is totally out of the question for the time being.

Thoughts?

Oh and by the way, I really liked your album Harij It's too bad the release went under.

Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's not a problem anyway. I've met a guy who wants to help me get published, and a DJ veteran wants to master my stuff for free. I might have to move more into mainstream stuff though, ha! Check my other songs out too, I worked quite a bit with each one of them, probably better than some of the stuff on the album.

Your song is kickass! Very nice amount of little details, very original sounds. Chill and a little bit jazzy, yet daft at the same time. The bass just hits the perfect notes. The distorted 70's flute synth kinda thing just works so well with the detuned piano. A keeper for sure!

New version of my song. I felt like it was too chaotic played fast, but I didn't want to lose any of the complexity, so I just slowed it down. Changed up the EQ and bass as well.

I really dig your tune.

I hate to toot my own horn, but I'm really proud of this song. It's obviously still very WIP, I'd like to bring the drums out a little more, etc...

WHOOOA I'm lovin it. Check this group out, I really think you'll dig it. The leader's name is Hiromi Uehara, she's a fusion/jazz pianist.

Glad you liked it :) I just picked up a MIDI keyboard today, so this track should get expanded pretty quickly. The keyboard is nothing fancy, just velocity-sensitive keys, pitch/mod, and an output level, but I was doing everything else manually in Reason anyway so it's all I need.

Do you have any links where I can find more of your stuff? Preferably albums or compilations, so they have a place in my media library.

Congrats on your keyboard! It's going to make your life alot easier. How many octaves?

I don't do much compilations but I'm working on two new ones, one album and one EP. Will let you know when it's wrapping up.

Four. One might say it's one octave too many. Its only weakness is compassion...

Anyway. Yeah it's making my writing go so much smoother, I don't have to stop and manually write in every single note in the sequencer, and I can play along to the beat testing out synths without having to wrangle with the loop. In fact, here's an updated version of my song! :D

Bears Without Claws - 1997

I've begun to utilize the studio at my school, took my computer there and did some acoustic jamming with a piano, bass violin (so difficult to play!) and some various percussion items.. everything was overdubbed and the timing is terrible but it was fun as hell.

Hot damn Neptune, that track developed exactly like I hoped it would. Excellent work.

Also harij, top notch stuff as usual, I really liked the drum and bass track.

Also, new song : http://soundcloud.com/metagaddi/azure

This is the preliminary version. I'll post a new version when my guitarist records his part.

'Built for the Kill'

Just did this one, was playing with drums and the overall sound for hours.

If anyone can tell me what genre they think it is then they win an internet! If I've accidentally sounded like an obscure band you know that I havent heard of please let me know too cause id like to check them out.

Hey all,

I just played at Combo Nite, which is a live jazz combo gig here at Central WA University. The event was recorded and I've placed the two tunes we played on my music page. The two we played that evening are "Shady Business," written by our pianist, and "I Never Caught Her Name" which is an original that I wrote. Hope you dig it. My improvisation on "Her Name" got really interrupted when we failed to pull together the correct time change (was supposed to go into a 'double-time' feel, but it went into a 12/8, almost waltz, on accident, which fuster clucked my brain resulting in that awkward tone that I play at 4:09-4:15, so sorry in advance). I'm the sax player.

Feel free to check out the other tunes uploaded on there as well. "All Blues" is a Miles Davis tune that I arranged for jazz combo last quarter, and the rest are charts we play in Big Band II that feature me on a few improv solos.

Man there was nothing wrong with your playing lol.
Cool shit man.

My band's album is available for order online (only in the states I'm afraid). You can check out my band's music in my sig, and if you like what you hear, you can have our full-length for $5.97.

Here's a list of influences: Beck, The Pixies, They Might Be Giants, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, The White Stripes, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Queen, Ween, Electric Six, Radiohead, The Strokes, the minor pentatonic and blues scales

And here's a video of us performing live:

Hey, thanks a lot. Sorry I haven't browsed here in a while to respond. I was able to listen to your first track (currently waiting to stream the third track). I really dig the overall sound of the music. It's quite classy.

