Warhammer Online- an update...

What's that supposed to mean? The target audience is people already fans of the setting? Or just people who prefer their fantasy generic?

It means that its not targeted at people who don't like it, move along.

And you know fine its targeted at fans of the setting or they wouldn't use it.

Likewise Warhammer fantasy is like 30 odd years old, of course its generic its partly to thank for creating the genre in the first place. Warcraft came out of a failed attempt to make a Warhammer game.

Wow, so a fantasy game fits into the fantasy genre, well **** me sideways!.

Warcraft is just as unoriginal as Warhammer. As are many of the oldest D&D settings. They're all far too samey. The same orcs, same dwarves, same elves, same boring crap.

And age isn't an excuse. There are unique, interesting fantasy settings older than Warhammer.

Generic as in nothing setting it apart from the genre. Do you think being indistinguishable from the herd is a good thing? The only reason the setting is well known is because of the game.

Read here. It's all about Realm versus Realm combat. Instead of focusing on raids and arenas like WoW, Warhammer (and DaoC before it) focus on epic persistent scenario battles over territory and specific objects.

It actually sums it up well:

Skirmish RvR is basic open world PvP combat, the foundational function of RvR. It's: "I go into one of those areas where we can RvR. I see a bad guy. We hit each other with our sticks 'till one of us dies." Simple and straightforward, players will be rewarded experience, loot and renown from successful skirmish fights, but will not reward you or your side as much as engaging in other kinds of RvR.

So like... EVERY OTHER MMO... AGAIN.

I don't care if it's "FUN". They are all the same and I'm sick of nobody going to the next step up. There is so much potential in MMOs but they always boil down to the same old crap.

I feel the same way about this genre but Ill take what we have and as long as its FUN Im happy for now! All good things in time my friend unless there is some magic wand out there that I dont know about that will magically make current MMO's exactly what we want them to be right now!

I have hopes that the KOTOR mmo breaks some molds.

Already pre-ordered. If anyone wants to start a character together when Open Beta comes out, PM me or catch me on Steam.

By the way, I'm not rolling anything other than Greenskin for the time being :p

i'm loving the fact that you can level up purely through PvP if you feel like it, although pve will likely be a bit faster. it's nice having the option though when i'm bored of grinding.

Wait so after all the trolling and the blind hate, you pre order.

Ok.

I specifically remember Pesh posting something along the lines of "lol, wow 2.0, no thx." Maybe it wasn't Pesh. Hard to remember when wading through all of those kind of posts. Sorry.

Yah now that the NDA is no longer....Ive been reading some player reviews of this game and its sounds epic! Im so pumped for the open beta and beginning of this game and the loss of many hours of my life. Thank god the summer is over and the cold cloudy stay in doors and game days are ahead!

I've been playing beta for a few days now, an I love it. Public quests are my new favorite thing. Also, I love the RVR. Inevitable City has made it to lvl 2 on my server, but i've yet to actually go to the capital city. I wonder how epic it will be in person.

edit: and anybody who is already playing, i'm currently having fun with my Dark Elf Sorceress by the name of Espre.
edit2: I'm on Barak Varr

Ding dong, the NDA is dead. Yay!

So, yeah. Um. It's pretty good.

I need more ram.

That is all.

I've only been playing for about a week and, like I said, I need more ram to run it properly (running under minimum specs), so I haven't exactly formed a decent opinion of it. It definitely seems fun though, and it's certainly polished enough for an MMO that isn't even out yet. A few bugs and missing things here and there, but mostly awesome compared to the usual shambles an MMO launches in now.

The only complaint I could level at it from my experience is that solo PvE is perhaps not it's strong suit, gets a little bit boring, at least in the early stages. But then that isn't meant to be it's focus, so there you go. There's PQs for impromptu group questing, you can jump into scenarios (instanced PvP battlegrounds) from anywhere on the map, and each zone has a dedicated RvR zone for open-world conflict. On top of that, any PvP you do is going to give you XP, so there's never really a sense of "grind before fun" like in other MMOs. You just do whatever, whenever really, and it seems to flow quite nicely from one thing to the next.

So yeah, all in all not regretting my purchase, but I wouldn't expect the second coming of MMOs either. A few areas could still use some work, but then that's always the case at this stage in an MMO's lifespan, so I'm not worried. It's fun, that's enough for now.

Looking forward to playing it during the preview weekend this weekend. Got my client downloaded so I'm ready to go! :p

I'm fairly certain I'm going to be playing a black orc in the preview/beta and in the official release as well.

The only thing that is turning me off is apparently it doesn't take much too reach end game. Some people have described it as "very fast." So... :\

Wouldn't be surprised, although it's been a decent slog just to get to level 10 on my Disciple, so I'd say there's a little bit of grinding to be had. That said the focus is meant to be on end game and conquering territory/sieging cities/raiding dungeons etc, so the XP climb might be a bit lighter than usual.

Mmm... sexy Dark Elf lady...

edit:

Since this thread is entitled "Warhammer Online- an update"

I figured it would be appropriate to include some of the updated information. For those of you who are not receiving the monthly newsletter, all of that information can be found here

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58504

The newsletter includes information about game pricing, game card details, preorder program details, and a couple pretty cool videos, including the cgi that Bad^Hat has posted.

Some of you may be following the game and know that the Preview Weekend is coming up. 50,000 lucky people will be able to get a sneak peek at the game this coming weekend. Soon after that, the Open Beta period should be starting. For those of you who are anticipating entering the fray, there is a handy UI guide that will make it easy for you to understand what you are seeing on the screen... if you aren't the type to take the time to look at everything and figure out what it does...

This should make it easy to just jump into the game and know what you are looking at.

Maybe you'd just like to see what kind of cool gear and quests are in the game before you actually try it. Just like wowdb.com, Curse.com presents www.wardb.com

Awesomeness definitely gonna give this a read, since I was one of those lucky 50k of course!

You can patch your client and actually log in now to view the servers at least! :p I plan on choosing "Mad Dog Pass" server just because I like the name, hehe.
