Top 5 Favorite Artists (Flavor of The Month, or Honorable Mentions Accepted.)

Haven't seen one of these threads in a while, so who is your top 5 favorite artists, or bands? Honorable Mentions, and flavor of the month are accepted.

Mine

  1. Alice in Chains
  2. Lamb of God
  3. Jackyl
  4. Pantera
  5. Eminem

my top 3, not in order:

boards of canada
nine inch nails
tv on the radio

after that it gets dicey, i couldn't in good conscience only choose two more, so here are what clock in for 4th and 5th:

led zeppelin
tool
radiohead
amon tobin
phish
carbon based lifeforms

It's impossible for me to choose an overall top 5 but at the moment mine are (not in order:
Jimmy Eat World
Modest Mouse
Pendulum
My Chemical Romance
Muse

Like I say, that's just at the moment and is definitely subject to change.

I guess;
Queen
Prince
Dropkick murphys
Some ACDC or Black Sabbath
Then I love some locals I'm sure none of you ever heard of.

Oasis
Beady Eye
Arctic Monkeys
The Wombats
Florence And The Machine
The Subways
Stereophonics

No order (well maybe a little)

Venetian Snares
The Flashbulb
Plaid
Orange Dust
Aphex Twin

califone
melt-banana
metro area
casino versus japan
alva noto
freescha
fennesz

shit, too many :x

these are pretty high up there but honestly i have thousands of favorites it seems..

honorable mentions:
william basinski
seefeel
the focus group (and ghostbox records)
afx

Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Dark Dark Dark

can't think of anything else to throw in to make 5

No order, and atm:

Aphex Twin
Chemical Brothers
Rx Bandits
Ratatat
Flying Lotus

It's too hard to pick overall best (for me). I can try:

RATM
Umphrey's McGee
Incubus
RHCP
Then a three way tie: Pink Floyd/A Perfect Circle/Pixies

(Honorary mention: Metallica)

You like live music sixteenth? My friends are constantly traveling all over the east coast to see Umphreys. I also hear Flying Lotus puts on a hell of a show.

Right now:

Boards of Canada (forever and always)
Astronautalis
Why?
Zero 7
Sufjan Stevens

My musical tastes have been leaning in odd ways lately.

David Bowie
Brian Eno
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Nine Inch Nails
Set Fire To Flames
Tom Waits
Frank Zappa

Hard to say. I tend to attach to albums much more than the artists or bands responsible, since much of their output tends to be very inconsistent, in either quality (as judged by myself :p) or even genre/style. I guess if I had to make a list of my favourites, it'd be the bands I've been most consistently interested in up till now without outgrowing them.

Deftones
Explosions in the Sky
Porcupine Tree
Isis
Pain of Salvation

That'll do.~

My Favorites as of now (much different than 6 months ago)

The Beatles
The Arcade Fire
Deadmau5
Daft Punk
Death Cab For Cutie

And just 6 months ago:

Nine Inch Nails
Devildriver
Killswitch Engage
Avenged Sevenfold
The Word Alive

I go through my phases and I still love all these bands, but lately happy music makes me much happier :)

I'm impressed to see so many Explosions in the Sky fans! I really do love their music but they don't yet fall into my top 5.
Also, @Warped: Yay for Death Cab For Cutie! Again, absolutely love their stuff but doesn't make the top 5 yet.

Really hard to say. In the last year I've listened the most to these five artist:

Tom Waits
Leonard Cohen
Led Zeppelin
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Bob Dylan

Other than that:
The Clash
The Kinks
The White Stripes
Pink Floyd
etc.

I have quite a few honorable mentions.

Led Zeppelin
Aerosmith
Beastie Boys
Black Sabbath
Collective Soul
Days of The New
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Metallica
Pearl Jam
Primus
R.E.M.
Sammy Hagar
Ted Nugent
Van Halen

I haven't heard of a lot of these bands. Maybe when I get some time later I'll look them up.

You like live music sixteenth? My friends are constantly traveling all over the east coast to see Umphreys. I also hear Flying Lotus puts on a hell of a show.

Yes I do. I actually just saw Umphrey's (probably 10th time) in December for their NYE run. They originated near Chicago so they're local favorites and I get to see them a bunch. I saw Pretty Lights the next day too. That was one helluva a week.

Flying Lotus also plays a great show. I've only seen him once (last April I think), but I would jump at another chance to see him again whenever he comes around Chicago.

Btw, you say your friends are usually on the east coast following Umphrey's.. I'm guessing they probably follow .moe too?

1. Bob Dylan
2. Radiohead
3. My Bloody Valentine
4. Neil Young
5. Bowie

Really tought to say. I attach a lot of meaning to indivual albums, so I think my list really comes down to, "Who makes music I like and can make a well rounded, flowing, quality album?" The answer would be:

Astronautalis - Pomegranate
Brand New - Your Favorite Weapon
CAKE - Fashion Nugget, Prolonging the Magic
Why? - Alopecia

After that, I'm just drawing from bands that make decent albums and excellent songs.

Bob Dylan
Johnny Cash
Journey
Ratatat
Radiohead

1. Bob Dylan
2. Beatles
3. Arcade Fire
4.Astronautilus
5.Modest Mouse

My tastes change rapidly, but these guys are always in rotation.

Joanna Newsom
Radiohead
Modest Mouse
Grizzly Bear

Honourable mentions for 5th:
Animal Collective
The Horrors
TV on the Radio
Arcade Fire

My favorite bands are always changing, but here's a top 5 of right now:

Kula Shaker
Flaming Lips
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Oasis
Blur

The Black Keys, St. Vincent and The Verve are climbing the charts, though

My top 5 for this year, because I honestly can't make a list of all time (in no order)

1. Grizzly Bear
2. Flying Lotus
3. Beach House
4. Arcade Fire
5. Cannibal Ox

Artists that were close to making it are Radiohead, Burial, Animal Collective and Why?

1. Porcupine Tree or anything else by Steven Wilson
2. Demians
3, 4 and 5. Some mix between Tool, Riverside, Muse and Pink Floyd I guess.

In no particular order

1 The Pixies
2 susumu yokota
3 Boards of Canada
4 Mogwai
5 The Auteurs

Ask me tomorrow and I'd probably come up with some different answers, however tonight fortune favours those 5.

Honourable mention to Girl Talk. I haven't included him because he's a mash up artist rather than a straight performer, however Night Ripper, Feed the Animals & All Day are all F'ing excellent albums esp for driving to.

Top 5 I'm listening to right now:

1 Carbon Based Lifeforms
2 Solar Fields
3 Ladytron
4 Daft Punk
5 Royksopp

Top 5 over the past week:

The Decemberists
Modest Mouse
Sufjan Stevens

Broken Social Scene

Close between Dappled Cities and Little Dragon

Nice one, Naph, for mentioning Wild Beasts! SO underrated!

In no order:

The Cure
The Velvet Underground
Rancid
Bob Marley
Led Zeppelin

1 Carbon Based Lifeforms
2 Solar Fields
<3

CBL is my favorite psybient, period (next is bluetech), and Solar Fields is great. Their song Das Bungalow is basically the greatest thing ever.
