What the hell... why is there a holiday called Cyber Monday?

Jesus Christ... what's up with all these shopping holidays? Ridiculous. Black Friday? Cyber Monday?

I didn't even know a Cyber Monday existed until I keep seeing it mentioned everywhere on the net today.

unless it's a statutory holiday it's not a holiday ..you're not allowed to celebrate something if it means the rest of us have to go to work :E ...I'd gladly celebrate Chunnaka/Canadian National Build an Igloo Day if it meant I got a day off work

Well, I don't view holidays as 'days you get off work'... since most holidays people don't seem to get off work, at least from my experience and people I know. Christmas and thanksgiving are pretty much the only ones it seems which sucks.

Christmas and thanksgiving are pretty much the only ones it seems which sucks.

not sure about the US but in canada:

New Year's Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and December 26 (Boxing Day)

stat holidays just means that by law emplyers have to pay you for those days if you've worked for a certain period of time ..you can take any holiday you want but it doesnt mean employers will pay you for it

I get New Years, Labor, Thanksgiving/day after, Christmas Eve/Christmas off...Then again, I don't work in a retail/fast food place, but when I worked at one for 5 years, I only had Christmas off. YES WE WERE ****ING OPEN ON THANKSGIVING. And white trash assholes STILL came to order hamburgers.

Well, you have a point but people still consider and call them holidays. Not all businesses follow the practices and stuff though, which sucks...

Halloween for example is pretty much a recognized holiday, but I don't know of anybody who gets off work for it. That would rock.

no.by law ALL businesses MUST pay stat holidays, that's what stat holidays are ..so even if I work on a stat holiday by law they must pay me time and a half

Neither do Temporary Employees...

and it seems in these days you can't even get a job if you're not employed by a temp agency. Really bad job situation here right now, at least in Dallas. I mean even people with specialized degrees and stuff, are having to resort to finding temporary work through stupid ****ing temp agencies(albeit jobs that require those specializations). I hate temp agencies with a passion.

Dallas sucks anyways, wth are you doing there? In fact, the only acceptable place to be in Texas imo is Austin... and even then, you still have to *drive* in Texas, which is pretty bad.

I get paid for stat holidays and I only work part time.

after looking it up in ontario govt website you're correct, there is no stipulation in ontario for amount of hours worked, partime emplyees are covered under workers rights and cant be discrimnated because of it, my bad
