Yes, they are. They're the female contigent of that faction- and although it's debatable as to whether they're merely an elite branch of the US military or the G-man's personal fodder or a generic governmental special forces group I'd bet that they're not Combine troops.

In Opposing Force, there were males and females.
They have cool cloaking equipment and do ninja stuff too...
The females were generally more stealthy, attacking with silenced pistols and running all over the place. The males were a bit more clumsy, fighting with snipers, submachine guns, etc.

Just forget the idea of the Black Ops coming in to kill the normal military. It was an utterly retarded idea that Gearbox came up with in order for the player to have some new enemies to fight.

In HL1 you have the super secret military come in to wipe up in Black Mesa (face it, you couldn't use standard troops to kill unarmed civilians in your own country). HL1 assassins in black were part of that. So then you have the super super super secret military to come in and kill the crappy super(x1) secret military?! It's like something a 5 year old would come up with.

Maybe if Gearbox had made another expansion for HL1 they would have had big anime-style mech robots coming in to wipe out the Black Ops.

They where probably sent by another Organizason to blow BM up (they do plant a Atom Bomb in it, in oppforce) And Opposing Force the name really tells is "OPPOSITE, FORCE"= the Black Ops.

Its true. Without playing Opposing Force you would simply assume that they were working alongside the normal grunts.

Especially how after you kill them you walk through a door and get KO'd by some grunts - leading to the Residue Processing AKA Pie Machine level.

In Opposing Force, the friendly grunts recognise them as Black Ops, so I think it would be fair to say that the normal military would know or work with the Black Ops.

The military may not have given the Black Ops any orders to kill the grunts, but they may have a corrupt leader or just be rather violent characters. Or maybe they thought the grunts were too dumb so they decided to get them out of the way.

Precisely. If the Govt have to kill one army because they might tell all, then they've obviously got another army they trust not to tell anyone anything. Logic = use that army in the first place.

Or perhaps the government would just keep killing its own forces with l33ter and l33ter divisions, until eventually GMan just goes around bludgeoning all the soldiers to death with his briefcase or something.

In OpFor's defence, the Black Ops only appear in force following the evacuation- the one that Shephard so spectacularily missed. Clearly, they're meant to clean up the stragglers and keep the finer details of their own mission secret.

Yes, exactly. The handful of Marines left stranded in Black Mesa had to be taken' out because they weren't to happy about nuking Black Mesa while they were still in it. The Black OP's guys were also probably just sadistic...
