One of the reason behind that may be that people enjoy things when it does cause loss of control. The one you explain, (browser hijack) takes control away from the veiwer, what makes them so god dang annoying. These actually may be better, because everyone has been RR at least once. i remember my first RR, and it's been permanetly engraved in my memory. In these, it brings back the memorys and IMO is kinda like... well, if you play some sort of mean joke but right before it happens you show him. It's like saying "I could have just caused you quite a bit of greif/anger/saddness right here, but I din't". It give a sort of "played into the trap" feeling.
