The Walking Dead Season 2

God damnit, I forgot this show was on Sunday nights so I opened the spoiler thinking it was for the last episode.
 
Ok, I actually really liked this episode...

even after looking at the spoiler I was still surprised. It didn't occur to me that she'd be in there until I heard the growling after the others were dead. I was expecting Dale to come across her on the way back or something.

Even beyond that though, the episode was pretty good. There's finally some interesting stuff going on between characters. I'm actually interested in seeing where the group goes from here in regards to their welcome at the barn.
 
What I have to ask is...
How were there pretty fresh sardines in that house... yet Sophia was obviously a zombie already. Otis would have been the one who dragged Sophia into the barn since no-one else did it.

And how the **** is it that Zombie clothes can get so filthy and ragged so quickly? I can understand zombies that have been plowing through water and mud and shit... but ones that have just been walking and standing for a long time?
 
This was a great episode.

The tragic punchline would be Sophia in the barn all along. This is of course Shane's unforeseen mistake in killing Otis. If Otis was still alive and have been informed about Sophia missing, I think he would remember catching a little girl in the swamp. Shane isn't completely a bad person, but I believe him and Andrea should leave the group at this point. For one, Andrea won't listen to Dale either way about Shane. Then two, it's obvious that if Shane remains around Lori or Carl, he'll just keep becoming more unstable in the group. About keeping the walkers in the barn, I saw no problem with this. It was like when Daryl was explaining to Andrea that it be a waste of an arrow once he killed that hanging zombie from the tree. Does it matter if they're dead? I think not. There could have been more effective ways in keeping the barn secured as well. So Rick respecting Hershel's choice to keep zombies in the barn was the one most logical if they wanted to still be on Hershel's land. It's funny how we hardly hear from T-Dog, I'm sure he could potentially be another character to admire since he isn't always melodramatic around others. Also Glenn was definitely right in his speech about secrets getting other people killed.
 
I kinda got the feeling it was seeing Rick and Hershel escorting those two walkers to the barn that put Shane over the edge. And rightly so. I agree that the ones in the barn weren't that big of a deal. But seems quite silly to go and seek out walkers to bring back to the barn.

And I think I got some new respect for Shane, telling everyone the way it is. Also, what's with the creepy sexual tension between Daryl and Sophia's mom? Seemed rather strange.

Just when it starts to get good, they're going to break the season. No more episodes til Feb.

Yeah what the hell indeed? He had like three or four lines ever since the group left the highway. The writers could have at least given him a little subplot on the farm.

Nah, that made total sense to me. It has been building up for a couple of episodes now, ever since he brought her one of those Mother's Tears flowers.

pretty good episode overall. sucks that it doesnt return till feb. the only thing that's nagging me a little is
why the hell is Dale staying silent about Shane nearly shooting Rick? Dale cant exactly keep a secret so it's odd that he wouldnt tell rick what he witnessesd even though it's a real threat to the group as a whole
 
Episode wasn't that bad really.

Apart from the usual yawntastic group interaction... aside from Shane being the only smart one there, funny since he should've been killed at the beginning of the season.
Also, haha, I can't wait to see how Carol truly handles seeing her kid zombified and then blown away.
I hope she offs herself.

And it looks like they're finally going to be moving the **** on from the farm, I mean, I'm glad they went there but I only expected it to last about 3 eps tops.

Also I think it's pretty funny that everyone wants the mom to off herself :laugh: I do too :D
 
I'm glad too the little girl is dead, enough with that search. Good twist ending though. I'm not quite sure why the show expected us to care about Sophia in the first place. Because she's a little girl? Not really enough in a world like that, with 95+% of the population dead. And I can't say I remember a single notable thing about her. I just knew she was sort of there, the other, less annoying kid. Not really enough to build a 5-6 episode story arch around.

I wonder how it continues, but I can't really think of a believable reason to leave the farm as they no doubt will. Would desperate people really comply with the wishes of a clearly delusional, irrational, old, unarmed man? Real refugees would make sure they could stay where it's safe, if necessary by force. Especially because the refugees in this case have the upper hand. What stops them from replying "nope" to the demand that they leave? Unless the safety of the farm is compromised somehow, I just can't see it as ending up credible. But then again, the people in this show make the worst decisions.
 
