After much research throughout the past month or so, doing homework on the Mini Cooper S, BMW 3-series and the Audi TT, I've finally come to a reliable conclusion that the Crossfire is what I want. And it wasn't easy. Something small, inexpensive, sporty and luxurious at the same time, and damn sexy. More than likely something I'll pick up in the next month. I'm looking at a few 2005 Limited Coupes in my area.

What are you thoughts?

And no, this thread is not here for you to say: "Wtf, why are you getting a Crossfire? Get a "Insert car name here" instead!"

My work colleague had one for a long time but he sold it recently for a BMW Z4 which he detests. I'll ask him why got rid of it. I think the car looks pretty good.

Personally, like I said before with you, the Crossfire looks like a damn nice cars, handles awesomely, and is reasonable on the wallet for what you were wanting to get. It's got some aesthetics that I don't like, but for the most part, it's rather nice. If I were you, I'd try to find a video of someone on an AutoX track or something similar, so you can see for yourself if the back end swings out too much for you, or if you need to under/oversteer too much to your liking.

*edit* this will do. LOOKS AWESOME.

Only one thing wrong with it.... its American!! (sorry i dislike all the American cars ive ever driven of US roads. they've all been dire. :P)

Apart from what's German, which is actually most of what's under the metal. :p

Watch the video review.

How the hell did it end up being a Chrysler?

Well it's essentially a Mercedes with a small shell, and I couldn't deny the attractive price tag it was wearing. Besides, what've you got against a Chrysler?:stare:

It looks like an unholy bastard son of a Porsche, BMW and a Chrysler.

looks more like a hybrid between a Mercedes C class convertible and a Mercedes McLaren SLR.

That's my point, how the hell is it a chrysler with all that stuff and not a Mercedes.

Have fun when the car falls apart, parts aren't cheap for them since they aren't even in production anymore...

I know the hosts on top gear are biased against american cars lol, but i trust their opinions. They gave it a bad review and I don't blame them. Price is around 40-50g's. Uhh, yea you must be an idiot to spend that much money on a crossfire. You can get plenty of better cars for that price. Like say, a lot of bmw's, mercedes, audi's, and let's not forget the japanese cars, like the subaru wrx sti, mitsubishi evo, nissan 350Z (although not that great of a car, looks sexy as hell though), mazda rx8 etc..the list goes on.

Seriously for that price you can get a much better looking, better performing and long lasting car other than a crossfire.

Looks a bit stocky and unpleasant.

I'M CALLING YOUR CAR FAT.

Uhhh, inexpensive? Not really! There's plenty better bang for your buck for less money...

joule, you can't expect to come in here and ask about our thoughts on you getting a crossfire without posting our own suggestions of what we think would be a better deal

Get a Cooper S, there's actually a little bit of utility with that car ... back seats that can actually fit people (albeit not very large ones, and not for long rides) and a little bit of trunk (sorry, BOOT) space (more if you fold the seats down). Plus, even if you add the entire set of John Cooper Works stuff, it'll still be about $5k less than a crossfire. New, that is.

Umm, there's no way I'll be putting that much down on a Crossfire. Hahaha, you must be kidding yourself. There are many out there less than $20K...

The biggest issue will be trim as it is unique to the vehicle. Fortunately, the inherent quality of those bits is high and I've never seen a better paint job. The good part is that the major mechanical parts of the Crossfire can be found amongst many past, current, and future Mercedes models.

These things are strangely popular in Kuwait. I'd rather have a BMW or Infiniti for the same price, but if you find a used one for cheap then you can do worse.

Yeah if you ask me I'd rather have the last-gen Mercedes SLK on which it's based.

I like the top and side but the front looks weird. Still over all a nice looking car.

Just get an RX8, then we can go to the Rotary meets together...

:p

Ha, I was looking into that earlier today and last night. Nice little car. Fifth Gear covered an interesting review on it. Shame for its shitty gas mileage.

nissan 350Z's are good, and good looking cars.

You can get one for anywhere from 25-40 grand

The issue I have is I don't think it's good looking, and it's way too expensive for my taste :(

And the Z gets barely better mpg than the 8.

For fun, some other pics of an 8.

Whoops, wrong one.

Skipping all posts just to say Top gear found it to be horrible, and only British people and Americans with pseudo-taste like the style. I for one think it's ugly, like all current Chryslers, as well as underpowered.

Then again my opinion is about 1-2 years old, so what do I know.

Those tags are not mine.

I don't think it's pretty, but it's not as bad as other cars I've seen *Points at new Eclipse*

BMW Z4 beats it by a pretty wide margin. I'm actually a fan of BMW's current design direction, and even I can't get myself to like the Z4. Especially since it succeeds the awesomeness that was the Z3.

Hell, I'd even love to be the proud owner of a Z4. However, it's a bit out of my price bracket.

I think you misunderstood me...I was replying to phantomdesign. I said that the Z4 beats the Crossfire for "ugliest roadster you can buy".

If you're looking for a great purchase that's relatively inexpensive, here are two mid-engine roadsters I'd recommend.

1997 Porsche Boxster for around $11k (not much power but still "fast", usually kept in great condition, and rather attractive I think)
2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder around $10k (I have a 2000, and it's awesome)

I think I've also seen older BMW Z4s for around $15k (not my favorite, but better than a Miata or Z3). You might also consider a 350z (not a roadster, but close enough), or an Eclipse Spyder (make sure you know which model you're getting) . . . for under $10k, you can get a used one with major performance upgrades. I've even seen some killer deals under 4k. You could also go RX8 or Cellica if you like those styles.

(All $ in US Dollars)

Ooh, I agree! The Z4 is HIDEOUS.

Personally, if I were in the market for another coupe, I'd go with a Lexus SC430.
