Steam Help - 99% update - previuosly OK

G'day all,

I would very much appreciate assistance here, being a newcomer and not being particularly PC Savy.

* I purchased HL2 retail
* Got it going and was playing and at the butt end of the game (sensational gaming)
* Log onto the net and steam starts updating the game. It reaches 99% vs "Amount Acquired" + "Status" vs Requires Update".
* The "Automatic update" field changes from automatically update to do not automatically update this game over a few steam logins no impact either way. Currently in "Do not" status.
* therefore it is "not ready for offline mode"

I have had a look at Steam suggestions re "My download hangs at a certain percentage" which leads to the "how do I configure my router for my dedicated Server" solution......WTF?? surely this is some sought of joke.

There must some simple solution here. Should I just re-install it?? Do you need more info??

Help please.....mumma.....anyone.....

p.s. how good were the D.O.G. segments.....

Have you tried restarting steam? rebooting your computer? that fixed it for me.

Have you tried just starting the game? It'll run fine with 99%, most likely, and it'll spur it on to finish the download.

Cheers for the reply....I have done these things. I did not go into full details, but the first time it updated (after playing to near finish as stated earlier) it reached something like 66% complete (go figure) then a few attempts later to its present 99%.

I have tried starting the game as normal but as it is 99% complete it is not ready for "offline mode".

Will Jesus help me?

The smae thing happened to me some days a go. It got stuck at 87% 0or something, and I couldn't play any Steam games. I waited for two days, and then it worked.

I've actually waited a long time...logged on many times....it did update two or three times but never to 100%.

How do I manipulate the "automatic update" field to change it from "do not update" to "do update" this may help. (re the properties options)

Actually I justlogged in again and the "automatic update" field has changed to "always keep this game up to date" and It is no longer greyed out so I can change it to "do not automatically update this game"

Still.....this hasn't changed the 99% situation.

yeah, Steam is weird like that sometimes. I was stuck on 99% for about half a day once. Another reason why I hate Steam.