I liked that episode, things were starting to slow down big time but this episode has been a bit of a kick start where different story lines are concerned. It's too bad that'll drop off now until Feb.

and that, motherf*ckers, is how you make a goddamn zombie show.

unlike all the problems ive had with almost every other boring episode of this season so far, this episode took the cake. it successfully salvaged the scraps of plotlines and simpleton character tensions and pulled them all together in a rather fantastic mid-season-finale. the arguments and interactions werent terrible as usual but instead relatable, interesting and dramatic. the main tension of the two leader characters caused a huge dynamic clash within the group, the episode overall had an overarching theme, and the issues they feud over are actually a rather gray area, blurring the line between right and wrong and making a hell of an interesting climax. somehow the actors pulled themselves together for performances ranging from decent (glenn) to actually good (dale and shane). except for ricks wife, who is consistently so ****ing bad i want to puke. but look at that, an actually important twist finale that has some semblance of meaning, and also ties up the loose ends nicely. writing, zombie effects, tension, and drama... all in one episode? i sometimes felt like i was no longer watching The Walking Dead

im not admitting defeat; the show is still extremely lacking. in all honesty this should have been something like the third episode in. "filler" is probably the best way to describe all of the problems with the last few episodes, actually. when you have filler episodes, you concentrate more on individual characters, dialogue, acting, and stuff like that. you know, things suck about this show.

but god damn. good job TWD you did it.

its funny to think how actual refugees would act in that situation. no matter who they were-- they would take the farm by force if they had to. like pvtryan said, are they really going to listen to an unarmed delusional old man? but this is the sort of thing that i can ignore for the promise of an interesting result, which actually happened. wow
 
so you liked it because of the last 2 minutes of the episode? other than that it was exactly how every other episode played out; drama, drama, brief killing of zombies, drama

I for one hope they dont throw in a hook every week to placate the nay sayers
 
er no. the entire episode was much, much better. almost everything was more interesting because it implied a tone of finality and breaking point for all these character tensions they have been droning on for far too long. the rick/hershell convo, shavedhead/daryl, especially the shane/dale standoff. even glenn and farmer bitch (although that Portal namedrop made no goddamn sense). when you add the tone of finality, as in: shane is obviously going to do something THIS episode then these interactions actually matter and the drama and tension actually has promise to lead somewhere. and then, it did lead somewhere rather profound and effectively emotional in the last 2 minutes. obviously the conclusion will have a lot to do with the overall success of the episode, not exactly sure what sort of point you were trying to make if any.

but its cool, maybe you should post another unrelated GIF, babble on about millions of viewers, or mention how this show "isnt about zombies." you know, some annoying stern shit, cuz thats always fun.
 
the episode didnt take that turn till Rick returned with the zombies on a leash. before that it was the typical drama we've seen in other episodes

i do it too.

i enjoy discussion about stuff like entertainment because it interests me to see other peoples viewpoints. the thing about you is, you used to be a lot better at it. we have both posted on this forum for many years, and in that time we have had a lot of good debates, or at least i remember some. but more recently you seem more interested in taking caustic approaches to debate yourself, intentionally trying to mock people or create arguments from places that they dont exist. and when they respond by calling you an asshole, you mock them further by pretending to be the Internet Chill Dude, and casually state how the other person is overreacting. like a 13 year old.

its fine, you can do this forever, i find it entertaining in another sort of way. but im going to continue responding to your posts just as you do mine, because its a forum, and thats what you do. for..um.. ize......
 
Based on that promo for the next episode(or whatever, I don't know if that's all from one episode) Escaep, I can guarantee that...

Dale tells what's her face Rick's wife about Shane pointing a gun at Rick. When she is talking to dale and asks, "Now what are you saying?", that's when they are having the conversation.
 
I'd really just want Shane to die... It feels so wrong having him walking around breathing. It feels wrong how much Andrea is shunning Dale. But I guess that's why the TV can still be watched by those who read the comics.

Ending to the episode was nice, glad to see that Rick no longer screws around.

How the hell does a moaning, brain-dead walker sneak up to someone in an open field? I was also surprised at how he tore open the body - surely if the walkers were super strong, the countless situations were the characters wrestled with them wouldn't have been possible?
 
show is just... urgh, ****. this show's awful decisions and lack of plausible, logical or sense of direction is beyond a joke right now.

or those ninja zombies that appeared at the end of the last episode, from the treeline - the very same treeline that darrel, glenn, rick and shane had been combing through for about ten minutes and not coming across a single walker, save for the hostage.

but that wasn't even the funniest part; what was more hilarious was the place shane decided he wanted to execute rick at was a mere hundred yards away from the house they just spent the last quarter of the episode walking away from. of course, they had to give carl arriving on the scene some plausibility... that is until you remember they also spent said last quarter boarding up the house and tightening security, how the **** did he just walk away unnoticed? oh wait, i know why - it's because no matter how much rick, lori or shane say they care about carl, they don't give two shits about the fact he spends half the show adventuring around on his own re: last episode with the walker in the swamp. shane, were the dark woods not good enough for you to blow rick's brains out?

