Yep... sometimes at random during the night when i'm trying to sleep... my head explodes. It's a bitch to clean in the morning.

How about with you?

No, i'm kidding. But I do suffer from exploding head syndrome.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome

The symptoms describe me exactly... I'll be drifting off to sleep... and suddenly a really loud noise will startle me awake, and I knew it was in my head cause it didn't sound realistic. Then i'd drift off to sleep again. Sometimes it'll happen several times, with various different sounds being the culprits. I only sometimes feel panic from the noise, especially since I realized that its something in my head. I only just now found the definition of it tonight.

Does anybody else experience this, or am I the only one?

Yes, I've had this before.. Its like an electrical overload or something.

I can imagine mine as an overbearing blast of noise/energy in my head, and it comes on like a light from a lighthouse spinning towards you: zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz

I talk in my sleep too, I'm told.

I've also had the Hypnic Jerk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk) a few times, and I'm sure many others have

I only have ultra-sensativity to high pitches when I'm trying to sleep. Damn you mosquitoes! *flails around with electric zapper thing*

hahaha, never heard of that myself

edit: I've had hypnic jerk's (LOL, such weird name) from time to time

I never knew this was the name for it either, and its a pretty cool name :) (edit: they all have weird names! :D)

I've had sleep complications for a number of years now, starting back when I was working in a graveyard/third shift job.

Had insomnia for some time, but I seem to be getting over that quite well now.

yeah, insomnia is my biggest sleep problem... but its only really bad like once a month at most; and by really bad like up 3+ hours trying to fall asleep

Yea it happened to me.
actually it just happened yesterday, i heard this loud weird sound when i was asleep.
i actually woke up and went to the other room to check if something happened.

I think the most important question here, is what is that gif from? I see it everywhere yet i have no idea.

I have them thar Hypnotic Jerks every signle night. That's no shit.

I have a hypnic jerk too....my hand makes these "up & down" movements
it's truly horrible :(

Have: Hypnic Jerks

Have not: Exploding Head Syndrome

Want: Exploding Head Syndrome :D :D

I also experience something else which may be what Ænema was talking about, and it feels like my vision is rapidly bouncing up and down..... :| k that doesn't make much sense but I know anyone who gets this will know what I'm talking about :P

Edit: Actually theres a clip in The Matrix that reminds me a lot of this sensation, I even found a video that has part of it... At the very beginning of the video you will see Neo right after the camera has done this weird zoom-in-out-really rapidly thing, and thats kinda what it feels like. You can barely see it in the video but if you've seen the movie you probably remember the thing the camera does...here's the uh...video..http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=1896373692253736225&q=matrix.........sorry.

wow, what exactley do the sounds sound like?

Its hard to describe. For me, its a strong, almost metallic zapping/buzzing pulse. A component of the sound reminds me of a louder, more distorted and very drawn out ding from an old style phone or firebell.

I also experience something else which may be what Ænema was talking about

haha I'll bet!
