Thats all good but a "LINK" to view your site, and or information of your mod might help you out? =/, Just a sugjestion however =).

Oh god.... air... must regain normal breathing... XD

There are concepts here, knock yourself out!

Those are to get a rough idea of what they'll look like.

how ironic that he's smoking...

Also I don't know about the name. It will be humans with different 'elemental' abilities, against... aliens? Also why is it based in Canada? Did your modeller make really cool looking grizzly bear models or something?

I don't know that you know what the limitations of the source engine are. You won't be able to make a fully seamless world where you can stroll around and challenge someone to a fight across the whole planet. You also won't be able to have controlable water (if you were planning on, say, having one of the water elements being able to control water to wash people to death). Also deforming terrain on the fly is possible by the source engine, but to what extent I don't know (haven't seen it done yet, as far as I know).

Good luck with your mod, but you might need to change a few aspects and dumb it all down if you want it to release before your great grandchildren die.

SERIOUSLY. I enjoy "fun with coloring" as much as the next guy, but don't waste our time.

I think the main concept is fairly naive, but I don't think having generated concepts is all that bad. Concepts don't have to be done by a team member or be visually stunning. Just as long as they give the other mod members an idea of what they need to be aiming for AND it doesn't infringe upon any copyright law, it doesn't really matter. If you're not too bothered about the fact that you wouldn't have any control to stop those concepts being used in any other Mod then it doesn't really matter.

This is all based on a pretty big assumption: that any content generated by using that tool can be used for a Mod or otherwise without infringing copyright.

[Edit]
All images & code (c) 2004 AFD Studios, version 2.0b
But also:
The individual images used in the HeroMachine, and any composite assemblage using those specific images, are copyrighted by AFD Studios, Inc. The image you create with the HeroMachine is also copyrighted by AFD Studios, Inc., though permission is automatically granted to use said image without compensation on any non-commercial site. AFD Studios, Inc.
does NOT claim copyright on your character CONCEPT.

In other words, your character is YOURS, but the images (in any order and combination)
within the HeroMachine application are OURS.

AFD Studios, Inc.

So there's nothing wrong with using the software to give your 2D and 3D artists something to work on, but theoretically any other Mod could use the same image, call it "Cancerman" instead of Treeman (or whatever it was) and there's nothing you can do about it. Also it might be sensible to give credit to HeroMachine on your concept pages, otherwise it could be argued that you are implying you created them yourself, which you did not.

I would say that this is one of the mods that is going to be dead within a month. No offense of course.. But the lack of english, the ugly site, the generated concept it all says it's amateurs

resisting the temptation to flame this to the ground i have to agree with zyd. and quite frankly the idea of the mod is quite well weird. and why is it set in canada?? it sounds liek some kind of pokemon game. and also

Well find a way

no you wont.

It's philodendron man!

I've no experience whatsoever with modding, but wasn't there a technology demo for the source engine where Gabe was extolling the virtues of his product by showing terrain deformation? The ground swells up and deforms right before your eyes. I think it was in the E3 demo.

Yeah I had noticed that in the E3 High-def runthrough, but it hasn't been exploited in either Half-life2 or mods as of yet. Perhaps because it uses too many resources, or is highly buggy? I mean those E3 videos were heavily scripted.

The mod has just started.... that doesn't mean anything to yah'll?

It is simply not professionally lead at all. A real mod would never use generated concept art. A good mod would make sure their english is good to attract new artists. And the story ain't that great aswell.. If you really want to get into the modding scene learn a talent and join a mod that's already around. You'll get more luck with that

It's in the code - you can deform displacements. However, some quirk in the engine stops it from changing the collision box, so any craters act as if they aren't there. Which is likely why it was cut.

By the way i am not the head of the mod so, email Evil Squirrel at: [email protected]

It's ment to be a to be a do you want to join topic now spam out the negatives :P

Good heavens, what was that? :upstare: Good to know, Angry Lawyer, what happened with that bit of code. Like many things from the preview videos, I kept my eye out in vain for some hint of this in the game.

also the shadows would look weirde since it would have to stretch them since the engine cant recompile the lightmaps in realtime

CTerrainMorph.cpp, in the server side of the code. It's still there, waiting to be finished.

Good god Lawyer, what do you do on your free time? :)

omg thats the best concept art ive ever seen. the concept art alone really pwns the metal gear solid 4: guns of the patriots movie... and all that stuff with elements make this mod much coooler then captain planet and his gang :D
jk
...good luck

And what has this got to do with Joining Alien Element?

One Hell of a lot, assuming you want displacements to change shape.

haha this is highly amusing.

back to your mod. what members do you already have? what do you have to show for the story other than a ridiculusly strange idea and some generated concepts?

Basicly everything is on the Alien Element website, almost all of out members are slackers and havn't done jack s*** so that is why we are askign for more members that don't slack off.

We really need mroe members of everything so really post your work and we'll consider it :)

Right, I am going to join your mod, after you just insulted the former members. Sure. :|

so what your saying is you dont have any work to show for this accept the concept and the bizzare story. im not going to post my work because im to busy on other things to even consider joining a team that has an almost 99.9 percent chance of failing.

hahaha

i didnt realise u canadians dont understand sarcasm, im british by the way so dont start calling me a facist american pig coz then all i could do is agree.
