Ballet of Death

Name sounds like it should be a Doctor Who episode.

generic fps, plus classic music

You fooled me. I was thinking I was walking into an Opera thread, or maybe The Specialists. At least Action Half-Life.

What the hell is this.

Boring!

edit: ok the last vid wasn't that extremely boring...but still i don't like the art direction and environment.

what pisses me most in today's games that there is absolutely no gibbing....i mean come one, a dude gets hit by a rocket and nothing happens...god damn PG13 or T...whatever

Yeah I know I kinda made myself sad too. Now I feel like playing.

Not bad, though it doesnt beat the bit in Bioshock when you get to wrench crazy rabbit people to the sound of Tchaikovsky.

I'm a sucker for hovercraft and even I didn't care too much for it.

Yeah, I can't wait for this one. Those death animations are terrific. I am trying to stay away from too many videos of it though so as not to spoil too much.

This is almost a guaranteed buy for me. That might be dumb, as the first wasn't really that great ... but the hype has convinced me on this one. I will grab the demo first, but assuming all is well with that then it's gonna be mine.

When that bit happened I screamed like a schoolgirl covered in spiders. My sister came running down the stairs to see what had happened:
"Oh... *Gasp* Nothing... *Wheeze* Rabbit masks... *Cough* Tchaikovsky... *Sigh* Pipe wrench..."

Also, was I the only person thinking of Quake 4 whilst watching that? The first video was entertaining though.

Man, that is one grey looking game.

What is it?

EDIT: OOOOH Killzone 2. I see.

I can forgive a dull palette every now and then, especially with the visuals as stunning as they are. Finally a chance to see what the PS3 is really capable of.

Don't give a toss about the game not being a PS3 owner, but damn those are some sexy ragdolls. Could just be selective editing but I didn't see one weird death in the bunch.

As good as the graphics are, it's what I've heard about the gameplay that has me excited. It sounds like an extremely polished hardcore skill-based FPS with an emphasis on using basic tactics. I also like the gritty militaristic future setting.

I myself am really looking forward to this. People complain that it's generic, but from what I've seen it may not be doing anything new, but it sure as hell is doing everything right. And from what I've played/seen it's ridiculously good looking, despite the lack of colour. I do hope some later levels are more creative in palette, but I know that creativity lost in colour is very much made up for in enemies and battles. When you read up on just how much is going in the engine, especially with lighting and AI, it's hard not to be impressed. I hope they let other developers use it, so we don't have to wait until Killzone 3 to see it in action again.

I've heard the first Killzone was pretty shit?

And I just watched the HD version of the trailer that Sedako posted above and it still looked grey and muted to me.

Response to this general conclusion to the most recent footage by game director Mathijs de Jonge:

The first images that we released were just from one level that was still in early production, and I can assure you that the final game has a very rich and varied colour palette - and still manages to maintain that gritty and realistic look and feel.

I've seen the ending:

Everyone dies (they send a nuke to Helghan). We (and other soldiers) go to take down last commanders.

The first images they released?

But this is a video made from the preview code... isn't it?

The comment was made after many of the videos had been released. If what he's saying is true, we'll probably have to wait for either the demo or newer footage to see.

Hmmm, the visuals look quite nice, but I have a sneaking feeling that this is going to be another 'hey let's blow the budget on glossiness and booze instead of gameplay' game
