I hope this is on topic enough, but, I've really been excited about Manhunt for ps2 to come out and I was checking out their web site. They have sound clips from the game, and there are some with a girl (who is one of the main characters, a reporter) and for the longest time I couldnt tell who she sounded like (but i KNEW she sounded like someone) then one day I realezed she sounded like Alyx. Im still not sure so go check it out for yourself http://www.rockstargames.com/manhunt/
Mabie I was just halucinating because I wanted to know who the voice was so badly.
And if it isn't Alyx........then good lord who is it?!?!??!!?

Again, Im not sure if this has enough to do with hl2 to be in this forum. Sorry if it isnt.

why not give Valve a bell and ask them, she's probably some voice actress from an agency, they may have just listened to a few clips of past work and taken her and any others on to do the voices including some of the original "cast" apparantly.

Edit: Just don't get your hopes up that she looks the same, she may do. But most probably middle age and blonde with six kids or something heh

What you should do is hunt down every member of the cast and make a website with their character faces and their real ones. Add the other work they've done and so on.. Thats if their professional though, its possible Valve just got friends and family to do the voices, Maybe Kliener is Gabe's dad? heh never know :)

Be interesting if you did that, post a url if you do :)

I'd swear blind that Trent from Freelancer and Fox Mc'Cloud from StarFox Adventures were voiced by the same person.

EDIT: Hey, I can't see!!!

I'd say the acting is pretty good so I doubt that it's friends or family. Kleiner is played by one of the guys that did the voices for the HL1 scientists.

Post some URLs to those sound files you're on about, I can't find them.

It really just depends on the voices, and who's running the show, sometimes friends and family can be really good in parts, a lot of short animated films go the friends route and seem really professional. Those who are still at school and doing their mods can involve the whole school on it if they wanted, most teachers would like the idea of something creative being done by school kids, and if there's a large drama section they'd love the chance, and its free too so those teams without money to spend on their mod development wont be left struggling with bad voices (depending on the school I guess though heh)

I find a good place to get non professional but great voices, on the cheap. Are drama schools. Lots of students there with all kinds of ranges love doing stuff like this, often for free cause it can look good on their resume

European voices always have that impressive edge aswell, Especially certain Swedish accents, really work well IMO. African accents work well for slightly posh dialects. Female voices are pretty easy to get, join a shows fan based chatroom and there's usually a good selection of women in their 30's/40's bored all day stuck at home and almost always have microphones and up for a laugh (don't ask why they have microphones, you might not want to know ;);)) I used to be able to get all sorts that way, french canadian, american, swedish, german (female german accents mmmmmmm) So long as your friendly with them first, take a few months to get to know everyone so your excepted there then 9/10 nobody minds helping out

I've plans to try get Jon Culshaw to do a few on mine, a Director friend knows him so that would be fun, no doubt I'll end up asking for a Tom Baker style voice *grins*. I also plan on asking John Hurt, his voice would be great for the narration.

Course the best one, and I really hope I get this, is to have Brian Blessed playing the part of one of the major King's in the story, bit cliche I know, but he fits the character perfectly and has an amazing voice. The misc characters will have to be filled up with non pro's otherwise its gonna get waaaaaaaaaay too expensive to do lol

Course thats all toward the end when there's 98% of it to prove its serious, no point doing all that right now, can get it all done bar the dialogue and then drop that in where its needed and fix the lip synch and jobs a good un

notice no mention of me doing any voices.. not in a million years! haha. Might do creature effects myself though, good at growls and snarls just after I've woken up and before the first coffee and cig of the day :D

I can do pretty good weird voices. I used to do Steve Urkel really well... but then my voice broke.

Got any characters with really weird voices, Fenric? I'll do it frreeeeeee!

If you'll put me in the credits:E.

Adam from these forums can do some good impersonation of HL/2 characters.

i made a wave of me talking like a girl to a gordon that my friend swore i stole from the code... lolz

anyhow, aren't the models all based on real people that they scan? i've seen the process done before... i mean, it's really hard to free model a face, more likely they scan some really hot chic (whole body) and make some minor adjustments (hair, skin tone, bust size.. you know the good stuff)

anyone have insight on the full process valve is using?

anyone who does anything on it automatically gets credits. I'm a credit hound and always put them in stuff :D Having a really long credit list for voice actors just can't help but look cool and professional :) They'll also be a what I imagine large section of the credits thanking a good deal of people on this forum for all kinds of help

As for weird voices.. well considering all the various types of creatures within the game/world. There's probably tons. I plan on only having the main game characters with professionally done voices, but there's so many others that are equally as important, as in they will need some voice atleast.. Course for the most part I wont let on just who or what someone is doing a voice for. Would risk spoiling the game for them, and it'll be fun for them to just be playing it one day and suddenly hear themselves talking without warning heheh

Something I have been planning too, and I think I mentioned this quite a while back, is giving everyone the chance to get their faces in the game at some point. Lots and lots of human characters need to look individual. I saw how popular things like the HL1 techdemo avatar thing was, and how successful the Codename gordon freeman name inclusion thing was and thought it would be a fun thing to do. Not doing it yet though, lots of work before all that needs to be worried about but its certainly something I'd like to do, give everyone a chance to be a small part of it, then they can play it and see if they can find themselves in the game, like where's waldo heh

has he got them online anywhere? I'd love to hear them

No he was doing it in a HL DM server he set up once.

the real question is: will there be some sort of action key that allows me to molest alyx? nothing too extreme, just a little 'grab-ass', as it were. i wouldn't be opposed to getting slapped in retaliation. i'm all about the realism.

ok well...to get to the sound files you have to sort of go through this maze of stuff.

First go to the Click Here to Enter thing.
Then a little loading kind of thing comes up.

K..then it will have some views of hallways or somthing. You have to move your mouse over certian spots to go to the next screen.

Theres no real set way of doing it because I think it starts on a different thing ever time.

Anyway...just keep searching through the "halls" untill you find one with like a picture of one of those Radio needle things. Like that shows Amps or power voltage. Its usually around one of the corners of the screen, it might be a little dark untill you highlight it. Those are the sound files. Most of them I've herd are the girl talking to like a therapist kinda guy.

Best to listen to this with headphones on to get the best sound.

Some one please tell me if it sounds like Alyx to you too.....it's killing me because now Im not sure.

Meh, doesn't really sound like her to me.

that site scares me :<
