Chilling:

Mandatory ISP-level filtering comes to Australia.

Senator Conroy justified the filter, saying that "most Australians acknowledge that there is some internet content which is not acceptable in any civilised society".

"It is important that all Australians, particularly young children, are protected from this material," he said.

Content on the inappropriate for children test list included:

Gambling
Lingerie/Swimsuit
Nudism
Profanity
Sex
Adult
Drug-advocacy
Gross-content
Racism/Hate
Terrorism/Crime

Someone think of the childrens!!

why not block the entire thing

THIS JUST IN

Beaches Banned in Australia Due to High Risk of Exposure to Swimsuits and Nudism!

What asshole thought it would be funny to link this guy 2girls1cup?

Does that mean we are going to lose our Aussie friends?

Best be troillin.

Conroy is probably going to ban the Kmart brochures; think of all the children that flip through the underwear section to get to the toy section!

Profanity
Adult
Surprised you didn't bold these two, especially "adult," given that the word can be a huge umbrella.

Refusal of classification? Is it the possibility that the site will be given a classification or is it that they're going around deciding which is good or bad. Since, the last time I checked, I could get a porno from most Victorian rentals.

I thought about it, but really I'm just flabbergasted by the stupidity of the whole thing. How did an island of exiled convicts become such a shining beacon of prudery? I fear that these systems will spread...

I think it means material they deem to be innappropriate even for an 18+ rating:

RC-rated material includes child sex abuse content, bestiality, sexual violence including rape, and the detailed instruction of crime or drug use.

I'm surprised for this to come out of an island of convicts.

The Government announced that the list of blocked RC content would be compiled "through a public complaints mechanism".

I bet there will be a lot of politicians complaining about blogs that are critical of them.

wtf australia? Your government is so shit i cant even fathom it :/ Hopefully this type fascist thinking wont spread to the rest of the world.

Good to live in Freedom.

In addition to the blacklist, filtering a wider range and volume of material to provide some level of protection to children using the internet

Basically the internet providers will allow a parental lock. All of the Obscenely vulgar content will be blocked regardless. I'm okay with that here, since I don't really divulge in that smut anyway.

lingerie/swimsuit content doesnt seem like "Obscenely vulgar content" unless you're prudish to the point where you'd make victorian pruides blush in envy.

In regards to Techno, the vulgar content is the more severe depictions, such as Child abuse, beastiality, drug advocation, shock sites.

The whole list is a mix of optional and mandatory blockages.
I wonder what will become of the Furry Fandom...

Here's an idea: let's ban kids so we don't have to "think of the children" any more.

Sure, the first phase of the sterilization and extermination process will be pretty grueling, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Fucking kids, ruining everything for everyone!

how about we exterminate the parents, its their fault for letting their kids roam freely.

*waves goodbye to 4chan's austrailian users*

Do they realize how many women/girls will be raped the minute porn is not on the net??

So just because you dont divulge in it, you think you are some kind of moral elite who can decide what other people can and can not divulge themselves into? Who are you to say what i can or can not watch? What if i dont like a certain thing that you like, should i have the right to decide for you that you should not be allowed to view it?

Stay away from my internets plz.

No?

I'm simply saying that on a personal level that it will not affect me at all. And something that doesn't afflict me can go ahead and take its place.

Large epidemic that kills off millions but has the decency to spare my life? by all means.

What is wrong with Australia ? And this is the land that made that show underbelly.

What the **** is up Australia's ass?

Why are they always doing this? Why do the people let them?

God damn country makes America look liberal.

Silly Aussies, freedom of speech is for everyone!

WOW lot's of Australia hate here.

The vast majority of people here would be against any sort of censorship. The last government released a free program for 'parents' that would do the same thing but only around 1000 people took them up on it. Now the new government has decided that because no one wanted this crap last time now everyone get it whether they want it or not.

I'm really hopeing people make noise on this issue cause I'm yet to find anyone here that thinks it's a good idea.
