NO!
Half Life 2 doesn’t resemble Half Life’s atmosphere. By the end of the game you are left stunned by the way it feels and plays like a whole new game, not a sequel. The grim cityscape feels too open and plays out way to differently to HLs claustrophobic indoor environments.
The characters are clever, but not mysterious enough. Their perfected emotions and motions all play well, but give you too many impressions and they don’t act mystical and mysterious like the original HL characters. You have sussed them out to quickly.
The gravity weapon and open-ended gameplay mechanics give you too many options. You get confused as to where and how to complete a section. When the combine forces come in after you, you will not know when or how to stop them, because the amount of options available, confuses the way you play.
This could also connect with the way you have to work out puzzles. Again there will be many ways to work them out, maybe so many available, your left stuck and asking for help. You might also have to go back to an area to work out a puzzle because someway blocks you from entering, then there will be too many things to pass and find.
What if as you enter an area of enemy forces and friendly soldiers, the good forces do all the work for you and leave you to play with them doing all the work. And even if they don’t, what if there just to play out as an act of bait and get killed, why you do all the work. Wont it seem to fake for such a hyped game?

This is one viewpoint of Half Life 2. Let this rest in your minds while I complete the YES! It will live up to the hype section. Cheers for reading guys. Lol.

haha nice way to look at it, hl2 is going to be so much less linear than hl :)

I'm positive it will, and saying the personages aren't mysterious enough is weird, because if the g-man isn't mysterious, I dont know it anymore..

What are you talking about?

I thought we had just about enough indoor claustrophobic games this year...*cough*Riddick*cough*Far cry indoors*cough*Doom 3*cough*

I'm tired of indoor dark games - I want something fresh.

Agreed. Half-Life 2 will suck.

I just don't believe that you said that. ;(

you loved HL2 more than your girlefriend, what the hell happend to you. Don't let NOOBS just like Black Mesa corp affect you ;(

It was meant to be funny. The complete ridiculousness of someone with my post count on a half-life 2 forum saying that, is just so crazy it couldn't be true!!

Boredom and tedium is begining to hold sway.

I pointed my sarcasm detector at that and it broke...

Just as I was on my way to the Patent office too...

Let´s spell it together shall we? E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N!

I dont get why people need to start another thread to flame something new about a game we have not even seen yet.
As soon as I first saw G man or Alyx I realized thats this is going to be perhaps even better than the first one.
Valve wouldn´t let a game out in the name of Half Life2 if it didn´t give you the same or double amount of goose bumps, caused by the incredable story, the real feeling when you play it etc!

People need to relax themselves instead of spreading the less funny emotions to the rest of the people.

/D

Too confusing? You won't know what to do because of the options available to you? Bah, highly unlikely. If you really feel that way, I'm sure you could make a mod that puts big giant red arrows in that point to your objectives.

Having seen firt-hand what Valve were able to do with CS in CS:S, there's not a doubt in my mind that HL2 will, in fact, exceed our expectations.

Why it will not "suck", but also not be what everyones making it out to be.

Every day I picture the hardcore fanboys going to HL2.net before any other site on the internet when the wake up. Before school, before work, etc. Looking for that gold statement. Since it's not here yet, they watch all their HL2 binks, look at screenies they've seen one million times before, and then go talk about HL2 in the forums. Problem is, they've created all these fantastical ideas, all these super ridiculous ideas that they think will be integrated into gameplay. We're still talking about a video game here. And it's being made by human beings. These fanboys had a whole year (since the delay) to build and build and build this huge vision into their minds of what HL2 will be. No game could live up to that now. Now thats for those particular people.

The people the game will be amazing for is the people who haven't indluged in screenies, and binks, and the HL2 beta release. It's going to be good for the people who know it's a sequel the HL. Not the bible. The people who havent fantasized for hours upon hours about how "god damn amazing holy f.ucktastic evolutional son of a gun jesus reborn" HL2 will be.

It's all relative. If you've built your hype waay to high. HL2 will not live up, no game will. As you've been unrealistic with your ideas.

If you've been mellow about HL2 coming out, and calm waiting for Valve to release to actually see it and play it to determine how good it is. You will be very happy.

It all depends on who you are and how you're looking at things.

hes basicly just crying because he knowns he cant beat a game with more than 1 path, hes a linear noob.

and how the hell can more than 1 option confuse you? that makes it like so much easier....

Some people will like taking the easy road (Straight on, bam bam), and other's will prefer the more technical, sneaky road.

I'll probably be combining the both with a bit of architecture

I'm playing through Deus Ex 1 for the 102848483th time in Realistic and some parts still amaze me, I'll be quite amazed by HL2 since right now, my hype meter is at about 2 and this isn't because of delays or anything...it's just a game. I will buy the day it comes out and I'm sure it will amaze me since I haven't played any latest gen games yet (maybe cept for ut2k4, although I'm still waiting for my gfx card to see just how good the graphics are). I think some people just need to de-hype themselves, like find something else to do.

Getting dressed and tying your shoelaces must be a day chore for you right? :P

Yes it will. Most HL fans are so fanaticle that anyone who say's it's not FANTASTIC will be flamed out of existance.

I think the game will excell in most areas but fall in others. I think having industructable vehicles is a bad thing. I would prefer more standard kinds.

I also think the revamped turrets are amazing. & that you have to tip them over is AMAZING too. So. This game will probably suprise us in places we weren't even looking.

You can always count on solid MP too. So I don't see how you could go wrong.

Hey look guys i posted this thread because its interesting. I dont really mean it and think it atall and most of the information will not be true. Dont get offended, i didnt mean it like that.

How do you know, you haven't even played the game yet. You are already making assumptions on a game you basically know nothing about yet. You know pretty much what Valve lets you know. I personally perceive a game very differently after I play it than before and I am willing to bet, most people do...

you're absolutely right...I've always thought about this as well...
I won't know whether to
1. shoot them with my weapon,
2. blow them up with a nade or
3. throw something at them with my manip gun...

It's too much to handle mentally, I agree...Valve should take this into consideration when they're squashing bugs and tweaking the game...We gamers simply don't have the intelligence that it will take to play HL2...they've made it way to hard for us...

... Ok. Tell me you're kidding, right? How many threads are there on this?! Everyone agrees sooner or later that some will love it or some will hate it. And all you extremists (Both sides), if you want to argue your point to the end of existance that HL2 will rule (Or, indeed, suck):

Go stand in front of a mirror or go talk to your mummy, because I, for one don't want to look at the "Half life 2 discussion thread" And find that my modem blows up! It's un-nessescary.

By the way, HL2 will rule! :P

Yeah. We should have a large database of previously discussed threads to read for yourself. Your trying to raise your post count, not give to the community.

Have you actually played the game yet?
