Looks like Nintendo are going all in to try and make the 3DS appealing, while further disregarding early adopters. At a press conference today they announced the 3DS would not only be getting a portable version of 3/Tri (the version seen on Wii, with some tweaks and additions), but would also be the platform of choice for Monster Hunter 4, which is seeing "larger, more open environments and even some platforming."

Oh, and this thing:

-- which is retailing for the equivalent of about $20 US. It requires it's own AAA battery, which may or may not provide a bit of extra battery power to the unit itself. In any case this seems like a stopgap measure until they release a revised version... although it probably won't be "lite" this time if they have to make space for another stick.

They talked about some other games too, but nothing strikes me as particularly interesting (another Animal Crossing, woo). Anyway, Monster Hunter doesn't have a huge audience this side of the pond, but this won't exactly hurt the system's success in Japan if the past is any indication. Personally, this just made it a little more appealing to me... if and when they release a revision, anyway.

the "concept trailer" of mh4 looks interesting if its real stuff that will be in the game, havent played a monster hunter game since the first one so dont know if the other ones have some improvements but the big landscapes looks very cool

I doesn't have that much of a audience in the west because they keep hogging the games in Japan. This surprises me that Capcom announced both titles for the 3DS rather than having one on the Vita. I guess they're trying to finally pin point their target market to one specific console for the next generation of MH games.

But this has just boosted Nintendo's income by the billions.

10th Dec 2011. We'll see an English release most probably one month after. That's to say if there is one.

Yeah, that only just occurred to me: it hasn't actually been confirmed for release outside of Japan. On the one hand, the dual stick addon will most likely make it out since MH isn't the only game adding support and it could become standard, and it'll be more attractive in a bundle. On the other, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is already out for PSP in Japan and Capcom have no plans of bringing it over, so maybe they gave up on us. :(

I'm not that bothered if there is no English release seeing as how I've played MHP3 completely. However there is the TGS tomorrow so I'm pretty sure we'll find out all we need then.

HAHA STUPID BADHAT NEW ZEALAND ASSBUTT MOTHERFOCKER

I almost made a general purpose 3DS thread a few days ago but you did instead and YOU TOTALLY FAILED TO MENTION THE IMPORTANT RELEVANT PARTS OF BEING A 3DS OWNER RIGHT NOW:

1) STAR FOX MOTHERFORKING 64 3D JUST CAME OUT and it is awesome. Do you like Star Fox 64? Yes? Well then you will love this shit, because it's the same game with a major graphics makeover and beautiful 3d effect. Use the classic 64 controls though, the gyroscope controls are retarded in conjunction with the 3d (although I usually play it in 2d). Seriously though, I love OoT 3D and I love Star Fox 64 3D too. Bring on the next wave of N64 remakes, Nintendo! If they make an updated version of Donkey Kong 64 I will literally mail Nintendo Japan with a sample of my sperm in a little vial with a note on it that says simply "THANKS" in return.

2) MOTHERFORKING ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON IS RETURNING... ON 3DS. That's right guys: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/37069/New_Rollercoaster_Tycoon_Confirmed_For_Nintendo_3DS.php
That's right, first Rollercoaster Tycoon game since RCT3, and the very first portable version of the game. Here's hoping it doesn't suck.

I really resent being called a focker. Being associated with those films is the worst possible insult you could have used. :(

No kidding. I can't think of any better example of a decent movie (Meet the Parents) being driven into the ground with endless retarded sequels.

That addon does look like ass, but I am still open to the idea of some kind of physical addon to the 3DS... I really DON'T like the way it sits naturally in my hands, I've noticed particularly while playing Star Fox which takes a lot more fine / precise control than most 3DS games. My grip just isn't the most efficient in terms of finger movement / button access, and my hands get cramped because of this. I've been considering getting one of those chunky rechargeable battery packs just to beef up the system and make it a little more comfortable to grasp.

Surely the clunky addon will be better than this:

I never really did enjoy the new post function. :(

How the shit did they nab MH4? Of course it will probably jump ship in the period before E3 but are they saying exclusive? Sony should cut a deal to keep that on PSV, thats what got the Japs buying

I really like the pirate-y style from parts of these trailers. No clue what the game is about and I don't have a 3DS though.

^ It's about getting killed by giant monsters until you figure out their patterns and then getting killed less by giant monsters but still getting killed by giant monsters. Then you go online and your teammates use up all your lives getting killed by giant monsters. :)

Yeah I'm thinking timed exclusive. Given Monster Hunter has always been a big presence on Sony consoles (in Japan anyway), I doubt there's a pay-off big enough for Capcom to completely disregard their consumer base there. Assuming people are just as big on brand loyalty over there. :v
