I'm just wondering whether this is just a local thing or not, but there appears to be a new craze around.
Scoobies Or ScoobyDoos.
Basically a couple of strands of plastic string that you tie together and braid into bracelets or whatever. There were a couple of people with them at the beginning of the week, and now they've spread like wildfire. Even the teachers know what they're called, which at my school is pretty rare, they're usually very detached from the pupils.
Not to stereotype, but the lads seem to be doing different things, half don't care and jump on the bandwagon, braiding pink threads and stuff...
While the other other seem to be trying to be manly and buy them to whip people with...
Personally, haven't bought a single one and I don't plan to. Is this just a local trend or is it spreading? The new yo-yo perhaps?

I accidentally cut my sister's one in half.... it was an accident....honest.

Never heard of them, and if I had, I would have taken the shears/axe/industrial shredder to them long ago

To cut something that big in half you have to cut all the rubber to split it, meaning this could not been done accidentally, unless using a very long sharp sword or a light saber altough we all know only jedis can own light sabers one of whom you are not!

Court finds Reginald guilty and is sentenced to death by gas chamber! ;)

Yes, I have heard of them, yes, many people here have them on keyrings, as bracelets etc, no, I don't have any, no I've never heard them being called scoobies.

Pfff, I'm in upper secondary school, we're to mature for stuff like that :P

Good God they are pathetic. So many people had them a while ago it was just stupid, eventually (being the bullies we sometimes are) me and a few mates went around taking them off people and just throwing them in the bin. Even some of the "'ardest" chavs were sitting there to me what looked like sewing.

They've died out now though :p

I thought people would be too mature, but loads of girls (and a couple of lads) in Year 11 are buying and "playing" with them.

Reminds me of sweatshop labor. Think of it, hundreds of crazy teens tying together strings.

Goddamn, I could make a profit off of it if it wasn't illegal.

This post doesn't make any sense.

Maybe a UK thing? never seen/heard of them here in the US.

I'm from the UK and never heard of scoobies until this thread **confused look on face**, it must be a southern UK thing :D

They were a huge trend here in Holland a half year ago. ALL little girls were showing them off to other little girls. My sister must've been one of the worst. She had like 10000 of those things in her room.

What are they?

If you were to ask me what a Scoobie was, i'd say you were referring to a Subaru Impreza, or a cartoon dog .... I wouldnt for a second think you were referring to a friendship bracelet.

I think that's a local trend you've got going in your village, Simon.

Hell I remember these things back when I was in primary school in Australia (1993)

oO ATM kids (primary school mostly, I think) in Poland are making those and carrying them around, at least in my city.

Seconded :)
They look like shag-bands, (remember shag-bands!?) except DIY and even worse.
And why're they called Scooby-doos?

EDIT: Wait, after looking at Reginald's post I think I have seen them before. But aaages ago.

Those ones started off as a symbol of either anti-racism or a charity. Now they're everywhere and mean nothing.

You people and your crazy little British Isles and your strange customs. Who would want to wear a piece of rubber around their wrist?

I was referring to the starter of the thread and his kind...

...but sure, you can have crazy British Isles, too. What part of South America?

Rubber? What is this "rubber" you speak of? Why sir, truly you are living in a golden age of flying contraptions and machines that warm the coldest of foods in times shaming that of our wooden fires.
Lordy, what devil's magic are you casting now, Steve!? :)
