Hl2:ep2 will get a very hard diffuculty setting (thank god). Does anyone know if hl2 and ep1 will get them too in the orange box? I really hope so because they are way to easy.

I dunno, for some reason HL2 for me on hard, is being way too hard. 60 damage from one bullet, that kind of hard.

HL1 for example was more difficult and the avarage skills off the players are much higher than 9 years ago.

HL1 was dumb in terms of difficulty, though. There's something silly about ramping up the health of the Marines so that they turn into bullet absorbers.

Agreed. A marine who can take two cross bow bolts to the face and only get a slight limp deserves to live.

True, but having less Health / Armour in the dispensers wasn't a bad idea. I'm surprised they got rid of it.

alien slaves shooting faster and the black chicks being invisible made HL1 on hard unique

Invisible Enemies + Paint Pot Physics Prop = Instant Clever Gravity Gun Tactic.

Surprised I haven't seen it done already.

Those black ops (?) were really challenging to fight. Always trowed all my hand granades and planted those laser bombs everywhere. Now the fast zombies are the most challenging enemy's (don't count the big ones) but the Civil protection and the soldiers are way to easy and are moving to less. At least some more health and more bullet damage for them would help.

Very hard

Did anyone else find that the assassin fights are one of the rare times they use the SMG in HL? It's quite useful for dealling with them because of the spread and grenades.

Not really, a single crossbow bolt dispatches them easily without any harm to the player.

It's often hard to hit a fast, skinny, invisible, superjumping woman with a single crossbow bolt :P

No, I used the SMG constantly.

I used the MP5 all the time. For the Assassin battles, I used the Magnum.

invisible gunships? holy shoit, that would be hard, how do you rpg somehimg thats half hidden? and very hard steeing is good, the campaign is wayyyy too easy, even when i degrade may weapons. but having a mob of enemies is not fun, so it can only get so hard before getting stupid. invisible emies would be more challenging, but bouncing the crossbow would still own them.... the storyline should get tricyer too, the puzzles are too easy, they should confuse you for like half an hour.

You wouldn't even need to 'paint' an invisible gunship using the paint-grav-gun tactic I proposed. They're always firing on you and the rockets, so it's always pretty obvious where they are.

Half-Life wasnt hard at all, as a matter of fact i have yet to play a game that gives me trouble. A fps that is.

Anyway good idea on the paint and the invisible enemies.

Is it confirmed there will be a harder setting btw? I remember reading in a interview they might do it.

The preview of the Orange Box guide specifically mentions difficulty settings... and has no mention of a 'Very-Hard Difficulty' setting. I say it's probably not in. Disappoint I suppose, but on the bright side, previews do seem to assert that the AI puts up a better fight than before, and that Hunters are particularly challenging (and seem to have superseeded Soldiers in many scenes). And then there is Portal with its wealth of advanced challenge modes...

Alternately, Valve might not have decided to put in a separate "ROCK ON" difficulty level. They might have simply rebalanced the existing difficulties.

The PC Gamer review remarked that the Combine soldiers are still the weakest enemies in the game.

Tried playing Minerva on hard?

Foster customized the .cfg, and it feels like the upcoming fourth difficulty. Headcrabs do around 25 damage per bite, and the combine soldier weapons have the player's own damage values.

Man it was challenging.

1. They need to stop playing on easy.

2. Birds are the weakest npcs in the game :naughty:
