as a recent number of threads have been hijacked by people(me included)talking about mgs3 it was time to create this thread, anyone who is playing or has played is welcome to comment on this great game, anyway im close to the finish now

ive just entered the forest with eva after that amazing bike ride and 3 boss fights,i liked how after the bike crashed and eva became injured, once snake cured her she tried to get close to him again but snake quickly pulled a revolver out and started explaining its strengths mimicking the first time they met,all snake knows is how to fight :sniper:

also if you havent done it yet call sigint with a cardboard box equipped

and have you all got to the dreaded ladder boss?*shudder* :O

do you like the main theme 'snake eater'?

i think the game had to many homosexual parts

theres not many gay moments, volgin is bisexual btw,i think it was more a joke about raidens feminine appearance(the crotch grabbing scene)

jimbo, you need to make that into a spoiler tag, don;t forget to put a / in the spoiler thing at the end

i'll start a new post as editing doesnt work
anyway

ending thoughts,spoilers

you really get to see why big boss turned out how he did and why he started the events of metal gear 1 and 2(not to be confused with metal gear solid 2 and metal gear solid 2:sons of liberty),he was totally disillusioned with his country and what they made him do,its also interesting how big boss mimicks the bosses life as eva says to snake as he walks to the bosses grave in washington that boss will go down in history as a traitor and monster etc yet she was the true patriot, big boss just continued her legacy and has inherited those names too as we learn in the past metal gears(by that i mean we're made believe he is a bad guy, terrorist etc),maybe big boss was doing what was right? etc,the same could be seen in solidus,he was following big bosses example and trying to break the philospers/patriots grip on the world, great game though, the ending is better than metal gear sold 1 imo

wonder what happened to eva?maybe she was assasinated as it says she disappeared in the 70s

anyone care to explain what ocelot was on about at the end?who is he working for?the patriots or the cia?

Yeah, it was a great game. I got a little annoyed sometimes because I got alert damn many times.
What I just tought about was that The Sorrow and The Boss had a baby, right? So I tought it could be Psycho Mantis as The Sorrow was kinda freaky.

Ocelot was apparently working for the CIA, KGB and somebody else.

:D i should have Snake Eater by saturday :bounce: :bounce:

But Mantis said in MGS 1, that his burnt down the village his father lived in, because he tret him like crap due to his mother dying during childbirth

I say it is Ocelot.

most people say its ocelot but i just started playing again and ocelot asks snake when they first meet, are you the boss?guess he doesnt even know whos his mom, although the boss does say that her child was taken away from her so does she even know?

samon have you finished the game?where r u in it

It is Ocelot, according to the leaked scripts(Which were proved to be correct) it was Boss's son.

Yeah didn't remembe rwhat mantis said in MGS1. I wish the bosses in MGS3 would've spoken more after defeat.

BTW, how old is Snake in mgs3? At one point I tought he was the son of the boss. And I also tought The Fury was Yuri Gagarin :o Confusing at times.

I'm not sure but remember that Big Boss was a "soldier" during WW2, but I guess he was 30/40 in MGS3, seeing as he looked like 50/60 in MG1/MG2(1990:s IIRC)

I finished the game saturday night, playing through on hard :D
what extras did you get 1st time?ive started again using that save so i get the bosses kick ass patriot gun with unlimited ammo,i also got her camo but in black, its a prototype camo, dont really use it though as its sorta cheating, reduces footstep noise or something,

i wasnt allowed change difficulty lvl so im still on normal,i'll start a new game on hard soon, whats the diff anyway, more guards etc?

yes i missed the characterisation of the bosses like who can forget sniper wolf from mgs1 or mantis, they had stories,in mgs2 the bosses were much more integral to the storyline, fortune and vamp in dead cell etc had a deal with solidus whereas in this mteal gear their mostly there coz of the boss,it was like that in mgs1 but they still had stories too,the battles though were great, looking forward to reading gamefaqs faqs on metal gear particurly the easter egg/specials 1

I'm playing a new game on hard. I'm trying to deal with every boss in a non-lethal way and try to kill less than 411 people. The Sorrow part takes 10 mins if you kill 411 people.

Same as you Jimbo, same as you.

I agree, there wasn't really much too the boss's unfortauntly, they really didnt have any character developement at all, except Sorrow really.

