I have a P4 3ghz, 512 ddr ram, asus gforce 5700, and some asus motherboard........

in HL DM i have like 120 when it doesnt have to work on anything, but as soon as theres more than 2 people it drops to 20-60 frames........

i have all settings on low and i even tweaked it a little.... Is the game just totally crap made from the devlopers so you cant just get a little couple of normal frames

Since the majority have no such problems. I think its safe to say it ain't the developers, its your setup.

What res you running it at?

Drivers ALL updated (not just your gfx card mobo sound card everything)

i know a guy who has a geforce 6800 he says he get shit frames also....ive also heard something about that HL2 works better with any ati card
is that true or?

it works better, but its not tweaked to work better on ati

I'd blame the GFFX.

I thought, there will be someone who will blame the GPU, cause it's something below FX5900 and all those X800 and 6800.

Topic maker, I run HL2, HL2DM and CS:S on 2,8Ghz Pentium (533FSB), 256 RAM and GF4MX440 and the game is definitely playable, so your rig should run it very well. Maybe a software problem.

Yeah I believe there are threads about this out there already. Use the search feature.

i have a 3.2ghzp4,1gbddr2 ram and a 256mb x800xt and it plays shit for me too,fps is about 40,even when i play on autodetected settings i get shit frames, drops into the 20s alot, dont even bother playing it anymore

I've got a laptop with the same specs (only a GF Go5700 64 MB) and HL2/HL2DM run fine with everything on medium, reflect world water, high detail shadows @ 1024x768.

Are you talking about playing online? It could be somthing to do with the transfer of information when someone comes into view.

I had crap rates playing on LAN, until I turned off my firewall and virus scan. Then it was fine.

My rig:
2.4Ghz AMD
1GB average Dual DDR
All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 Pro
6Mbps DSL (yeah, it's not part of my rig, but I like to brag)

Oh, yeah, I run with full details at 1024 and it's very decent. The game play is so good I haven't bothered to make any changes.

I have just about the same rig - only with a 6800GT instead - I can't be bothered with this game anymore.
FPS drops are just too damn extreme - unplayable.

Funny thing is, offline it runs like a dream - online, forget it (and no, it's not the servers I'm on)

Has anyone ever thought to check for spyware viruses etc.? I've seen TONS of that sht last 2 years, and lately it's been extremely bad.

Have to run firewall, but it might be worth trying without firewall, etc. Make sure PC is clean and patched up and try with and without firewall.

(If you dont' have a firewall, I can almost guarantee you have adware/spyware/viruses. Probably lots.)

My specs are no where near excellent, and I had a fairly decent online experience, though I don't usually play online.

It occurs to me that people who post "framrate/quality" problems and blame the developer in the FIRST POST should get a console. The idea is to be amicable and maybe learn a thing or two along the way.

im talkin about the SINGLEPLAYER in my post not mp,hl mp is even worse

I have a GeForce FX 5600 and It runs pretty good for me. Must be my A64-FX
