General Disscussion still a hell hole

Ok I decied to make a thread about the General discussion forum.Please give your suggestions on ways that the mods/admins can improve it.This is meant to be serious.

Here is my suggestion.Get a some mods that live in america so that there will be a moderator present when the mods in europe go to bed or work.

Holy crap! I just noticed the quick reply is back! Anyways, yeah it's melting pot in there. Full of random people joining and suddenly spamming the forum with pointless threads or racist comments.

It's a circus out there.

he wasn't a guest reply thing... his accoutn was deleted...which made the wired names.

Tr0n, guest posting has never been allowed on these forums, you might've seen one guest earlier, because thats what happens when the user is deleted (all their posts revert to 'guest'), and about a minute after that, the thread was deleted.

I've been doing my best to clear up the general forum tonight

heh...yea being a moderator has its peaks im sure. i dont think i post enough or am well known enough to become moderator, although i would like to. back in may i requested it but munro didnt think he needed help...then all the sudden people get it. eh its ok i could understand why he might not want a southern californian moderator.

oh wut was this thread about? ...ah yes general forum, to many n00b threads and not enough input on the real stuff. to much crapy commentary. mod are doin a good job though, give em some credit.

As soon as more concrete information is released, General discussion will become more of a discussion forum than a comment forum, after all with the small amount of info valve are releasing publicly there is only so much people can talk about until it gets repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated......

Wavelength uses a MEMBER+ only group to discuss heated topics. Only people who have shown themselves to be responsible in posting for a while are giving MEMBER+ status. This gives them access to two restricted forums where the typical "flame" topic can be discussed without idiots turning it into pissing wars. Sensitive topics are not allowed in the General Discussion. Any "mature" topic is moved into the restricited space.

It works pretty well there. Threads do get long and heated. (100+ replies). The longest ones get closed if it isnt going anywhere constructive. Racism, Homophonias, Religion, Abortion, politics...all get discussed but they don't become flame wars with people posting for the sake of upping their post count.

The biggest problem here is that there are TOO many members. I avoided the forums for a few weeks because the place was flooded with new people--and too many were idiots. I actually prefer boards with just a few dozen regulars.
