So, I am starting to make a time capsule. A package I will open again after 10 years.

I will store some of my favourite music of this time, games and stuff to it. I will burn things into CD and so. Do you people have any ideas what kinda stuff should I put there?

I will maybe make a list of websites in there too, and see if they are still online after all those years. Then maybe some more memorable stuff, like the testimony from some jobs I've done lately :D

Once I made one that was 6 months long, but I could quite easily remember what there was. 10 years is a bit longer time.

I wonder if hl2.net will be here in 10 years...

Put a book in there. And some alcohol.

Ahahah some food could as a matter of fact be nice. After 10 years there probably will be Halflife5.net, I will make some kind of form in there with questions "Is there yet 8-core computers in cheap prices?" and stuff like that.

If you put CDs in there, make sure to put in a CD walkman and some batteries.

I like this idea though. I'm going to do it as well.
If you can, try recording a video of yourself talking about how you're feeling what your interests are, where you hope to be. I think actually seeing yourself could be really interesting.

I've been thinking about doing that. I could do it every year and then watch them 5-10 years after recording them, respectively.

Well right now my problem is that finding some cool-looking box isn't really working :D

But I don't think CD-reading drives are completely out in 2018, I will make mention there like "Here's a CD if you can read it".

This is a really good idea. I'd probably lose it though since I'm a dick.

I'd be willing to bet there wont be CDs anymore in 10 years. And players/drives will probably be as hard to come by as VHS players are now.

i'd do it longer than 10 years, cos in 10 years time youre gonna think "jeez, the world hasnt changed that much?"

save up some money and put it in an investment, put the details in the capsule and see what its worth when you dig it up.

This is a cool idea. The closest thing I've done to this, was when my middle school English teacher made us write letters to ourselves and mailed them to us 4 years later. It would've been pretty cool if it weren't so embarrassing to read.

I did this in elementary school...wish I could go back and look.

What did you put in Cyberpitz?

Anyway, I think you should put a list of all your favourite people from HL2.net in there, and then when you dig it up, email them, and find out how they are, what they are doing etc in 10 years...

:(Just incase this forum doesnt last...which it will!! :)

Heh, tomorrow I'll probably begin. I will write most of the texts in Microsoft Word and then print. Gonna make a long message, something worth reading. And sure some money could be nice in there.

But I don't think CD's die in 10 years, because, the current bluray drives can read CD's, as do the DVD drives, so they will still be accessable. And so with the VHS cassettes, there are the DVD/VHS combo players, so playing them isn't really a problem either. I don't wanna record a video in there because my webcam is so shit quality and also, my voice sounds so lame after I recorded it :D

Pictures, websites, news of today, questions and much more I will not be putting there :) Thanks for giving some ideas.

I'll go in your capsule ;)

Would be interesting to open it in 50 years or so. I can't wait for the future!

So are you going to bury it? or just leave it under your bed or something? i might do this too.

Regular CD's probably won't last 10 years. I know cheap ones definitely won't. You need 'archive' quality discs. They use a higher quality chemical and last 100 years. Also, gold CD's.

Put all the images from all the 'IMAGE DUMP' on a disc. That should be a riot when you see them again, the funny pictures will seem new again.

Why wouldn't regular CDs last 10 years? Vacuum seal the capsule, water proof it, and stick it in some thermal absorbent material. The CD isn't going to degrade naturally in such a short time.

My HL cd still works fine- it's been 10 years and it's been smudged and scratched all to hell- when I wasn't handling it I would store it in some shitty case.

You should put money, couple CD's , and maybe a note

Srs post is srs.

store bought discs are different story.

I'm talking about ones you burn yourself.

For example, I was having a problem because some Memorex DVD DL's kept failing when I burned them. I checked online, and thats how I found out about this. The quality of the disc is just ass. That's why 13 out of 15 became beverage coasters. So what I found out was that Memorex got them from Ritek, and put their name on them. Ritek is like the lowest quality discs you can get (also the least expensive) So anyway, the just plain blow. The recording speed is very low, and they fail, and I also heard that the chemical is cheap, and begins to degrade in as little as ONE MONTH CAPS

Other cheap discs will have similar results.

Verbatim seems to be the best BTW. I never failed one burn with those. But I have seen 'archive quality' discs in the store that are a little expensive.

However, it would be really sad to make a time capsule, open it up in 20 years, and the discs say, "disc error. there is nothing on this disc anymore because I'm cheap. The entire time capsule project has been compromised and you are a tool." lol

should have listened to Vis. nah serious you should look on google if you don't believe. :stare:

Put a wireless card and a modem in there as well, its most likely those devices will be obselete in 10 years time

Its a shame Valve do not produce a plush gman, that would be cool to put in the box

Right now I have written 3 pages of text with some information of websites where I am right now, and how politics have been going on lately, and some names of my friends and other people.

I'll put newspaper in there, PlayStation 2 EyeToy, and CD with all kinds of stuff like photos, games and programs. I will then put the box somewhere, in my closet or somewhere, and hope to find it in 2018. I will put Half-Life 1 in the disc along with mods like Paranoia and Poke646: Vendetta.

I don't put any actual games there because I am sure I will take care of them either way. Just like I have my Super Nintendo and Sega Megadrive still working under my TV :D

Then I'll put one of my school projects there, and a bit of some little more useless things, candies, money and you know...what comes to mind.

put some collectible cards in there. yes. newspaper articles.

Important news paper articles. Not some shitty ones you don't want to even bother remembering.

Also, imagine what you will be like when you pick up the newspaper and see the date...

They did the same thing at my high school. The letter was a ****ing chore to read without cringing the whole time.

Put memes in it.
Better still, have an image of Admiral Ackbar etched onto the outside and see if you particularly Nerdy offspring warns you against opening it. If they manage to get it, ruffle their hair in a wholesome way and congratulate yourself on being a superb parent.

I think that you should put the following additional items in your time capsule:

1) A Bunch of Bananas.
2) A T-Shirt saying 'I love Cockroaches!'
3) A Selection of PRC sanctioned Fortune Cookies containing Romanizations of phrases, supplemented by A3 sized diagrams explaining that not only has nothing of note ever happened in Tiananmen Square, but the Square in question doesn't in fact exist for people to disappear from.

This is due to the likelihood of the corresponding ethnic groups being the ruling power over your nuclear-ravaged planet of 10 years time. You may also want to pack a Mace.

Put memes in it? I wonder... by the way, in memetics it's called a "dormant meme".

Put an American dollar in the capsule, and write a little letter about how back then(now) it was worthless. Then compare it to whenever you open it.

Some other things to put in the capsule...

Johnny Walker Blue Label...

And a piece of paper with the URL:

www.halflife2.net

Also make a recording of rick roll and put it on there.

My Primary school did this as well. I wrote a letter and put it in there without anyone noticing and a few years later I found a draft of it. I can't believe I actually wrote the stuff I did and put it in =(
We did it in 2000 and the capsule is under ground for 50 years so I'll be 60 when it surfaces. I bet there is a big difference already with 8 years gone by so far.

If you put 4chan fads in your time capsule, I hope the plot you buried it in gets developed over.

Copy and print this entire thread, add it to the capsule before you bury it :)

I still have the september 12th (2001) edition of the Daily Mail

Who doesn't?

The newspapers that day (and the day before) EXPLODED with pictures of the two towers collapsing.

One of the most shocking things of all time.

Well...as we have now all these conspiracy theories, it is doubted that WTC attacks were made by terrorists :/ Best example being people who reported explosions before a plane even hit the building.