In MGS2, they played a much larger role.

oh yeah i got the crocodile ranking and a tuxedo, not the best ranking, currently trying to ghost the game, got caught at rassvet trying to free sokolov so i said **** it,whipped out the patriot and blew every mofo away :sniper:

pls tell me you all rang sigint with a cardboard box equipped :afro:

some things to do:
11. Special Radio Conversations
---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Call Paramedic to get biographies of your animals and they usually
are very funny.

- Every time you save the game and keep playing, Para-Medic will say
something about a movie. One of them is about this giant
plant-like thing that clones humans. BB will act all surprised
when Para-Medic explains to him what clones are, and that someday
the genes of soldiers like BB will be a hot commodity. BB
dismisses it as a silly idea, and Para-Medic tells him that it's
very possible with technology. Obviously a connection to his sons.

- In a save conversation with Para-medic, she will start talking
about a movie with a giant ant. She says something about
radioactivity to snake and how if he was huge, he would have no
hiding places. Snake says "Just like a Gurgulon(sp?)" A reference
to Substance. (?*? not clear on what this is)

- Call SIGNT about the Life medicine.

- If you choose "I like MGS2" at the beginning, after the whole
Jack thing, put the Raidenovich mask back on and call Major Tom.

- After you beat the game equip the Tux you get and radio the boss.
She will get pissed and say that you need to change your cloths.
While Snake just says "I look good don't I?"

- Call SIGNT with the patriot equipped, you get some pretty amusing
dialogue.

- After you contact Sokolov (VM), Snake will call the Major, and the
Major will ask about the sentries. There are 3 answers I have
seen:
- "No one saw me" if no one sees you
- "I got past them" I think this happens if they notice you
- "I had to kill them, there was no other choice" when you kill
some of them.

- Equip the crocodile cap and call Major Zero.

- Call SIGNT with Zombie paint on, he and Paramedic will argue
about the face paint.

- Call Para-Medic while in the Raidenovich Mask and General Camo.
She won't recognize Snake at first, and they have a mildly amusing
conversation. (?*? Might not be true)

- Collect a Spatsa mushroom and call Para-Medic. After the
conversation, eat the Spatsa mushroom (it causes you to fall
asleep). After you wake up, call Para-Medic back.

- Collect a Ural luminescent mushroom. There are plenty around
Svyatogornyi West. Anyway, collect one then call Para-Medic. She
will mention that they should taste good. Eat the mushroom and
Snake will yell out "Dammit Para-Medic! It's poisonous!" Call
Para-Medic back and Snake will get mad at her.

- Capture a coral snake alive, and call Para-Medic. When she is
telling Snake about the coral snake he will start to nod his head
and gradually fall asleep.

- After catching a Tsuchinoko (it's in the area where you fought
The Fear) call Para-Medic. The whole team will congratulate Snake
and tell him not to eat it.

- Collect a Russian Glowcap, and call Para-Medic. Eat the Russian
Glowcap and call Para-Medic again. It's similar to the Pentazimine
conversation between Otacon and Snake on the tanker in MGS2.

- Put on a cardboard box and call SIGNT. BEST CALL EVER!

- Call SIGNT with ANY of the wacky or not normal stuff (AKA boss
camos, GA-KO camo, naked, etc.) You will get humorous responses

- The animal, fly, mummy and banana camos are all from a contest
that Konami made sometime ago. SIGNT won't comment about those.

- Call anybody (particularly SIGNT) after snake's nightmare, and you
will get humorous responses.

- Call your friends on the radio during the Sorrow's "boss fight."
They will all respond as if you were already dead.

- Shoot EVA, and call anybody and they'll give you a hard time.

Kojima confirmed, Ocelot is The Sorrow and The Boss's child

also,
the ending made me cry for 2 days... it was very sad, i grew so attached to all the characters over those 2 non-stop days of playing the game. MGS has been the only game series that has been able to make me cry every installment, but never this bad... i love the MGS games and i hope the 4th does this one justice

i didnt cry but yeah it was emotional, snake was so bad-ass at the end

reluctantly shaking president johnsons hand and then not shaking the cia directors hand(hes the guy who ocelot was talkin to at the end btw),the scene where he salutes the bosses grave,so emotional particurly with the excellent music, best ending ever

anyway i'm really looking forward to mgs4,will snake finally kick ocelots ass?ocelot is now pretty integral to every metal gear game and has built up a real cult following among fans, the scene in the wig where the 2 of them were playing russian roulette :smoking: ,ocelot is cool, bloody annoying in this one though,he just wouldnt leave snake alone but you could see the mutual respect they had beween each other :)

the last fight against the boss was great,i loved the setting in the field full of white daffodils, great artistry there, poor boss, what a hero

