I figure we should have a thread devoted solely to communications for minecraft cartographer... where hokey will provide the updated world to be rendered, and people can give a shot at trying to render it for us... since it crashes for so many indivudals trying to do it.

Render it daytime, everything default except make it oblique-angled.

This is the latest version of the map that needs to be rendered out.

EDIT: This has been rendered already. http://rapidshare.com/files/422600854/world.zip

This is the previous version that was rendered out.

EDIT: this is no longer the latest.

I rendered it at nighttime too. It's not hosted on vegeta's website however.

I also rendered out the caves. If you can glean any information from them.

Looks pretty badass.

EDIT: THIS IS THE LATEST RENDER! 10/4/2010

Must... find this cave... Look how ****ing huge that is naturally. Looks to be the biggest there is. I wonder if it's one solid cave or not.

I was actually thinking of making a thread like this. Thanks for getting around to it while I was at work.

EDIT: That up to date render isn't working. Possibly the site? I thought we usually had to download a file.

I think Vegeta's site may have crashed?

edit okay no just the file hmm I blame it on myself, it froze halfway through loading for me

I was looking forward to seeing that render. ;(

How do we make sense of the cave map? What do the colors mean and could someone make an overlay?

Also: the daytime map link isn't working.

As for the pixelatomy link, copy and paste it into your browser and hit enter to load it directly. I think it has something to do with the fact it's a referral link if you try to go to it by clicking the link from here. Sorry about that.

Who built the circular ocean base and death egg? I can't find my new house D:

Still won't work

Copy the url and paste it in a new tab/window.

Edit: I turned off hotlink protection, should work normally now.

Uh, that latest render isn't the latest render. It shouldn't be, anyways. I uploaded the new version and Raz even posted my island in the screenshots thread.

confus

EDIT: nvm

Holy shit. Lava. Lava everywhere.

And who decided to walk in a straight line for 30 minutes? lol

There seems to be lots of those sheered off cliffs the further out you go. There's a small one by my house too.
I think that it is caused by the game's terrain generator.

Say you go exploring in one direction, and then another person goes a different direction and then goes back to meet up with you. When the terrain that that gets generated as he goes collides with the terrain that you already generated you get the disparities that we're seeing a lot of these days.

Exactly what I would expect the problem would be. Not an easy one to solve by any stretch either! It would be nice if there were a way to delete (unpopulated!) problem chunks so they could be regenerated seamlessly when these problems arise.

I keep forgetting I'm rendering this in painterly pack. Maybe I should render it in normal.

What do you mean? Texture packs you install have nothing to do with Cartograph.

I think I'm going to have to dump a load of redstone torches around my house to find it.

It takes like 30 minutes to do one world backup now. New world upload soon.

Hopefully I won't have any issues updating the minecraft overview.

lol, I was waiting on this and totally forgot about it. Ended up making an evening lunch.

Rapidshit? Ugh. Do you have Dropbox? (use my referral link and we both get 250 MB more space!) You could just throw it on there and then privately or publically share it with the people that want it.

If you already have Dropbox, quit being silly. ~130MB of data will barely put a dent in your 2GB of free storage. Also, Dropbox supports previous versions which may or not work with archived files. If it does work, you could easily get away with only one or two backups.

tl;dr, use Dropbox. Less upload time for you, better download experience for other people. Others that already have Dropbox will love you too with automatic updates to privately shared files and folders.

I actually have a site I use for files over 1gb and such. It's fine.

As do I... but for an upload that only takes a couple days, it's really not that big of a deal. Most of you have no need to download it anyway, unless you're doing renders with the latest version or messing around with it in singleplayer.

The previous statement is true. I was starting to think on how to automate everything. For example, whenever Hokey creates a backup, you could automatically process and update the Minecraft Overviewer.

Too much of a headache for hokey to mess with it.

I'm already running into issues here with it trying to update. I think I did something wrong and didn't make the backups I needed so. So I might need to end up redoing everything.

<sigh>

Currently updating the minecraft overviewer(i'll work on the cartographer renders later if noone else does).

If anybody is accessing the overviewer they might experience errors while i'm ftping these updated files over.

EDIT: Looks like this shit is going to reupload every single file.

Unacceptable. I'll figure out a different way to get it on there that doesn't take up so much time.

It'll be done in the morning though, hopefully with no further issues.

EDIT: ****... haven't gone to bed. wanted to shut down my computer after it finished, but that was a bad idea. Got distracted by some other stuff though.

Anyway, new version is available.
