well, i've been a serious gamer for about 3 years now, yea i'm pretty young but i realized something, there are a ton of new commercials out for video games than there were not too long ago, i mean if the second deus ex can grab a primetime airing when the first one was kind of just an underground hit, it's obvious developers are spending much more money on raw marketing than they have been doing in the past.

so i was thinking what would an hl2 commercial be like?

Well, the HL2 logo would appear on the screen for 50 seconds, then this message would appear for 9:
I think that's all that needs to be said.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA :E

Half-Life 2 logo for 25 seconds...Coming soon..when it's done....HL2 logo 25 more seconds...evil laugh of Gabe (jp)

man, that'd be so slick, yea i would really prefer that they do a subtle execution, like all the other action game commercials are all like big explosions and special effects, hl2 would break the monotony with its coolness

I don't know, I think that would be awesome b/c it would provoke interest in the viewers--or intrigue them. "What's that game all about that they don't even show me what it looks like?" You know? Then they come here and see all the media and get blown out of their seat and through a wall.

It will show some parts of the E3 videos and will be like Half-Life 2, Coming Soon. :)

but then again, part of my head is telling me that it's kinda useless to make commercials for hl2, the game is so much more popular than so many other upcoming and out fps, so it might just be a waste of time and money to organize a commercial....

hey, someone should like e-mail lombardi asking about it, he's the guy that deals with marketing and stuff right?

I think it would be just like the e3 2004 teaser, nothing more, nothing less...

yea, brazooka's got the most realistic prediction, but still, lets say your watching tv, and out of nowhere the lambda symbol comes up and then vanishes just as fast, then says something like coming july 14, that'd be sweet

Yea that would definitely bring a lot of customers... as long as they have a release date.... Plus, they already have HL2 ads in PCGamer mag (June)? with a white lambda symbol and black background. No text...except for the fine print at the bottom fo the page saying 2004 Valve corporation and whatnot... No release date though.. :frown:

its very expensive(probably like 2 million bucks for a 30 sec. preview) but, it would probably increase the chance of more ppl checking it out.

if they were trying to advertise during the super bowl...

My HL2 comercial: blank black screen and you are looking through the eyes of someone with scratched glasses, his vision keeps blurring in and out, he scans his surroundings (a dock, he is still lying down) then he looks to his right (still through glasses) and you see a crowbar...then you see his orange arm (hazard suit) reach it, and when grasp's it, the screen goes black and the lambda is shown for 10 secs. then the words "summer" are shown. Wheres my emmy.

i remember never seeing PC game commercials back in the day, back when HL was first released i found out about it from a Sierra coming soon magazine that use to get sent to my house all the time.

I wouldn't expect to see a commercial for HL2. HL2 has enough popularity with the PC crowd. A lot of PC gamers spend their time browsing the Internet or reading PC mags. So Valve will advertise mostly on web sites and mags.

Plus it wouldn't be smart for Valve to do a subtle TV ad with just the HL2 logo as most of the world would not know what that is. Thats right...like it or not, most people in the world do not own a computer and would have no idea what this logo is. They would need to show some type of gameplay.

Also, most gamers out there are console gamers (have an old PC or dont have one at all). Advertising HL2 to them will not help that much. They will see the ad and be like "WOW, this game looks awesome!......PC only?!" Expect to see a HL2 commercial when it comes out for XBOX (same with Doom3), as Microsoft will front tons of money for them.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to see a HL2 commercial but I would rather see Valve put that money into HL3.

I saw a Warcraft III comercial in a theater awhile back, that was pretty cool, but i dont think VALVe will go that far...

That'll be awesome if theres an HL2 commercial! I think there should be just a lot of gun fire, cool music, then at the end show the HL2 logo sayign something like "are you ready?" my opinion, think itll be cool.

I'm with Chapstick.
There would and should be no Half-Life 2 commercial, simply because HL2 is already hyped up enough.

Medal of honours Jap game had a good commercial....

*glistening sparkly water*

*all hell breaks loose, Zeros bombing pearl harbour and guy shooting them down*

"welcome to paradise soldier!"

:smoking:

30 second ads cost up to 2.5m USD or even more during super bowl....

I'de prefer a black screen with the logo then 'Half Life 2, Coming Soon..'

Somekind of G-man intro would be nice. Or a subtle flash of the lambda logo mixed with some gameplay.
