What are some games that defined your childhood?
I'll start
Pokemon Red/Blue
Worms
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
Rayman (That game was satanically hard.)
Contra/Super Contra

One might notice the somewhat wide range of dates for the games, well my older brother had a large influence on my gaming choices, so they included some of his childhood games. ^(w)^

Vaguely in chronological order:

Super Mario Bros
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Road Rash
Streets of Rage 2 + 3
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country 2 + 3
Super Mario 64
Goldeneye 007
Blood
Duke Nukem 3D
Wargames
Warcraft II
Dungeon Keeper
Half-Life
Worms Armageddon
Age of Empires II

I guess that's about where I cut off 'childhood games'. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of older gems. I can't think of any gameboy games that really made a big impact, though I did own a GBC and GBA.

my older brother had a large influence on my gaming choices,

Same, as well as my friend who is the only one I knew that had an SNES.

Warcraft 2, X-Com, Civilization 2, Baldur's Gate, Command & Conquer plus Red Alert.

Prior to that there was the Commander Keen series and other random Apogee and DOS games.

Commander Keen, Crusader no regret, Total Annihilation (best RTS ever), Half-Life, Deus Ex, Prince of Persia (the 2D games), Rayman,
Commandos (LEGENDARY games), Desperados, Worms 2, Starcraft 1, also Space sims like Wing commander and freespace and whatever forgot the names

and later:
Warcraft 3, Jedi Knight 2, Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy, Command & Conquer Generals, Half-Life 2, Tron 2.0, Freelancer

hope I forgot nothing!

Crash Bandicoot: Nitro Kart, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly, Half-Life 2, Canis Canem Edit, GTA 3, Vice City, Counter Strike: Source, Sim City 4, Rayman 3, Generals, Battlefield 1942 and a bunch of free flash games.

but if we forget games they didnt really "defined" our childhood, did they?
I just have awful memory. I remember Red Alert and Age of Empires making a huge impact on mine now. It's sort of what gave me my Dota micro skills.

MARS. Spec Ops. Delta Force. SWAT. Donkey Kong 1 and 2. Duke Nukem (both the 2d games and 3D). Scorched Earth. I also played a bunch of no name games that came bundled on a floppy.
These were all before I got a n64, at which point childhood ended and a life of over-indulgement began.

Pac Man
Dig Dug
Super Mario Bros
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic and Knuckles
Tetris
Pokemon Gold/Blue/Red
Tomb Raider
Street Fighter 2
Ecco The Dolphin
Doom
Mech Warrior 2

Tetris, Super Mario, Ice Climbers... plenty of them but the ones that immediately jump to mind are King's Bounty and HoMM! I'm playing this game rn and the graphics are giving me such a nostalgia trip... Should probably find or start or rec thread to get more of similar modern games.

Some stuff in no particular order:

Mega Drive:
Sonic games
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Soleil
Ristar
Street Fighter II
Golden Axe
Revenge of Shinobi

Game Gear:
More Sonic games
Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion

DOS/Windows:
Command & Conquer series
Resident Evil 2
PC Gamer demo discs
Doom
Descent (freeware)
Chip's Challenge
Duke Nukem 3D
Monster Truck Madness 2
Worms series
Lemmings
Half-Life
Deus Ex
Quake
Vague half-memories of some DOS games like a racing one and some edutainment stuff
Curse of Monkey Island
Neverhood

Game Boy:
Pokémon Blue/Silver
Link's Awakening

PS2
Silent Hill 2
Metal Gear Solid 2
Half-Life again
Red Faction
Siphon Filter 2 (PSX game but played it on a PS2)
Metal Gear Solid (same as above)

Is that too much to name?

For me it all started with Wolfenstein 3D, and then moved on to anything made by apogee or 3d realms..

BlakeStone.. Rise of the Triad, Hexen, Blood, Duke 3D, Shadow warrior, Redneck Rampage was favorite of lan parties lol. And of course the Doom series.

The other series that has stuck with me was the mechwarrior franchise.. god damn were those fun games! Especially Mechwarrior 2 mercenaries!

Cheers
