The english language needs paranthesis. Does the announcement mean:

A. Please don’t post or request scans of (articles or screenshots) of Half-Life 2

OR

B. Please don’t post or request (scans of articles) or (screenshots) of Half-Life 2

I.E. Are screenshots that are NOT scans considered acceptable or off-limits? Like, for example, what Gamspy has posted.

You can post the ones from gamespy I would imageine. :)

We arnt allowed to post anything from a magazine because the site might get into legal trouble. However if you post a link to gamespys site with the scans they still get the hits. So they wont be bothered.

The first. Officially released screenshots are allowed here, but scans of article (ie. text) material and screenshot material are not allowed.

what about, say, the screenshots that are on gamespy, from my site?

They have not been officially released. As far as I'm aware Valve did not release them.

I'm sure a large corporation site like Gamespy would have clarified if they were official or not before posting onto their main page, where thousands of people will go to see them.

The nine new s/s on Gamespy are legal according to VERC Collective.

Gamespy simply resized the leaked screenshots and stuck their logo on it.

well legally you can't hotlink directly to a picture on a site you don't own. gamespy is different b/c linking to the picture brings up more than just a picture. the reason you can't hotlink is b/c you are using up their bandwith without seeing their advertisements or whatever they are using to generate some income.

Yes they are deliciously legal and official.

Leaked? it doesn't seem like it. they were printed in magazines after all.
