This image got me thinking:

Especially the part where it says "the live fire phase of the Cooperative Testing Initiative". Does that mean that A. there will be guns this time around and B. there will be co-op of some kind? I'd rather not have any firearms but co-op sounds quite cool to me.

I assumed that was a reference to this whole puzzle they've had us going through. This was the "trial phase", the Testing Initiative was for the community as a whole to see if they could work out all the clues, and the "live fire phase" is when the game is in a playable state and ready for open beta testing.

I hadn't even thought of it that way. Not that it really matters for this thread though.

I was also thinking, since the Game Informer covers seems to imply outdoor environments, will the format again be a test range? I have to say I liked the final part of the first Portal best where you could use the portal gun in a the 'real' world in stead of the testing chambers.

EDIT Ah!

[...Game Informer's reveal that the sequel features a "two-player co-op mode [with] its own campaign [featuring] two new playable characters]

2 person co-op sounds really sweet.

New gameplay elements I am expecting:

Portals on more types of surfaces.
Portals on moving surfaces.
Ability to shoot portals through portals.
Moving enemies.
Cooperative puzzles.

New story elements I am expecting:
What happens to Chell after ApSci Labs.
What happened to the Borealis.
What happened to GlaDos.
What happened or will happen to C. Johnson.
More test subjects.
Android Hell.
Ratman.
Interaction with the outside world.
More information as per the connection between ApSci and Government.
More information as to what specific timeframe that Portal 1 and 2 are taking place in within the Half-Life continuity.

Yeah, you basically summed up all of the things that I am expecting for in Portal 2. I'm just curious as to when the events of Portal took place in comparison to the timeline of Half-Life. It would really help us understand even more than before how both games are related to each other.

Oh crap I'm going to have to play with someone. I can fights breaking out over this.

I might have forgotten to link the image before but two images came out of the new username and password through the BBS...the one Shaker has linked and this one

Porta-potty portals.

Some more Ratman stuff definately.
I really hope they tie this more together with Half Life 2 this time.

Unfortunately most of my friends are retarded at games so i hope the co-op won't be essential to the story aspec of the game. Unless i'm able to find someone good to play with online. Portal servers?/Multiplayer? With weapons? Now that would be badass! You never got to use your left arm in the first portal anyway so let's have dual wielding in Portal multiplayer. Gun + Portal gun!

GameStop's web site have leaked some details before they quickly pulled
Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes.

The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

Okay, so, like Darkside said, the game takes place hundreds of years later.

That means that, if, say, in the HL universe the earth were abandoned by then, or they simply never recovered that area in that time, the facility would have been overgrown with plantlife.

Thus, it's not necessary for it to be outdoors. However, there will likely be fauna inside.

Where did it say that it takes place hundreds of years later? I haven't really followed portal 2 stuff so a link whould be nice.

I dunno, 2 modes, one with guns, one with puzzles, sounds pretty awesome.

I just can't wait to play as one of these:

I heard that Portal 2 takes place over 100 years after the first one. Can anybody else confirm this?

Yes. It was in Gameinformer's article on it.

I don't know if I like that too much. I was hoping that it would be set possibly before the first Portal.

Well it's not so deal with it. Chell is in suspended animation for a couple lifetimes, in which time Aperture Labs goes to shit, and then (without spoiling too much) gets woken up. So does GLaDOS and she starts trying to rebuild while simultaneously putting Chell through more tests.
