Since there's only a few members who live in Vancouver proper (me and SixThree edit: and bman and lame-o), I thought it appropriate that I host a thread on the Games. Hahaha. Get it.

Inevitably there will be many threads on random events, so the purpose here is to gather them all up in one (HINT HINT MODS--I suggest merging Pedobear thread with this).

So if you have questions about the city or its people, where the events are etc., I'll answer them with as much knowhow and sarcasm as I possess.

And Stern if you start a new thread for every event or random comment on Canadiana I will come over to Toronto with a Honger posse and we'll rile you up good. No joke.

My predictions:

Canada wins gold for men's hockey but loses women's.

Norway dominates all events involving pieces of wood strapped to feet on a slope.

No one shows up for biathlon, including even the judges. Competitors end up shooting each other; sole survivor gets gold.

USA will be gung-ho until they drop below second place in medals, then will pretend they didn't care for winter games all along.

Someone ends up eating our city hall's goat, Gregor Robertson goes on a murderous, bike-borne rampage.

Opening ceremony is tomorrow, or tonight for you Europe'ens.

I approve.

Just watched the fireworks at LiveCity Yaletown from my balcony.

Excuse me? I live near Vancouver! *South surrey* I'm going to see the 2nd medal ceremony with Paul Brandt playing. Any of you going to that?

Surrey slut!
Pretty much.

I was going to mention you and Naudian and what's his name your friend on this forum, but then I thought that was going a bit off topic.

Plus, you know, your not living here.

I want to watch Judo but they never show it on TV.

**** the Olympics.

We have a local athlete competing in the downhill skiing events, other than that I'll be watching the hockey and snowboarding shit

The only thing I look forward to is Sweden defending it's hockey gold. Maybe I'll watch some skiing highlight too, who knows.

I'm looking forward to... *throws dart at a poster* ... Curling!

****, I hate curling.

Funny, the first year I'm not in Vancouver and the ****ing olympics are there. BTW I used to live in Maple Ridge, yeah.

I'm looking forward to the biathlon this year, they will be filming the bang bang parts with a high speed camera, should be interesting.

Georgian Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili has died from his injuries in a luge crash.

Shit sucks. Deaths aren't cool at the olympics. They're not even the winter olympics.

Ininjured my ass.

The pic posted above is from a different crash, in his fatal one he got thrown out of the track and into an unprotected steel support. Like holy shit how fast was he going and how can that even happen?

Really? D:

Involved in two crashes? Man... :(

EDIT: Oh god... I just watched the video... no way he could have survived that... shit. I hope nobody else has accidents on the track :(

Why can't they have the tracks made so that if they get flung... they get flung at a shallow angle against the track and they're still sliding down the track and not slamming into ****ing STEEL BEAMS!

Crap, didn't even realize it was starting already... gonna go watch the rest of the opening ceremony.

[edit] Oh nevermind looks like it hasn't even started yet.

I made a bad joke; it was so bad that I decided it should be deleted immediately.

Good singer, didn't like that rendition of the anthem though.

Well now you just made me curious what it was.

Do countries always march in at the beginning? It makes sense, but for some reason I feel like it used to be at the end, so you didn't actually have to sit through it.

I'm waiting for the ceremonial seal clubbing.

Oh god I hate opera singing voices SO GOD DAMN MUCH.

The tears it drives me to are from pain, not emotion.

I actually have photos of the torch going by my house on the coast, but my parents are in most of them... I'll see what I can provide.

They're on the other comp so if you want ArmA anytime soon you'll just sit there and be a silent Bessie.

Love how they managed to screw up the in-stadium torch lighting.

hey VIPER, I live in Vancouver too... u best edit your first post asap :P

anyway, thought the opening was great overall
I especially liked the speech from the guy who grew up in the Northwest Territories... I've forgotten his name unfortunately

gotta say though, feeling damn proud to be Canadian AND from Vancouver right now :)
GO CANADA GO!

Looks more like an encapsulated illegal substance to me.
