Big news dropped yesterday. For all you Pokerstars, FT, and AP players, contact support to get what you can while you still can. Pokerstars.com, fulltiltpoker.com and absolutepoker.com domains have all been seized by the FBI. Sorry guys. We all hate the rake, especially when they take everything like the FBI did today.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reportedly shut down three of the largest online poker sites available to United States residents.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the FBI has charged 11 people -- including the founders of PokerStars.com, AbsolutePoker.com and FullTiltPoker.com -- with bank fraud, money laundering and violating gambling laws. The government is reportedly seeking $3 billion from the accused for the charges filed against them.

Wow. It's too bad they shut them down completely. They could've kept freerolls open.

I don't get it. What suddenly happened that cause them to all be shut down? Was online gambling illegal the whole time? How did these sites last as long as they did?

And yet sites like Swoopo still exist.

I'm confused. Is gambling legal in the US outside of Nevada and etc.?

And these sites probably had ties to organized crime groups.

I was once infected by Spyware/Malware from Pokerstars. Put all these pokerstars icons on my desktop and this woman was talking to me out of nowhere advertising the site. So All I can say is HA!

The FBI announced on Friday that it had charged 11 people, including the founders of three of the largest internet poker companies in the US, with bank fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling offences. The poker sites PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker have been shut down.

Heres the rest of the article.

well I dont know about you but I allways related poker and casino and gambling in general to crime and mafias thanks to movies and such so I avoid all of that
also cuz isnt supposed that the "house allways win"? so I consider gambling giving money away for free

Online gambling isn't illegal federally. It varies from state to state. Most of the offenses charged against the defendants were violations of the UIGEA(Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006) that prevents financial institutions from legally processing online gambling transactions. Basically they made attempts to fool banks into processing transactions by disguising the nature of gambling deposits, and in some cases, actually bribing banks in order to get them to process payments. It's a very messy case.

I keep reading this thread title as "Pornstars, Full Tit Poker, and Absoslut Poker Seized and Shut Down by the FBI"

The gambling industry is so oversaturated with gambling companies...tons of them going out of business all the time. These 3 are some of the biggest, will be interesting to see where that traffic ends up going now.

Gambling is a mugs game anyway, I'll never understand it. I'm sure there is no surprise that some of these companies fiddle their books to hide money, the surprise is they were stupid enough to get caught.

Would be interesting to write a paper on this for my IT related ethics course, if this happened last semester.