and of course, he's a crack shot now. i mean yesterday he couldn't kill a walker point blank from less than a metre away, in marshland no less, but i suppose a day is long enough to suddenly become a crack shot at night time, thus managing to blow shane's brains out across a darkened field. and yeah, if i was looking to save my father from a zombie i, too, would rather risk my potentially bad accuracy on firing over his shoulder over telling him to duck out the way from the noisy, shambling, grunting zombie behind him.

this show is a ****ing mess and it's not even about the deviations from the comic anymore, it's about bad writing plain and simple. the pacing, exposition of characters and... non-exposition of background characters (who the **** are some of those people at the house? what is the point of t-dog anymore? carol seems to be writing her way OUT of the show...) ... it's laughable, it really is

If it really makes you THAT mad, then just stop watching it? Seems like you're torturing yourself with how mad you're getting at the show, yet you continue to keep coming back.
 
So now all dead people become zombies? I have a question on that subject. I understand that accurate biology is not a hallmark of this series (like how zombies can get energy to their muscles without a blood flow (if the heart is destroyed for instance)), but the key to zombie survival lies in an intact brain. Under that premiss, surely people who have been dead for weeks or more (like one of the newly arisen zombies in the wood at the end of the last episode), will have a brain in such a bad shape that it wouldn't function? I mean, having your brain rotting for a month will surely be as damaging to its function as a bullet through it, right?

Anyway, it's a shame that Shane is gone. He was the only really good actor on the show, and the only one who didn't annoy me. Rick has potential to be an interesting character, especially if they pull a Walter White-esque storyline about moral downfall. (Which they have a lot of opportunity to do.) But as it is now Rick has too many weak moments. I'm glad the useless old fart Dale is gone, who was probably the worst actor on the show (his only expression throughout the show was one of complete surprise and shock). They shot him through the head, so thankfully his equally boring zombie-self won't come back to bother us.

Concerning the blatant gender stereotypes on the show (women wash and cook, men fight), it's hard to blame the male characters, as the women are more or less zombies already, but with better skin. It's thus no surprise that the men feel obligated to take on the millennia-old custom of being the ones with weapon in hand. That Lori herself discouraged Andrea to take on a protecting role (and "leave that to the men"), was enough to make me sick. What would Rick see in such a disgusting character?
 
I still love this show. Random occurrences happen in life and in death. Some zombies may walk faster than others because maybe the person was in shape more or is thinner than others, or hungers more than other zombies. It makes sense to me.

why should i ''stop trying''? if i am a paying customer of a product, i have the right to be critical. in fact, i don't even need to pay for it - as soon as it becomes public domain i have the right to my opinions, and it really ****ing bothers me that you're so lazy with your response that you're having to resort to the stern argument of 'lol u mad at something u hate why watch it' - would you rather i didn't watch it and yet still remain negative, you then knowing full well that i was basically the equivalent of a internet troll? no, i'm giving the show my time because a) i'm a massive fan of the comic, it's a big part of my growing up in comics, why wouldn't i take an interest in something that shares the same universe? and b) i have every right to endure it because, you know, it might be good. turns out it isn't, but if you don't try, well... whats the point in subjecting yourself to anything? i'm not a cultural hermit and every monday morning i have an hour to spare where i'll sit down to watch some television. it's a simple as that.

but either way, am i not allowed to be critical? should i not challenge a creative culture just because it's all too easy to switch off, bend over and let peoples unimaginative, awful and misused talents (the writers being my biggest gripe and where the majority of my anger and frustration is placed) do me over? no, sir - no i will not. you might be alright with that but tell me, do you feel similarly about video games, or films, or music? are you completely okay with these big corporations taking your money if, at the end of the day, you're entertained for an hour? you're basically saying you don't mind being a dog with a bone (and i don't mean the dog part intentionally because of your username, but it's going to work in my favour for this analogy), never wanting anything more.

me, i like to be engaged. at it's very basic level i like to be told stories, and that's the sole reason i watch television shows or watch films, much like why i pick up books or enjoy reading comics. but when the stories don't make sense; when they are oddly paced, when they are full of plot holes, bad characters, awful writing, terrible decisions that don't make any sense... well, it's then that i start to get a little annoyed. are you honestly telling me you don't feel the same about things? just because any logical sense went out the window a long time ago doesn't mean that it's okay to just be lead by the nose and accept that as the norm from here on out. i'll be just as critical of the show then as much as i am now, it changes nothing in this argument.

''it's just a video game thats why it's okay to use the same environments or plot device for the next installment'' for the next modern warfare game? ''it's just a film thats why i dont mind big robots and explosions'' for transformers 8? it's that lack of hope, that defeatist attitude that is making the telvision, film and even the gaming industry stuck in a creative quagmire.

