The Stupidest Ticket Ever

so i got a ticket last night for going right on a green light. how? see the chart below:

so im driving down a road with a T intersection like that with a green light and i took it without stopping. now as you can probably figure out, i dont need to stop because with the way its set up im the only traffic coming towards that direction. i didnt whip around, i had my signal on, and yet now im stuck with a $50 ticket and im gonna get surcharged for seven years on my insurance. so does this make sense to anyone? did i really break the law or is this cop an asshole?
 
Why didn't you ask what the ticket was for...?? Surely he must have said? Are you deaf or something?
 
What did he specifically say the reason was?

yeah he said that i didnt stop at the light even though it was green.

I don't understand how you can make a thread asking us for your opinion on the situation when you leave out key details that everyone is just going to ask you anyway.
 
You must always stop at a T intersection regardless of traffic.

I'm not sure about that. I was always under the impression that you do not need to make a full stop at a green light, just yield to anyone who may run the red light. Of course, we're talking about a green light and not a green arrow.
 
I'm curious. Green infers specifically that you don't have to stop. Let us know what you find out.

The markings at a T-junction mean you have to stop. This is according to UK law btw, but I'm confident that American junctions would be the same because they're not retarded.

i have never stopped at a green light...it shouldn't matter that there wasn't a green arrow, it's a t junction so the horizontal road should have a red. i'd take it to court, something seems fishy.
 
Just go to court with it, I've done it several times without problem.
Explain to the judge what happened and see what he says. In most cases, the officer doesn't even show up, dismissing the case. Happened twice to me already.

That's ridiculous -- if it's green and a right turn you shouldn't have to stop, unless there's a sign posted that says otherwise.
 
In the US:

Same thing I was going to say. It should have had a sign that says 'must yield on green'. And even then, you don't stop unless there is a car coming.

There are different laws in different jurisdictions though.

In some jurisdictions you cannot turn right on a red light, ever. In other jurisdictions, you stop at the red light and you may go when it is clear.

I've never heard of being required to stop on green. Are you sure you weren't so high you got a ticket for stopping at a green light?
 
Was there anyone in the crosswalk? What exactly does the ticket say? What was your exact violation? My guess is that there was someone in the crosswalk and you didn't notice, and you were supposed to yield to them. And either the cop did not tell you what you did wrong, or you didn't listen.

I'm pretty sure here in Nova Scotia, Canada, you are not allowed to drive through a crosswalk until a pedestrian has completely crossed to the other side of the road. No one abides by this law, but hey, you might have been the unlucky bastard who gets screwed by it.

Also, I'm confident in saying that a citation will not screw over your insurance for 7 years, as tickets stay on your record for less than that; it's only accidents that last 7 years.
 
I stop at T intersections (one in particular) where I make a right turn all the time, even if it's green. I just plain old don't trust other ****in drivers.

I crushed a crow with my right-front tire on Sunday. I tapped my brakes in a lighthearted attempt to avoid, but I sure as hell wasn't slamming them on. My rotors are worth more than that crow's life.
 
I got a ticket not too long ago for driving without a license, and the car was parked. Engine was off. In a parking lot too.

I think mine might beat yours in terms of stupidity.

Ran over a pigeon on my bike the other week. I pedaled full bore into a giant crowd of the feathery ****ers, thinking "It'll be awesome, they'll all jump into the air at once and i'll be surrounded by them as a ride off into the sunset!"

And then I noticed they were all too lazy to fly and instead thought it'd be a good idea to WALK out of the way of my bike. Turns out pigeons can't walk all that quickly...

Either you had just driven or you were about to drive. I fail to see the stupidity, besides your own.
