Music: Rate and Discuss

It's not out, that's just a preview track. Originally saw it on the band's site when I was looking for a release date. Sorry to get your hopes up. :p

Yeah was surprised to hear him sing the chorus, not a bad vocal if a bit different from the album version. I never knew Michael sang backup on Deadwing, I'll have to give it another listen... then again he's not exactly shy when it comes to guest vocals.

Goddamn Gavin is in excellent form in that vid. Can't wait for this...

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUCCCKKKK YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

You could just listen to Radio One...No Im sorry, I should never suggest someone go through that.

Just reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear reviewing the Focus ST or whichever it was, and the radio wouldn't pick up any channels.

''The radio just gets static. Although....this COULD be Radio One''.

The amount of brit rappers on the charts these days is ridiculous.

But I did get a glimmer of hope;

Its not THAT bad. Usually hate 'drum & bass' or whatever, but I could bear this a few times. Mind you, Pendulum's remix of Voodoo People is pretty damn special.

This album (Listening Tree) was totally overlooked last year, and it's pretty good. Lyrics can be ham-fisted, and the beats are sometimes obtuse, but god damn some of the songs and lyrics are awesome.

[edit] After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that this album is precisely 30% beautiful, 50% meh, 15% crap, and 5% David Bowie.

Heh, yeah. I thought they'd just hired some indian woman in to come in and sing some gibberish. Turns out it's the bassist. :V

2 bands i discovered:

Tri-offensive:

cool japanese jazz metal. posted a 9 year old covering one of their more awesome songs. This album is pretty solid, chock full of odd-time signature drumming crazy guitar riffs etc. etc.

akphaezya

Seemingly Opeth influenced Jazz Metal band. Pretty awesome, especially the female vocalist. She lays down those classic jazzy bluesy vocals on the backdrop of metal riffs, weird sometimes, before moving on to progressive sounding vocals on the choruses. itll prolly not be most of you people's cup of tea though..

if you like that kind of music you should check out Midori-IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND

Altered:Carbon - Geigarr

By the guys who did the fake Oversteps release. Brings about images of late night driving on empty streets. Interestingly, the drums do nothing for me, but I wonder if that's the point--the drums are the ambient bit, and the synths are the stand out part? Works for me.

Squarepusher - A Real Woman

This had me lolling the first time I heard it, and it still makes me smile. But despite the lol factor and cheesiness, it's still a great catchy song, with great drums (oh that snare) and vocoding.

you are real
you exist
you are sane
you're alive
you're impressive
you're important
you're smoking
because you're real

30 Seconds To Mars - Kings and Queens

I cant help but get a wiff of U2 in the guitar. Listen from 2:05 mins in. The Edge would roll in his soon-to-be grave.

Usually hate this band, dont like the lead singer and the rest of their stuff is a bit too emo and screamish, but this song for some reason puts a slight smile on my face and is a bit of a feel good song. And I think the video is pretty awesome. Well, the concept of it anyway.

New Arcade Fire album and single!

The album is called The Suburbs and the single is also called "The Suburbs". A second song was also released, "Month of May". They are both good!

Bought the remastered version of Exile on Main Street, after seeing the documentary Stones in Exile on the BBC yesterday. It is without a doubt my favourite Rolling Stones album. Southern rock made by a couple of Brits in the basement of a French mansion. Too bad heroin claimed Keith shortly after and -even worse- Mick went disco.

So this album by John Frusciante and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is free and it's pretty good. Start at track 2, unless you're going for the album experience.

Neil Halstead - solo stuffs
http://www.nyctaper.com/?p=3182

After being in Slowdive and Mojave3, apparently Neil Halstead is now doing solo stuff. Solo folksy stuff. Nothing to write home about, but it's nice if you want relaxing music, a little bit like Iron and Wine.

I really like this EP. Holy crap. I wasn't really expecting a lot.

"NIN with a chick singer" was what I was expecting, and NIN with a chick singer is what I got.

Not saying that's a bad thing lol

re: new trent reznor, he is such a talented man, it's a real shame that he often goes away from actually being in NIN to just rehashing that signature sound over and over again in his own personal projects on the side.

something actually new would be nice, please. nail hit head with the comment NIN with a chick singer.

Listening to it now. I'm on the second track. It's pretty cool, I actually like it. Very 2010ish.

yeah, it's good. it's just i've heard it all before.

reznor either needs to stop pussyfooting around NIN or do something else, in this guys opinion.

Hey man. I thought we had a whole shit load of NIN fans on here. How did this go under the radar round this here parts?

http://howtodestroyangels.com/

K. So it's not NIN. It's Trent Reznor, Trent Reznor's Wife on vocals, and Atticus Ross. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet but BBB immediately stood out to me. It's like NIN with a female singer man. Get at it.

edit - you know, this is kinda worthy of it's own thread.