If you're influenced by Weather Report, I'll probably love your music. I'll be sure to watch that ASAP.

EDIT: I like it. Vocals are a bit drowned out from the instruments, but such is the burden of both a live recording, as well as a live recording without a decent sound board. Which one are you?

I am the lead singer.

Got a new track, not recorded anything for weeks, not had the chance.
I'm sort of still experimenting with my style, but I think I'm getting there!

tbh though the whole idea is to try new things all the time so my music will evolve over time.

"Dissention in Paradise"
I somehow ended up mixing elements of acoustic, alternative rock, ambience and chilllout into one track.

http://www.myspace.com/neptuneuk2001

Anyone interested in collaboration? I'm up for any genre(s)!

Edit: Uploaded the full version, with lyrics and vocals etc. I'm no singer or writer, this would be the first proper song i've written.

It sounds like you have a great ear for that genre (or genres?). Sounds like a professional song. Well done.

Thanks for listening man!

I revised the vocals so there are no longer a couple of shitty out of key bits no one would ever actually notice but me, also added some harmonising. Did some random tweaking as well. I think I'm done with it, I'm quite suprised at the audio quality seeing as I used a shitty 2.99 microphone!!!!! For the acoustic guitar, I used the audio straight from the mic with no post processing.

Ersatzarp

Been dicking around with this a lot. Some lame moments. And don't ****ing complain that it's too quiet. Turn that shit up.

Linguine Eastern

So I thought to myself, how lame can I make this sound? Very.

Mmmmeh. Rather simple, didn't bother expanding. Haven't finished a track in so long that I was just eager to call something finished.

hey that is pretty good. the pad in the end had some harsh upper frequencies
like the melodies.. the drum hits are cool but felt kind of weak, turn them up a little bit

everything feels too situated around the upper mid range, there's not much "flesh" so to speak, kinda like 90's idm, which is kinda cool if that was what you were aiming for.

the ending part has a good climactic feel, very soothing. that rough saw pad thing is very original, i think you should use it more.

lol at the odd film reference.

i'm away from home, so i can only make crappy hobnox acid
http://chimera.headfoam.net/various/xouth.mp3
fun as hell, but the 303 is such a bitch to program xD

Ah jeez Harij, I didn't want my piece of shit to undergo your usual pro scrutiny :p I was in fact going for that 90's feel, just ask Viper and he'll tell you I'm obsessed with that lately.

As usual I really dig your mysterious synth backing in your tracks, but the drums are just way too in-your-face for me haha

Haha, that's cool. I think you capture that sound well.. The only reason I went bitchy on your track was because I liked it so much, had it on repeat for 20 minutes or so. I think you have a good feel for that type of sound. Someone was dissing your electribe covers and I went apeshit on them haha :D was that track made with them? if not, I would love to hear more of your stuff with that. Your setup looks very kicking on the youtube vids. I think you should get a crappy old hardware compressor to bring them all together.. just a thought.

I think I want to change my opinion on your drums, the way you treat them reminds me of ulrich schnauss. he keeps his drums barely audible in a sea of melodies and sounds.

I was just saying that because I've noticed that in alot of your tracks, and I personally find the best way to treat drums is to make them much louder than the rest than your track, because when you compress the finalized track, a whole chunk of them is going to be cut away, so they're going to be barely audible if you kept them at a low level during the mix.

Anyway I know what you mean with quick unfinished sketches, but you still have very good ideas going on so you should take that as a compliment and encouragment to finalize your stuff, if that sounds like your cup of tea.

One thing I've noticed about music is that people don't react bad to really good or really bad tracks, but the ones in between, when it's halfway good but not really good.
That has kind of inspired me to work harder on my tracks.