This really got me. Isn't that what they do anyways? How many Call of Duty games take place in either a) Nazi Germany or b) the middle east. You're saving the world from terrorists in every one too. Also Transformers 2 and 3 sucked and I already stopped trying with that.

And as for the "I want what I pay for" thing: It doesn't have to be 100% perfect for you to get your money's worth. What about all the others shows on AMC? They play some good movies sometimes too. I pay like 5 bucks a month for the channel (it comes packaged with others) and even if they play ONE good movie per month, it's still cheaper than renting it, no?

You are really mad about this, and honestly this will be my last reply to you on the matter. It's a god damn TV show. If you are a huge fan of the comic then good! Read the comic! TV and comics aren't the same thing. The director/writers have a right to their own interpretation in their artistic medium (being television). They could easily just say "the show is loosely based on the comic" and there you go, all your gripes go out the window.

You don't need to get so damn hostile about it, **** sakes man.

the points i am trying to make - and i don't have to look far on the internet to find similar discomforts and rumblings on the point - is that the show itself is very badly written, and whilst that is objective, i would absolutely love a similarly critical response or answer to my above points on things like ninja zombies or shane and rick walking for 10 minutes only for his ''execution spot'' to be basically on the front lawn of the house for the world to see, or carl's sudden amazing accuracy and bizarre reasoning behind firing over his fathers shoulder to kill the noisy zombie that was sneaking up on rick. did none of these things really not register as a bit odd to you? i mean, it is very easy to shrug them off and say ''it's just fiction!!'' but that is lazy defending of a lazy idea. are you really going to just accept that there are people writing things so ridiculously bullshit out there and getting paid to broadcast it to millions of people? because that doesn't sit right with me. this might all be coming off as some media-activist nonsense but i gotta talk out because otherwise i'm just going to sit here and stifle, and this is a forum afterall.

Ninja Zombies - Near the end when Shane Zombie was walking towards Rick, he didn't hear anything. I think what's happening is the zombies actually are naturally quiet up to quite few meters away, when it would be hard to hear them for anyone. But remember that they can basically run too. So they slowly walk up on a person up to 10 meters away lets say, then they bolt towards the person?

Rick and Shane walking to his execution spot close to the house - I honestly got that through the last few scenes of them walking they had already turned around and were heading home. Am I the only one who thought so? It really seemed to me they were walking home and then Shane started this because he was scared Rick was going to tell everyone and he couldn't have done anything with 10+ people in the same room. So he was going to kill Rick and run off. He knew around where the other hideout was, the prisoner told him.

Carl firing over his dads shoulder without saying anything - First off, I'm going to say I thought this was kind of dumb too. But as for an explanation maybe he was just trying to prove to his dad that he can handle himself, so that's why he killed the zombie. He didn't say anything because maybe he was in shock or too scared or maybe he was concentrating on the shot? Then for the shot itself - I dunno, maybe he is a good aim when he concentrates or maybe it was just a lucky shot?

i know when someone is walking up behind me and that could something that happens tomorrow when i go into my local store to get some milk and a dude is standing behind me in the que. i think that when the zombie apocalypse comes i'd like to think i'll start being aware of people coming up behind me from a mile away, let alone 10 meters away. crunchy grass, grunting zombie. no excuse.

though i was actually talking more about dale and the zombie in the previous episode.

err, no, dude, i think the whole arc involving shane and rick might be lost on you. shane had every intention of separating rick from anyone else, it's the whole reason why he helped the kid escape and then killed him in cold blood. he even says the thing between him and rick was never going to work out, contrary to rick's disbelief that he figured they had solved their dispute. he has no intention of running away from the camp because he has no intention of leaving carl or lori - he loves them; he is angry at rick for returning and ''ruining things'', ignorant to the fact there was never anything to ruin between him and lori for she does not feel the same way about him. he is, to put it simply, madly in love with emphasis on the mad. he wants rick gone, and letting the kid to believe he was really going to switch sides was just a story. after all he goes through to make it quite aware that he has strong feelings for lori and carl's safety did you really think he was just going to buck and switch sides? he already decided against it once in this season.

furthermore, shane states that the execution spot was as good as any when questioned by rick on what was about to happen.. shane lead him there, rick is aware of this. he gives shane a good, long, hard stare of sadness even as they're walking through the trees towards the spot. it's like walking up the hangman's noose.

maybe, sure, but doesn't that seem like a helluva rash decision to make when you're inexperienced with a firearm i.e. pretty goddamn ridiculous writing? like i said earlier, in the shows timeline it was only yesterday that he couldn't shoot a walker that was stuck in quagmire.[/quote]
