Indeed, the mask is from Mario 2, whenever you move certain special keys the masks fly off and attack you. There is no stopping them, just like you can't stop the Ski Free yeti.

I still don't know what the hell we were thinking when we made that beast. Just in case some of you don't recognize all the parts (shame on you, you're gamers!):

The yeti's body and right arm
Left arm, legs, and sword from Pyramid Head
The sun from Super Mario Bros. 3
Sinistar
Moon from Zelda: Majora's Mask
Mask from Super Mario Bros. 2

And just because it wasn't unstoppable enough, Unicron's horns and Hannibal Lector's facemask.
