I'll understand if your scepticle but it does fit in with Eli's creation of Dog. Either way there's not much point in getting excieted. We'll see if it's true in a few months.
 
Don't know what to believe really. I do agree tho that the houndeye-synth theories don't measure up.

Strangely, it does say something in the strategy guide about the Hunter being a contraption of Eli Vances. Though, it really was just baiting. "Either a contraption of Eli Vances, or a Combine contraption."
 
I just sent Gabe an e-mail and I deceided to mention that post in it to see if it's valid.
 
Also, don't know if this means anything but I've gotten a few emails from Gabe, and that doesn't seem like his writing style.
 
How do you know that exactly? Is that also in the strat guide?
 
Overwatch forces vs rag tag resistance. Who do you think is going to win? Do you honestly think they'd just walk away from Black Mesa East? Of course they wouldn't, and once they'd taken control they'd have done their best to dent the resistance and steal all information within.
 
Oh, your ambigious use of "they" confused me (for some strange reason I thought you were referring to the hunters). I agree with that assumption then.
 
And about the writing style, Marc Laidlaw sent a reply to me before saying "nerdz 4 life"
Is that what you'd expect from a profestional writer?

Um, yes The Combine probably did take over Black Mesa East and would have used the technology developed there for their own nefarious means. But aren't we forgetting something? Barely more than a week has passed since they invaded BME. I don't think they've quite had time to make anything of what they found there yet. Plus they've probably been a little bit preoccupied with the revolution...

Thats the exact same thing I was thinking too! Please accept this as false right now until this is verified please. I don't expect Gabe to go, "Hey guyz lolz teh hondey3z are teh creation of teh 1337 Eli kk? Plus has anybody ever seen Gabe use an avatar before in an e-mail? *But now I'm thinking, the combine did invade Black Mesa East before entering Ravenholm. Hmm....
 
It's looking 99.9% false. Even if we were to assume Gabe writes that way, why would he give away a scene like that?

Secondly, synths are self-replicating. Self-replicating. SELF-REPLICATING. (I keep having to say that every time these damned hunters come up!) They're just tiny striders built by striders. What possible part would Eli play in that? I shudder to think. Furthermore, I don't think Eli would really be the type to experiment with synths, building hunters to combat the Combine. That's ludicrous.

Folks, this guy's just trying to make it seem like he knows something and he doesn't. I can't believe that people on that forum are believing him.
 
Plan plan, must impress... anyway who would be stronger Dog or 3 hunters and don't tell me whatever happened to Dog cuz itll SPOILER ME!

No, but it's a good start.

Initially I thought they were synthed-houndeyes, but I admit that's looking increasingly less likely.
But I don't believe it's based on anything Eli's done - it looks too organic, in the same way that the rest of the Combine do, not like anything the Resistance built. I don't care how efficient the Combine are, I find it hard to believe that, in the week since their assault on BME they managed to obtain the technology, modify it and perfect it into some plausible threat.
Speaking of which, what do you guys thinks its attack will be?

And if that txt is real, I will eat my hat.
Seriously, I'll cook it lovingly with thyme, glaze it with honey, yoghurt and lime and leave it to roast slowly for hours whilst I knock up a green salad to serve it with and bake a humble pie for me to eat for dessert, filled with my own words.

The guy posted that fake text as an argument that you shouldn't believe everything everyone says on the internet.

I'm so used to retards spouting nonsense on the internet - especially where HL mythology is concerned - that I figured he was being serious and didn't give it a second thought.

Yeah, but look at DOG; he's made of bits and bobs and scrap. Look at the Hunters or whatever their called; smooth, sleek, highly mobile with great agility, the use of the strange Combine 'never-ending ammo from a small space' (see also: gun turrets), etc. Definatly synth if you ask me.

Listen the only technology of Eli's that was ever supposed to be mimicked by the Combine was Dog. If there is ever a scene where Eli says, "I can't believe they used my..." and referring to a design of his, it'd be for Dog-like mechs.
 
Not so free-willed as Dog, just combat bots. They were supposed to be encountered in the arctic, at the weather control station. This was all written in the earliest drafts of HL2, when Eli wasn't Eli Vance, but there was instead a Captain Vance who was the father of Alyx. At least I'm pretty sure Captain Vance hadn't been cut at that time...
 
He was a character that was a double agent, both running the Air Exchange for the combine and (as Samon said) the head of the resistance. An old military man, hence the "captain" title.

When the Air Exchange was cut, Valve cut Captain Vance, and made Alyx Vance Eli's daughter (she was already supposed to be very close to him anyway).
 
I read someone stating that the Hunter model was already included in the leaked version of HL2. He didn't have any screenshots, though.
 
Well, I do believe there was a listing for ministriders in the HL2 beta. I don't know if there was a model or anything more than just a line of text, but I also seem to recall something similar. In fact I believe it was in the same place there was mention of TF2.

I think t would be more a case of them ripping off his design. Samon, what does it actualy say in the strat guide about Hunters and Eli?
