So I've got a free domain name to register... (help wanted)

... and a good amount of bandwidth available, but I have absolutely no idea what I should do with it.

I've asked some of my friends if they could put it to use (raziaar.com, qonfused.com, etc) but I think I'd rather just have a good idea for a site. I don't want to make it like a personal portfolio/blog/bio site or any of that shit, I want a good original idea, like isotown.net was. I was thinking about making a site where I could put and make silly flash movies like half-life: full-life consequences, but that would just be even more work to maintain on top of isotown and other shit in my life.

So I ask you, hl2.net. What's a good idea for a website?

(feel free to make jokes and silly responses, I won't yell at you)

Edit: OK I came up with an idea I like, but I still need all your help, be it moderating or some coding knowledge with a mysql database... See below.

Dude... make raziaar.com It'll be totally cool.

I'm kidding, that would be the most pointless, stupid web address name out there on the internet. It'd be more retarded than ********.net

i would condone just about anything related to how great i am.

If I or hl2.net can't think of anything then I'd seriously just give it away to anyone. Though I'd have some sort of competition to make it fun...

Something for hl2.net would be neat, maybe like a place where you can submit a funny or awesome post made here to the site and people can vote/comment on it.

Though I'd need someone to code that for me.

You'd rather have that than my idea? Sheesh.

A music-creation and music-hardware type forum/site.

I didn't like the idea because it'd just be another forum... And I'd have to advertise it the **** everywhere to build up any kind of user-base, moderate it and shit, might just be too much work for an idea that isn't very original or even prosperous.

Naudian you have an awesome avatar.

lol, I just came up with an idea whilst chatting with Raziaar.

It'll be a forum... Where the goal is to register and get as many posts as you can without getting banned. The catch is, there's a huge set of ridiculous rules that me and other people will write up before-hand, which users cannot see. They can register back as many times as they want to try and try again, slowly learning what the rules are and how to get as many posts as they can. There will be a safe zone where members can work together to discuss rules they've discovered or are theorizing about.

Any thoughts or additions to this idea? I think it would be pretty fun...

Examples of rules:

No making the same post twice.
No using the letters: Q, V, R, D
Post must make grammatical sense.
Post can not talk in the past tense.
Posts can not be made within 20 minutes of eachother.

etc.

I'd need a fairly large team of moderators (who doesn't like moderating?) to help do the spotting and banning.

...... You thought of this talking to me? Was I participating in the conversation or just doing what I normally do while we talk?

I didn't think of it WITH you, but I said the premise to you before going to here to flesh it out.

That sounds pretty awesome. Forum game on a grand scale.

Here's a mockup of what the site front page could look like:

That would be pretty awesome cool.

/EDIT I'd hate to have to resort to re-registering all the frakkin' time though. Could we leave it at postcount resets?

I suppose so, yeah.

me and viper are chatting away about this on msn atm.

This idea is going to be awesome, mark my words.

You would constantly need a mod online who read every post that was made. That would be a pain in the ass.

I like your idea Vegeta, perhaps a parser that looks for rule violations in each post would be easier than a mod team?

I'd go with your idea but if it doesn't work out I did have a couple of idea's
- Instead of a website could you possible turn the bandwidth into a game server, like another HL2.net TF2 server or whatever game you fancy.
- A mirror for mods, maps and other files you like, not very exciting but at least it would be something.

Yes there will be several rules that will be able to be auto-enforced by things such as spell checkers and other filters.

As for those other ideas I don't exactly have THAT much bandwidth. Besides, I'd rather have a neat original idea for a website that something like that, as I said. As much as it would be a good service. Thanks for the ideas though.

Viper and I worked out a ton of kinks and we have a pretty refined system planned out. The next step is to find a coder.

That's a great idea Vegeta and Raz. I've certainly never seen a site do that before, so it's would certainly be original.

You would probably need some sort of goal/reward for people to work towards reaching. Maybe start off with laxed rules at first and make them more strict as the users progress.

The amount of harshness of rules will depend on how well the users are doing as we observe the top scores and number of bans per unit time, shit like that.

Of course, the whole point is to climb to the top. To get your score on the top. Viper and I decided to have a feature where you can "save and reset" your score to the scoreboard. You see, if you were say on the top of the board with 100 posts, and then you got banned, you'd fall off the board. But to encourage users to keep posting as opposed to leaving their score up and getting bored, they have the option to save that score on the board at the cost of losing all their posts. They must then beat that score before they can move their name up on the list again from where it previously was saved.

The fact that users should work together to figure out the list of rules is sort of a good team-challenge. We're thinking about throwing out the list and bringing in a new one everytime it's mostly figured out and users are doing too well, which we would like to happen every 2 or 3 months.

Wait, didn't Garry already think of this?

Annnnnyway...

I'll suck your dick to be a mod.

I plan to have Project Wonderful ads on the site as I do with Isotown. Depending on how popular this gets and how much bandwidth this uses, I might even ask for donations. (which worked very well for me at Isotown)

By the way, if ANYONE is interested in helping out, particularly with moderating, I trust most of you and you are welcome to be on the team.

I'd definitely be interested in helping out. I've been awfully bored lately.

Great idea (though a website dedicated to me directly would have kicked as much ass).

Hahah, awesome idea.