I've played through the game twice so far. Once on normal - the other on normal - but I shot every single one of those little green frogs and got the stealth camo - I also killed all the boses non-lethally to get the weapons & held up the End in order to get his camo.

whats the deal with the ends camo?what environments does it work for, just lying in the grass?

A bit offtopic, do you think MGS4 will have you playing as Snake(Big Boss) again or Solid Snake(David)?

its been confirmed as solid snake,i wonder if the camo, cure system and jungle environments will be kept?

it says "nowhere to hide" i'm thinking something more open that jungle or buildings, could be really interesting, it's nice to know we'll be stepping back into the shoes of Solid Snake, though being Big Boss was awesome

It sounds like it could be even more action oriented which imo is sorta sad..

It works when you're in the sun if I remember correctly.

i hope they keep the outdoor environments.they really worked imo,i cant wait to see the what they show at e3 next year,im sure no-one thought mgs2 would be set on a tanker when they showed mgs2 back in 2001,i say konami will concentrate on a physics,a.i and graphics but who knows, metal gears have always been about creating realistic environments, something kojima wanted to do with mgs2 to which he achieved considering the ps2 capabilities

I also hope they keep the outdoor environments, perhaps in a larger scale, what I'd want would be a MGS that has time passing in real time, a -large open ended environment-(That allows you to take major roads around to avoid certain obstacles), physics, I dunno, I don't hope they do it like most games aside from HL2 do today then, i.e. have it as soon as you touch the item it goes flying 20 meters :p
Perhaps it could be used to block doors or create traps tho.:)

imagine playing a metal gear game with maps the size of those in far cry

physics could be good like knocking into chairs etc alerting guards

Although the AI in Metal Gear is pretty much the best there is, I think it's also the most in need of improvement. The actual combat techniques and searching is near perfect, but the system used to dispatch them could use some improvement.

If the game was seamless, ie. there was no 2 second loads between areas, then the AI could truly track you and follow you. A Metal Gear game where you were essentially plopped onto a Far Cry type of island (like the guy above me said) and told to make it from Point A to Point B would be brilliant. Of course there should still be a more structured mission once you reach the structure, but this would be a good way to accomplish it.

so how is each loadin point placed? since it can;t be at doors like in MGS2

Pretty much the same way, there're restricted paths, when you leave one area you get the text and it loads the next.

exactly thats what i meant by the far cry statement, huge outdoor areas with buildings etc to explore also, yeah i agree the a.i is great and its a ps2 game, what do you mean by the 'system used to dispatch them could use some improvement',thats interesting could you explain what you would like?

i dont mind the loadzones to be honest just as each area feels like it has a new challenge to get through

I just think it'd be nice to have something like support troops come in via helicopter or jeep or something, rather than just pour in from the the loading zones. Not a big deal, and can't really be fixed without larger seamless environments, but its just one of those things that kinda hurts the whole "suspension of disbelief."

I also have no problem with the load times. But what I do have a problem with is dividing the jungle into a bunch of tiny sectors rather than a single large one. This is just my opinion about what has room for improvement, but as it is it's probably my favorite game.

I'm pretty convinced that Metal Gear Solid 3 is going to get ported to the PC; however, I hope that this more than just a port. When Substance and Integral got ported to the PC, they kept referring to the console control and the PC controls were awkward. I could just get a gamepad controller, but I'm better with a keyboard.

yeah that sounds good,mgs3 sorta had that with the chopper at the the mountainside, that'd be cool though, snakes out in the forest,is discovered, humvees or jeeps roll in and troops get out...but it would have to be limited imo, snakes not a army

i sorted liked the rather small areas as the game gave that 'ah just 1 more go/area' feeling whereas in games like fc i sometimes felt'oh not another massive lvl',it just felt overwhelming at times but thats just coz i love to explore :)

also does anyone know a decent regurly updated metal gear site with a very active forum like ours?gamefaqs is full of nobs
