What does the title Half-Life mean?

I cant be sure, but to me it seems like it could be refering to Gordon's life, a half-life you could say, as in he doesnt really lead a full one. He is not in control of his own destiny. Rather, G-Man, in an Iago-like fashion, uses Gordon for his own means. This presents an interesting view on what free will is, how it can be judged and what is the importance of it. Also, if this is the case, it would support a theory of Aftermath's GMan angry quote which has lead some to speculate Gordon some how disobeys GMan, or does somethig Gman does not expect/want. What do you all think?

Uh this has been discussed before, its definition means somthing chemical related.

Well yeah, I knew about that, but what does the scientific definition have to do with the game? I doubt they would arbitrarily name their game after somthing which is not germane to it.

Yeah well, that's the case. Originally the game was called Quiver, and now it's called Half-life. It sounds cool, it's scientific and it's interpertable, which leads to these cases of people thinking VALVe are actually smarter than they are. Which, if that was their intention, makes them even smarter than they think they are. Or something like that.

Im glad they went with HL, not quiver. And I do confess I dont really know much about this site so I apologize for bringing up somthing already covered. Its a pretty sweet forum though =D

I think Quiver was just what they called the prodject before they had a real name for it.

Very possible, very possible.

It would have been a better name. Just look at how bullsquids -quiver- before they die!

Wheras the only half-life is that of the radioactive waste you have to avoid at some parts.

It related to the radioactive decay constant which is represnted by lambda which is the name of the complex and the symbol on the suit which vaguly resembles a crowbar. And of course decay is related to radiation.

Why do you think the lambda symbol is on the suit? I think it the 11th suit or something like that.

That's one possibility. They may also have been developed in the lambda complex for Xen exploration and is now being borrowed out to the other departments in BMRF.

That is the reason. Also i believe that the way the lambda facility being like a different/separate part of the BMRF, holds alot of clues to the story of the game.
